Rick and Morty is one of the most out-of-the-box shows out there. From fake vats of acid to snake jazz and even fascist shrimps, it is safe to say that no other show could compete with such interesting streams of creativity. It is due to this aspect that the series has never been accused of taking inspiration from elsewhere.
While it does frequently call itself out on moments where it is imitating other popular television and film moments, this didn’t happen every time. In an interview, the creator of the series confessed that one of the most iconic episodes from the show was inspired by another television classic.
It would seem that the Pickle Rick episode was inspired by Breaking Bad, and the reasoning is extremely interesting.

If there is one thing that the show Rick and Morty loves to do, it is to explore the darker sides of its titular characters. Considering the fact that its two main villains are Evil Morty and Rick Prime, it really puts a new twist on the idea of one being their own worst enemy. Across seven seasons, we have seen C-137 Morty and Rick tear each other apart because of their differences and problems.
With this in mind, I believe that Evil Morty and Rick Prime act almost like exaggerations of their toxic characteristics, showcasing just how far the two characters could go if they wanted to. While this balance was maintained till the sixth season, the scales seem to be tipped now that Rick Prime is out of the picture.

Rick and Morty manage to stand out in many ways. With its cynical perspective towards pretty much everything, there are few topics that the show does not make fun of. From addressing irritating criticisms that the writers have received over the years to calling out their own creators, the series doesn’t care who it pisses off in its pursuit of being authentic.
While there are many lines that it crosses, the show is very rarely hypocritical. With most of the ideologies being voiced by Rick’s character, the show may call him out on his inconsistencies, but very rarely does it fail to see its own variability.
However, there is one specific instance where the series tried its hand at meta storytelling and calling out the canon, only to follow exactly what it was insulting.

After the seventh season finale, everything changed for Rick and Morty. In one of the best self-aware moments for both characters, audiences got to see both of them in a different light, but only one of them emerged transformed. While many seasons of the series have had captivating storylines, I don’t think any have been able to challenge the titular characters’ belief system as much as the seventh season.
While this could lead to some very interesting storylines for both Morty and Rick, it could fundamentally change the show. Since it has spent seven seasons establishing a specific kind of dynamic between the two, a change in this could become cataclysmic in a way that I don’t think it could come back from.

The relationship that Rick and Morty share stands as one of the most interesting aspects of the show, in my opinion. Although dissecting Rick’s psyche is one of my favorite things to do, it cannot be completely done without analyzing his relationship with Morty. The series has maintained a certain level of consistency when it comes to its relationship. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is up to public opinion.
However, there is no denying that the power dynamic is toxic in many ways. This has been a point of criticism among fans, not targeted towards the creators, but towards Rick’s character. With so many complexities when it comes to their grandfather-grandson relationship, it would seem that the eighth season might finally bring a change to this dynamic.

Mr. Poopybutthole is certainly one of the most bizarre characters from Rick and Morty. In addition to his less-than-mature name, his entrance into the series certainly made fans wary of him for a very long time. Entering the Total Rickall episode along with a parasite-infested Smith family home, audiences were convinced that he was one of them.
However, it took Beth ruining his life by shooting him for audiences to realize that they were watching yet another good friend of Rick experience a traumatic event. Since then, he has been present in almost all of the season finales, breaking the fourth wall in a way that even the Smiths don’t.
In the fifth season, he has a surprisingly insightful moment with the audience that leads to some deep introspection for the viewers. While many believe that it was a moment of vulnerability for Justin Roiland to foreshadow his alleged darker colors,...

Rick and Morty has many storylines with vague endings. Considering how many things are left ambiguous within the series, it is not surprising that theorizing has become a common practice among fans. In addition to enjoying the witty humor the show presents, audiences have also immersed themselves in the world that it has created, trying to predict what is to come next.
While one might think this is something new, this has been going on from the early seasons of the series. Interestingly enough, it would seem one fan theorized so close to the sun that they forced Dan Harmon to alter the direction of the entire show completely.
Rick doesn’t do time travel…but Morty does?

