In the scene where Morse is in Mr. Quinbury's office, checking the inventory ledger, just below the entry for "Le Minou Noir stockings" there is an entry that reads, "Matuschek cigarette boxes." In "The Shop Around The Corner," store owner, Mr. Matuschek (Frank Morgan), insists on buying two dozen cigarette boxes which play the song "Ochi Chernye," against the advice of his sales manager, Alfred Kralik (James Stewart). To Catch a Thief (1955)
The first kisses between Morse and Monica Hicks are intercut with a November 5th firework display, just like the famous fireworks montage accompanying the kisses between Cary Grant and Grace Kelly in the Hitchcock film.Alfie (1966)
When Mr. Lisk first appears, looking at himself in a mirror of a shop, he quotes Michael Caine's character.Lacombe, Lucien (1974)
The story Luisa tells about her partisan group being betrayed by a local boy, "a good little Fascist" who was hanged after the war, echoes the plot of Louis Malle's film, although that is set in wartime France, not Italy.
