John Cena has zoomed into his latest action franchise and is slated to star in Apple Original Film “Matchbox,” the latest feature adaptation of an iconic Mattel toy brand.
Sam Hargrave is set to direct the live-action feature film with Skydance co-producing alongside Mattel.
David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper are penning the script.
Read the studio’s official synopsis, below:
“Matchbox” will be inspired by Mattel’s iconic real-world die-cast toy vehicle line of the same name. The legendary Matchbox brand was invented in 1953 by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell to solve a challenge for his daughter, who was allowed to take a toy to school only if it was small enough to fit in a matchbox. When his daughter’s school friends too began clamouring for a “matchbox car,” an iconic brand was born. The high standards of authenticity for Matchbox die-cast cars have driven the brand for over 70 years and generations of fans.

When casting a love interest for Alex Levy on “The Morning Show,” it was Jennifer Aniston who recommended Jon Hamm for the part of tech billionaire boyfriend Paul Marks.
Fans of the Apple TV+ drama (and/or basic privacy laws) know how well that worked out for the two characters at the end of Season 3, but Hamm may still reprise the role. Speaking with IndieWire, the Emmy-winning “Mad Men” actor — who is nominated twice this year for “The Morning Show” and “Fargo” — confirmed that. He voiced his interest in leading a feature rom-com with Aniston, a fellow nominee.
“I have no idea what it would look like,” Hamm said. “I think it would just have to be funny and fun and it would let us do what we both do very well, which is be charming and funny and compelling. I certainly wouldn’t say no to that.”

According to Deadline, Apple has just acquired a new sci-fi after arising as the victor in a bidding war. The new sci-fi film in question is The Corsair Code, which will be adapted by Jonathan Topper from his own short story. Chris Hemsworth has also been attached as the star of the film. Topper had brought the project to Hemsworth and his producing partner Ben Grayson. Both Hemsworth and Grayson will be producing the film through their company, Wild State, while Apple is the studio that backs it.
The plot is currently being kept under wraps. However, it is being described as “a high-octane, sci-fi mystery adventure.” Topper is no stranger to TV as he already has collaborated with Apple on the series Your Friends and Neighbors as the creator and showrunner. That show is currently in production with Jon Hamm starring in the series and also taking on executive producing duties.

Jon Hamm is not simply back in the conversation, he’s a double Emmy nominee.
Earlier today, the TV Academy recognized his work in both Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, where he did a season-long arc as the Elon Musk-esque tech billionaire Paul Marks, and FX’s Fargo, where he played the villainous Sheriff Roy Tillman, a Maga Marlboro Man.
This is hardly the first time Hamm’s name has been rattled off on Emmy nominees morning, of course. Prior to this morning, he’d been nominated 16 times — a mix of accolades for Mad Men, 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt — and earned his first win for the final season of Mad Men in 2015. Still, he notes, it hits differently in today’s Peak TV landscape.

Lucasfilm has thrown a lot of Star Wars ideas at the wall in recent years and, on the big screen at least, most haven't become a reality. Still, the mystery project being helmed by Deadpool & Wolverine and Stranger Things director Shawn Levy just took a big step forward.
According to The Insneider (via SFFGazette.com), the filmmaker has enlisted long-time collaborator Jonathan Tropper to pen the script for his first foray into the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
This isn't a huge shock in some respects as they've been working together for at least the past decade; previous projects include This Is Where I Leave You, Kodachrome (produced by Levy and written by Tropper) and, perhaps most famously, Netflix's The Adam Project.
Tropper also has a long list of television credits to his name, including Banshee Warrior, Your Friends and Neighbors, and Jason Momoa's See (for which the writer...

Tropper has a long history with Levy, having written his Netflix movie, The Adam Project, which starred Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds. He also wrote the Levy directed Warner Bros 2014 dramedy This Is Where I Leave You and the 2017 Netflix dramedy Kodachrome, which Levy produced under his 21 Laps banner.

In January of 2022, Jon Hamm starred in a commercial titled “Everyone But Jon Hamm.” The minute-long spot, for Apple TV+, played off the idea that everyone in the industry seemed to have a television show but him.
When the concept was first pitched, Hamm hesitated. “I was like, ‘There’s a version of this that could go terribly wrong — just thirsty and weird,’ ” he says. But he knew the director and trusted that he’d strike the right tone. So, they moved forward: Hamm, on the couch, scrolling through a carousel of familiar faces with projects on the platform. “Samuel L. Jackson, Billie Eilish, Tom Holland, Chris Evans. What about Jon Hamm?” he says, to the camera. “Jen and Reese, no Jon? Feels like a missed opportunity.”
Now, two and a half years later, he jokes, “I can’t stop working for Apple.” He even did a season of The Morning Show,...