Pickle Rick doesn’t have a deeper meaning. That is what Rick wants audiences to believe when he decides to turn himself into a pickle in the third season of Rick and Morty. He constantly tries to convince the audience of the same, and the only reasonable explanation for his actions seems to be a way to avoid going to family therapy.
However, many may not know that the transformation of Rick into a vegetable has a lot to do with his psyche. Dan Harmon revealed that the entire episode is a metaphor for Rick’s alcoholism, and I cannot believe that it was right in front of me this whole time.

The trailer opens to the sight of numerous fantastical new worlds, all before pulling back to reveal Morty and Summer hooked up to some sort of machine in Rick's lab (also known as Jerry's garage). For many seasons now, there has been underlying tension between the protagonists of Rick and Morty. Although the two characters have had a kind of banter throughout the series, it seems to have taken on a resentful tone from Morty’s side. This was first set up as far back as the first season, with the very first Citadel episode.
With the trailer for the eighth season having finally been released, it seems possible that the show will go down this storyline again. However, the direction it could be taking with Evil Morty could be very different this time.
A Morty always needs a Rick…or do they?
With the release of the eighth season approaching, Rick and Morty have finally released the trailer, and it is quite insightful. Among many hints about what is to come, two specific scenes felt out of place considering the overall story of the show.

It’s been about a year and a half since the last season of Rick and Morty ended with the season finale titled “Fear No Mort”, and fans of the series have been dying for more.
“The best high concept sci-fi rigamarole in the universe is back," says the new trailer.
You can check out the trailer for the new season below.
“The Last Temptation of Jerry,” is an upcoming season eight episode that has been talked about more than others. It features a religious plotline that shows Rick and Morty’s search for the real deal Easter Bunny as Space Christians. In the season eight trailer, Jerry is seen gnawing a head of lettuce with inhuman-like speed. Could Jerry be the Easter Bunny?...

The eighth season of Rick and Morty is coming next month, and Adult Swim just released a new trailer! Watch it above.
This will be the second season where Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden will voice Rick and Morty respectively, after previous voice actor Justin Roiland left the show following allegations of domestic violence. Personally, I didn't hear much of a difference in season 7 and am looking forward to seeing how these two can add more of themselves to the show while still staying within the lines established by the first six seasons.
As for what kinds of crazy sci-fi adventures Rick and Morty will go on this time, expect the unexpected: space Catholics, Rick's Death Race car, Colonel Sanders Rick, Jerry eating a cabbage way faster than anyone should be able to eat a cabbage, Summer with short hair, mob justice, and more. Adult Swim has already released the titles for all 10 upcoming episodes.

Just two days after Space Christ rose from the dead, Rick and Morty is showing off some more Easter Eggs.
This May 25th, Rick and Morty will return with all-new episodes for the eighth season of its current 12-season order and 100-year plan. Eighteen months after we last saw one-half of the titular sci-fi duo face his own worst hang-ups in the Season Seven finale “Fear No Mort,” Rick and Morty Season Eight will premiere with an episode titled “Summer of All Fears,” but the plot line we’re really curious to see play will come on June 15th with the Easter-focused episode “The Last Temptation of Jerry.”
Every new promo for Rick and Morty Season Eight has heavily featured scenes that we can reasonably assume came from “The Last Temptation of Jerry,” an uncharacteristically religious plot line that features Rick and Morty’s search for the actual Easter Bunny...

Rick and Morty Season Eight will premiere on May 25th, which gives us ample time to wildly speculate on the future of high-concept sci-fi rigamarole.
It’s been 16 months since the most recent episode of Rick and Morty aired, and although the wait has been a long one, at least this off-season was decidedly less eventful than the last one when the show’s most toxic fans melted down over the removal of a certain disgraced co-creator. Since we last saw Rick and Morty in the main series, we suffered through Rick and Morty: The Anime, Dan Harmon released absolutely zero promising updates on The Community Movie and both Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden enjoyed their quiet break between recording sessions with minimal hate mail.
Then, this morning, Adult Swim released the newest official trailer for Rick and Morty Season Eight, a teaser that’s filled with hints and reveals for upcoming episode plot lines.

If there is one thing that fans can always count on Rick and Morty for, it is originality. There are several episodes throughout the seasons that leave fans wondering how the writers even came up with them, and rightfully so. From making a giant incest baby and shooting it into space to killing sentient god-like clouds and even slutty dragons, the show really knows how to keep their viewers guessing.
While all of its seasons have done an excellent job at keeping this part of the series alive and consistent, there seems to be an evident change in the latest seasons that has been upsetting viewers. With the eighth season’s release being just around the corner, one cannot help but hope the series sticks to its roots and doesn’t stray away from the one thing that fans adore the most about it.

