One of the most intriguing genres in the world of video games is the one where you get unique endings to conclude the game depending on the choices you make during the play-through. The Quarry is one such game, which has been made available on Xbox Game Pass recently, and offers up to 186 endings varying through the choices the player makes while playing the title.

"Blemish, you don't even like music!" "Who ever said that?" Time for something a bit funky and tons of fun. The Quarry is an 11-minute animated short film comedy made by the illustrator / animation filmmaker Graham Mason based in NYC. it was originally created for Adult Swim Smalls, their short films spin-off featuring all kinds of wacky, weird creations. The Quarry is described as a "soap opera about rocks" though it's much more of a sitcom about rocks working at a quarry. One of them tries to ask out his co-worker on a date, and things don't go as planned. Featuring the voices of Brad Howe, Matthew Maher, Grace Rex, and Peter Smith. It likely won't be turned into a primetime sitcom anytime soon, but it's a fun escape into the wacky world of rocks trying to, uh, have a solid life. I laughed the most at the rock keyboard at the start.

HBO cinematographer Pepe Avila Del Pino, who has worked on Quarry, The Deuce, and now House of the Dragon, is looking to claim an award for cinematography for his work on episodes 2, 3, and 10, the Season 1 finale. Below, Del Pino discusses the obstacles he and the production team overcame to film the finale and the second and third episodes. He also delves into those creative solutions and how he utilized practical effects to shoot scenes in the volume. I saw in one of your interviews that you’re surprised at how much attention you were getting on House of the Dragon, and yet you have...

Last year, Asheville, North Carolina’s Wednesday put out a collection of cover songs called Mowing the Leaves Instead of Piling ‘em Up. Not only was it the best lawn-care referencing release by a North Carolina band since Superchunk’s classic 1992 single “Mower,” it also served as a killer distillation of Wednesday’s own unique strain of downhome indie-rock. The tracklist had Nineties shoegaze (Medicine), new shoegaze (Hotline TNT), tragic sad-guy legends (Vic Chesnutt, Chris Bell), a punk-guitar hero (Greg Sage), touchy-feely alt-rock (Smashing Pumpkins), alcoholic alt-country (“Drive-By Truckers’ “Women...

Director Zack Snyder ("Watchmen") has put his developing Stone Quarry feature film project "The Fountainhead", adapting author Ayn Rand's 1943 novel, on hold, because its too 'politically charged' to be produced at this time:
"To me, it’s like, if you’re a filmmaker, you sort of understand if you’re looking at it from that lens", said Snyder.
"...building a building and making a movie are very similar. You’re making little compromises constantly. Maybe one story less, and it’ll be very good. Does it really need all those fancy window frames? Maybe just make the windows. You wanted a mansion, and you end up with something that sort of looks like a house. For me, that’s always what 'The Fountainhead' was about.
"For a lot of people, it’s a big political thing, but for me, it’s not so much about that..."

Activision Blizzard is currently under investigation following accusations of harassment, discrimination, and fostering a hostile work environment. You can read more about the investigation here.
Warzone 2 is finally here, which means that battle royale players will soon be dropping into the game’s new map, Al Mazrah, for the first time. That also means that those players will be looking for the map’s best new drop spots.
As is usually the case with battle royale games, finding the best drop points in Warzone 2 depends on your preferences, situation, and timing. If, for instance, you find yourself flying into the northern part of the map, it may not be worth it to wait for an ideal drop point all the way to the south.
That’s why I’m including a series of optimal drop points spread across the bulk of the Warzone 2 map. So wherever you may happen to fly into,...

The biggest night in gaming is back, live from Los Angeles, and we finally know the list of nominees who are set to be honored at the ceremony. Airing on Dec. 8, The Game Awards 2022 will see the industry come together to celebrate the latest and greatest the year had to offer, from the big AAAs that dominated the sales charts to the smaller indie hits that captivated us. In fact, it’s a particularly big year for indie darlings competing in the Game of the Year category.
Unsurprisingly, God of War: Ragnarok and Elden Ring lead the nominations, and are both favorites to win Game of the Year. The former, with 10 nominations, is a critically-acclaimed sequel to what is Santa Monica Studio’s action-adventure masterpiece, which also happened to win Goty in 2018. The other is the latest Soulsborne title from FromSoftware, who most recently won Goty in 2019 with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

This, and the realisation that not everyone obeys the rules, to their obvious benefit, leads to appreciation for the anti-hero, or protagonists with their own value systems.
That may help to explain why we have a sneaking admiration — or interest, at least — in fictional characters whose "heroic" credentials are quite vague as to morality, say James Bond, or his equally lethal but less glamorous American counterpart, Donald Hamilton’s Matt Helm.
Or for that matter, those compelled to take the law into their own hands, vigilante style — an entire host, spanning various genres and media, from Don Pendleton’s Mack Bolan, alias the Executioner, to V from "V for Vendetta", to Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) in the "Death Wish" series of films, to Bollywood’s Angry Young Man.

