Great film
Roberto_Dallangelo8 December 2023
Unprecedented photographic and cinematic images, including color footage, unpublished documents, interviews with Italian, German, American, and English witnesses, 3D graphic reconstructions, and new footage from event locations, will bring forth a compelling film. Not only a high-quality production to recall the events along the German Gustav Line from Gaeta to Ortona, but also to unearth uncomfortable truths, highlighting the historical heritage in the Lazio, Abruzzo, Molise, and Campania regions linked to World War II. Through intensive research, the film reveals the truth about the destruction of the Abbey and the horrifying battle for its conquest. Involving soldiers from 27 different nations, the conflict resulted in one of the worst massacres of WWII, lasting for four months until the Polish contingent seized the abandoned abbey. The film questions the necessity of conquering Montecassino, the role of the Anzio landing, and why the Allies didn't immediately target Rome. A gripping narrative, based on new documents, unveils the tragic fate of the Abbey and tens of thousands of men-a shocking yet dramatically real truth.