Rick and Morty has always thrived on its unpredictability, twisting plotlines, and leaving us all guessing. But here’s a shocker: one mystery is staying unsolved. According to the creators, there’s something they’re deliberately leaving out of the equation.
So, while we’ll keep digging for answers, the creators have confirmed that one piece of the puzzle is just going to stay tucked away. It’s a bold move in a show that loves to mess with its audience, but it’s also what keeps the fanbase hooked.

Rick and Morty made chaos an art form. Since its 2013 debut, the sci-fi comedy smashed multiverses with dark humor, wild action, and a weirdly emotional core. But one thing it never did was spill Rick’s full backstory.

But who is playing this new authority figure that could clash with our heroes? None other than beloved star, Jeffery Wright.

Dan Harmon may have his hands full with the upcoming Community movie and subsequent seasons of Rick and Morty, but at least he does not have to deal with replacing his main voice actor and re-recording a whole season’s worth of lines. Harmon had the painful task of replacing Justin Roiland after he was fired from the show due to several accusations.
Roiland voiced both the titular characters in the animated sci-fi series and was the co-creator of the show. However, he was soon replaced by Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden for season 7, and frankly, they killed it. The reception was not too bad, and while some loyalists prefer Roiland’s work, Harmon had a hilarious response to the quality of the show.

Rick and Morty is philosophical throw-up wrapped in the disguise of a sitcom. The series has many hard-hitting moments, with it having several running jokes, and some of the most ridiculous episodes in television history. At the same time, it poses many contemplative questions that leave the viewer transformed within the span of a twenty-minute episode. It is this intellectual humor that has had audiences hooked since 2013.
However, one moment could have unraveled everything for the series. With its main concept acting as a form of escapism from the real world, things get very complicated when reality comes crashing in. When Justin Roiland had to leave the series because of his controversy, the show was left without its creator and the voices of both Morty and Rick.
With this in mind, one cannot help but wonder how Dan Harmon was able to make the seventh season a success.

In the "Rick and Morty" episode "Meeseeks and Destroy" -- a fan favorite, although maybe not one of the best -- Rick reveals a miraculous widget called the Meeseeks Box, a device that can manifest a helpful blue alien named Mr. Meeseeks. The eager extra-terrestrial serves as a temporary personal helper, tasked with aiding their summoner in a single, simple task. Once the task has been completed, Mr. Meeseeks breathes a sigh of relief and promptly ceases to exist.
When given the Meeseeks Box, Summer (Spencer Grammer) asks that Mr. Meeseeks help her become more popular at school, and the alien delivers an inspiring speech. Beth (Sarah Chalke) asks that she be made a "more complete woman," and Mr. Meeseeks takes her on a date and says encouraging things. But Jerry (Chris Parnell) asks that Mr. Meeseeks help him improve his golf game, which sounds innocuous enough on the surface.

With hits from ‘The Simpsons’ to ‘Solar Opposites,’ Hulu has quietly built the strongest animated lineup on streaming.
Animated comedies are my comfort food. When life’s chaotic, there’s nothing better than sinking into the couch and putting on an episode of “The Simpsons.” That show has literally been around as long as I have, and it’s still going strong. Then came “Family Guy” about a decade later, and even though the tone is way different, it quickly earned a spot on my go-to list. Between those two, you’ve basically got the blueprint for modern animated comedy. And the best part? They’re both streaming on Hulu, along with a ridiculous number of other hits from FX and Fox. If animated sitcoms are your thing, there’s really no better place to stream. Here’s why Hulu’s the best of the bunch for streaming animated comedy TV shows.

The Rick and Morty Season Eight episode titles are out, and the Central Finite Curve isn’t ready to see what “Morty Daddy” has in store.
This May 25th, Rick and Morty will return to Adult Swim after an uncharacteristically quiet 17-month hiatus that included no behind-the-scenes drama or high-profile firings. The most recent Rick and Morty episode, the Season Seven finale “Fear No Mort,” didn’t leave the titular duo in the middle of a cliffhanger or trapped in a prison cell, a collapsing citadel or an indefinite time freeze, and with the show’s most speculated-upon plot thread finally wrapped up, Rick and Morty Season Eight will have as close to a clean slate to explore new plotlines as any season has had since the show’s start.
As such, Rick and Morty fans should be pumped to see what Dan Harmon has in store for the show’s next step,...

