This is the first puppet movie in the Scooby-Doo franchise. This is also the first DTV film to have the gang as kids, being based on their A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (1988) incarnations, which would seem a natural fit.
The character designs and comedic elements of the special are based on A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (1988).
Three songs from previous direct-to-video films are used, namely "Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo (2009)," "Scooby-Doo! Camp Scare (2010)," and "Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur (2011)."
This movie marks the first and only time Stephanie D'Abruzzo voices Velma; a role that presumably could've also gone to the then current Velma, Mindy Cohn.
