Too much in too little time

The Santa Clauses: Season 2 on Disney+ continues with the same cast returning to the show. This season we learn there was a Mad Santa before the current Santa ever existed. The Mad Santa who is played by Eric Stonestreet gets trapped in a Nutcracker for over 700 years till he is released by Kris Kringle, played by Gabriel Iglesias. Kringle runs a Christmas themed ranch till Mad Santa turns things around with his magic. In the meantime, Tim's son is being trained to replace his role as Santa and his daughter learns she has the powers of being a witch. The storyline tries to fit too many facts in six short episodes including that La Befana (Laura San Giacomo) was part of the Legendary group. Overall the story was fun, with plenty of Christmas themed scenes but the acting took a back seat and it felt corny. Not sure if there will be a third season but Santa Claus 4 the movie is in development.

That was the finale?

Warning: Spoilers
I'm truly blown away that a writing team could spend an entire season building up the final battle between the two Santas as well as the Elves vs Gnomes and then end it without a second of excitement. The only "battle" we actually got to see play out was Olga vs Betty and that was a bit of wrestling followed by a very awkward "we're besties now" moment. Instead of having an episode dedicated to the clash that they had spent 5 episodes building up to, they decided to make the gnomes put away their 700 years of hate with a 15 second speech. Not to be outdone, the two Santas played hot potato with a cup and then decided that all was good as well. Disney is getting massive cuts in what they spend on streaming content so this is likely the last season of this show and it's sad that the franchise is going out on another very poor note just like with The Santa Clause 3.

Wanga Banga Langa!

Warning: Spoilers
This was a real mixed bag.

The whole showdown between the Mad Santa (Eric Stonestreet horribly being given free reign to be 'funny') and Santa has been built up all series...and then doesn't really amount to much. Mad Santa ends up coaching him on how to be a better father!

The Betty/Olga fight - again, over in a flash.

This second series feels like it was rushed into production too quickly and they didn't have a solid story to go on.

The Easter episode was horrid, and I don't know why on Earth they sent Betty away.

It all ends nicely, we end up forgetting some of the flaws, and there's some nice call backs to the original films, but if this series is to return for a third outing I would urge them to take better care of the beloved franchise than they did here.