Often overlooked, these writers craft exciting tales using beloved characters and settings of franchises including the likes of Mike Hammer, Firefly, Murder She Wrote, James Bond, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Wars, Doctor Who, and Star Trek. These stories can be original adventures, or adaptations of movies or television episodes. They include all genres and a wide range of lengths and formats.
To recognize the accomplishments of the unsung authors in this particular field, the Iamtw sponsors the annual Scribe Awards. This year’s awards have six categories to highlight excellence in Novels, Short Stories, Audio Dramas, Young Adult/Middle Grade works, and Graphic Novels.
Congratulations to all the nominees.

Exclusive: Anonymous Content has put in development a limited series adaptation of Tom Cooper’s novel Florida Man, with Joel Edgerton set to star and executive produce. Quarry co-creator/exec producer Graham Gordy is attached to pen the adaptation and executive produce. Edgerton will executive produce via his Five Henrys production banner, as part of a first-look deal with Anonymous Content.
Florida Man, published by Penguin Random House in July, is a darkly comedic generation-spanning story about how a man decides to live his life, and how despite staying landlocked and stubbornly in one place, the world nevertheless comes to him.
It centers on Reed Crowe (Edgerton), the eponymous Florida Man. He is a middle-aged beach bum, beleaguered and disenfranchised, living on ill-gotten gains deep in the jungly heart of Florida. When sinkholes start opening on Emerald Island, not only are Reed Crowe’s seedy businesses–a moribund motel and a shabby amusement park–endangered,...

Updated At 10:16 a.m. Pt: The WGA West has issued their own statement, signed by hundreds of showrunners. It can be read in its entirety below, but states in part:
“We agree that testing is paramount and the cornerstone of any return to work. We also find their suggestion of a zone system smart and essential – with one caveat: to reduce a director’s guesswork in trying to execute the Showrunner’s vision, and, therefore, reduce the number of reshoots, the involvement of the Showrunners and their writer proxies on the set is a must – either in person or if those with disability or underlying health issues are unable to be on set physically, with proper accommodations so they can still do their jobs effectively.”
Previously:
Guidelines from Hollywood unions on how to resume production amid the Covid-19 pandemic were released last week, but one group was noticeably left out: writers.

Cinemax will no longer commission original shows as HBO Max gears up for its forthcoming launch.
The HBO sister network will continue to remain as a linear cable channel, which largely airs movies, but the Cinemax brand will not be transferred to the HBO Max service.
The revelation came up during the HBO Max exec session at the Winter TCA press tour with HBO Max Chief Content Officer Kevin Reilly, HBO Max Chief Content Officer Sarah Aubrey and Michael Quigley, executive vice president of content acquisitions and strategy.
Reilly said, “You can expect that there won’t be any more [Cinemax] originals.”
Cinemax has changed its originals strategy a number of times in recent years. It has largely been involved as the U.S. home for international co-productions such as Left Bank-produced action drama Strike Back, which is a co-pro with UK’s Sky, and detective drama C.B Strike,...

When the Hard Case Crime imprint arrived on the scene, it wasn’t a question of if, but when, they published something by Max Allan Collins. Collins is something of a star in several fields, but is probably best known for writing the graphic novel Road to Perdition, which later became a pretty good film with Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. Me, I love him for his stint writing Batman, his comic book private eye, Ms Tree, and his work on Dick Tracy. He’s also written for TV shows like CSI, there’s no doubting the man loves his crime fiction. All that being said, I have never read the novels or seen the TV show Quarry on which this is based, so am going into this review blind. Let’s take a look.

Game of Thrones‘ Kit Harington is ready to topple the monarchy in the first trailer for the upcoming HBO miniseries Gunpowder.
The Guy Fawkes-inspired thriller, which first premiered on BBC One in October, chronicles the attempt made by Fawkes and a group of provincial English Catholics (led by Harington’s Robert Catesby) to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I, all in an effort to help restore a Catholic to the crown. Peter Mullan (Quarry), Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) and Liv Tyler (The Leftovers) co-star.

The trailer for HBO’s newest miniseries “Gunpowder” makes one thing perfectly clear: Kit Harington’s hair should only be styled down. (Looking at you, Jon Snow man-bun.) In any case, the introduction to the latest three-part 17th century thriller features Harington as Robert Catesby, the driving force behind the Gunpowder Plot that enveloped London back in 1605.
Catesby, a committed Catholic, struggles to live in Protestant England where Catholics are ruthlessly persecuted. Robert Cecil, King James’ spymaster (played by Mark Gatiss of “Game of Thrones” and “Sherlock” fame), oppresses those who are openly Catholic through loss of property, torture, and death. The acclaimed cast also features Liv Tyler (“The Leftovers”) as Catesby’s cousin, Anne Vaux, and Peter Mullan (“Quarry”) as the Jesuit Father Garnet.
The series, which originally aired on BBC One, was received as a historically accurate drama with gruesome and violent scenes that shocked some unknowing viewers.

“You married a wild spirit,” someone warns Queen Elizabeth in the Season 2 trailer for Netflix’s The Crown. “Trying to tame him is no use.”
And while Philip’s chafing at his official role does seem to take up a lot of his wife’s energies in the promo, released Monday, the queen has a bunch more problems — both foreign and domestic — to deal with in the upcoming second season. Per the official release, the new episodes will take place “as the fragile social order established after the Second World War breaks apart.”