In Rick and Morty Season Eight, a certain special Rick and Morty side character may finally manage to escape Jerry’s brain. Now if only Jerry himself could be so lucky.
Of all the many different versions of Rick Sanchez that are or were spread out across the Central Finite Curve, countless iterations of the Rick and Morty star are doomed to be forgotten in the multiversal wreckage that follows Rick C-137 wherever and whenever he goes. Considering that Rick has proven himself to be more than willing to wipe out entire worlds on a whim and leave universe after universe behind him without looking back, you’d have to believe that only the most malignant memories have the ability to haunt the tortured genius, such as those ones concerning, Rick Prime, C-137’s original family or his personal “Vietnam” and the friendship fallout that followed.

Adult Swim’s latest promo for the upcoming Rick and Morty Season Eight just teased that the series is finally turning “Interdimensional Cable” into a trilogy, but we really want the show to give us eight specials, one for each Jan-Michael Vincent.
Back in the first season of Rick and Morty, the writing staff’s loose, explorative approach to building out the multiversal world of the series led to the creation of an episode that would come to define the show’s tone and sense of humor for the next decade with “Rixty Minutes.” This soon-to-be fan-favorite episode introduced Rick’s most entertaining invention: the Interdimensional Cable Box, which allows the Sanchez-Smith family to watch every show from every channel of television in any universe, allowing them and us to watch brief snippets of improvisational chaos with endless comedic possibilities.

Spoilers below for the "Black Mirror" episode "Bête Noire."
After the fan backlash to "Black Mirror" season 6's brief foray into fantasy territory, it seems at first glance like season 7 has course corrected: every episode of the new season is based around technology in some way, with no werewolves or demons in sight. However, the premise of the second episode of the season, "Bête Noire," is science fiction by technicality alone. When the villain reveals her big scheme, it's hard not to wonder: at what point does the tech become so advanced it's basically magic?
The episode is about Maria (Siena Kelly), a woman who feels like she's going crazy when Google results and written evidence start contradicting her own memories. At first she only misremembers trivial things, like discovering that the fictional "Barnies" chain restaurant has actually been "Bernies" this whole time; it's a fun reverse of the common Mandela effect example people give,...

It's been two years since Rick and MortySeason 7 aired its last episode, and the wait for Season 8 is almost over. Adult Swim released an early teaser for the show's eighth installment, which will air in just a few months. As expected, the preview continues to make Jerry the butt of the joke and him being ignored by his family.
The video starts with Jerry singing a Christmas jingle, but with the lyrics changed for an Easter setting. Unfortunately, he's the only one who caught the mid-year festive bug, as everyone in the Smith family would rather be doing other things. He last approaches Rick, who he didn't bother asking after seeing him disposing of a slime creature down the garage sink. Tony Gilroy kicked off the story of the protagonist in Andor Season 1 with his search for his sister in Episode 1. Since then, Cassian Andor had become a wanted man and started a rebellion against the empire. However, we never got a closure on Cassian’s sister Kerri’s storyline. We only see Kerri in flashback scenes in the first season and a mention of her when Maarva discourages Cassian from looking for her.
Gilroy hasn’t forgotten about her, as he addressed that plotline during interviews. When asked if that story thread would be pulled on again in Season 2, Gilroy shared that it was a complicated answer. Gilroy might either entirely discard that storyline or take a chance and bring that dark, intricate plot into Star Wars.

The anime industry is booming this year as many new projects have taken center stage, and fans are excited about the new lineup. And while most of them are great in every aspect, there are some that fail to live up to the expectations of fans and are thus considered failures. One such anime that carried a lot of expectations but could not live up to them was Lazarus, which was announced by Adult Swim.

Lazarus is created by one of the biggest legends in the anime world, Shinichiro Watanabe, and it was produced by Mappa and Sola Entertainment. These few aspects backed Lazarus‘ success, but according to the fans, even after having such a brilliant team working on it, the series still couldn’t hit the spot.

