The name "Turzo" is derived from the band God Lives Underwater co-founder Jeff Turzo whose music served as inspiration for the film.
The film is heavily inspired by the "New French Extremity" movement. Alexandra West's book Films of the New French Extremity" and was frequently referenced during the writing process.
The baseball bat "The Peacemaker" was also featured in the film The Beast of Walton St. and is a reproduction of the bat from Stephen King's Silver Bullet.
Android Rachel was achieved via practical effects.
The film was originally partially inspired by an image created by the popular artist Zombie Suicide Club.
