Hong Kong – Finally, some good news for Will Smith and director M Night Shyamalan: After Earth topped the Chinese box office during its opening weekend in the country. With the state-backed China Film News blog reporting the rough estimate of the film’s gross from Friday to Sunday at just over $13.8 million (85 million yuan), the film appears to have successfully fended off the challenge of Taiwanese singer-director (and The Green Hornet actor) Jay Chou’s martial arts musical The Rooftop. I guess you could say that former “Green Hornet” star Jay Chou’s “The Rooftop” is sort of like that TV show “Glee”, what with the kids singing and dancing and whatnot. It’s kind of like that show, but with some kung fu thrown in, and no one is doing those weird, constipated singing faces that they tend to do on the show. Or at least, the few episodes I’ve seen, anyway. And did I mention kung fu? Dancing kung fu? Yeah, there’s some of that, too. Check out the U.S. trailer for Chou’s “The Rooftop”. I’m not sure who will be flocking to see this thing, since I’m guessing the same kids who watch “Glee” wouldn’t be caught dead watching anything with subtitles. Reading is, like, really hard, ya know? The kung fu fans, then? Probably a little too much dancing and singing for their tastes.

Horror Is Child’S Play – Don Mancini’S Curse Of Chucky (World Premiere)
A rarity among genre franchises, the Child’S Play series (begun in 1988) has retained the sure-handed guidance of original screenwriter/creator Don Mancini throughout killer doll Chucky’s decades’-long reign of horror. Mancini, who will be hosting our “scar-studded” world premiere, graduated to the director’s chair with 2004’s Seed Of Chucky, after having co-written or written every entry in the series. His longevity with the project is, of course, matched by the fiendish voiceover work by...
