Ioan Gruffudd was wonderful in a challenging guest role of a driven public speaker, author, life coach, with a serious mental & emotional health condition he himself is unaware of having. One problem is, if it becomes public, it would be misconstrued & would certainly ruin him personally & professionally. The second problem is, a huge part of his professional image & message is: psychiatric & psychological help from an outside professional is never necessary.
How do you help someone who refuses to acknowledge a problem exists? Can a mental health professional help someone who doesn't believe in professional help for mental health issues? This storyline raises lots of interesting questions.
If it were a longer show or arc, they would have had to video tape the guy to prove to him his condition existed. (That would have also been a fascinating episode & a great acting challenge.)
I should note, I only watched the show to see Ioan's guest spot. I am not a regular viewer of Necessary Roughness.