Nathan Fillion’s latest, The Rookie, was recently renewed for an eighth season. In an era of limited series and two-year waits between seasons, the ABC procedural has become a runaway success due to its exploration of topical subject matter and interesting storylines. Fillion plays John Nolan, a man in his late 40s beginning a career in law enforcement.
Fillion has been a stalwart in the industry for decades. Apart from his work on film, he is particularly known for his TV roles such as Mal Reynolds in Firefly and the crime author Richard Castle in Castle. However, the actor related to Nolan in The Rookie as he, too, found himself reinventing every few years and restarting his career.

Tony Gilroy created Andor, one of the most well-received shows in the Star Wars franchise. It is slated to return for a second and final season later this month, with Diego Luna reprising his role as the titular scoundrel-turned-rebel hero.
In its first season, Andor pushed plenty of boundaries that come with playing the Star Wars sandbox. One of these aspects was Gilroy’s inclusion of some mature elements that can easily anger anti-woke fans, especially with the introduction of LGBTQ+ characters.

During an interview, Gilroy broke down his approach to writing some of the more bold scenes in the first installments. The showrunner’s comments prove that he knew exactly how to write these scenes so that they do not end up offending the hardcore fans, and here is what he had to say.

Andor did something for the Star Wars fandom that was first for the franchise. It showed the audience that the IP can actually grow with its audience, going places that were simply alluded to in the franchise so far.
When talking about The Empire, The Spice Trade, The Outlaws, and the Rebellion, it is easy to forget that Star Wars, before Andor, presented these concepts as part of the set dressing, only a vehicle for the story, with no focus on how they would actually play out.

Andor took this setting that was created by George Lucas and really dug deep into it in a manner that made it look like Rogue One was simply scratching the surface. Tony Gilroy revealed that his inspiration for one of the best scenes from Andor actually came from Rick and Morty, of all places.

Have you ever wondered why some things just don’t add up in the Rick and Morty universe? The show is packed with bizarre, mind-bending twists, but one of its most debated mysteries is the existence of Mr. Poopybutthole.
He’s that tiny, yellow, oddly charming guy who first appeared in Total Rickall, an episode dedicated to alien parasites implanting false memories. At first, everyone assumed he was another parasite. But then, in a shocking twist, he was real. Like, 100% legit. But how?

"The Last of Us" is a gripping drama. It's also a video game adaptation that does something unique with its zombie apocalypse, trading in the walking dead for very much alive people infected by a fungus that takes over their brains and bodies. The infected are a source of infinite horror on the series, with new types providing more and more nightmare fuel. But even when there are no infected to be found, "The Last of Us" is a horror story in which danger lurks around every corner (with plenty of emotional devastation soon to follow after). It's a bleak and, at times, frankly nihilistic show about how terrifying fungi can be, with characters that are mostly miserable and only able to find small glimmers of hope at the end of the world.

Rick and Morty Season Eight has its official release date, and the fans finally have their first look at the new season, just in time for Easter.
Today is April 1st, which is a special day for Rick and Morty fans who remember when Dan Harmon and Adult Swim pulled the greatest non-prank in sitcom history by surprise-dropping the first episode of Rick and Morty’s third season, “The Rickshank Rickdemption,” on April Fool’s Day 2017. This year’s Rick and Morty-themed April Fool’s festivities were significantly more bizarre than the Season Three celebration, as, this morning, Adult Swim posted a nearly 27-minute, live-action, fever-dreamlike theatrical reinterpretation of classic moments from the show’s first seven seasons called “Portal People” that was probably much funnier as a concept than it was around minute 17 when a geriatric troupe of community theater actors performed an awkward, clomping rendition of “The Rick Dance.

The upcoming eighth season of Rick and Morty will premiere on Sunday, May 25 on Adult Swim. So says a short new teaser that you can watch above.
Rick and Morty deal with Space Christians in what looks like some kind of Easter special. This marks the second season where Ian Cardoni will voice super-scientist Rick Sanchez and Harry Belden his hapless grandson Morty Smith. The two of them are subbing in for Justin Roiland, who left the show following allegations of domestic violence.
Cardoni and Belden did a good job with the seventh season of the show, although you could tell that they were trying to do their best Justin Roiland impressions. And they should; they're voicing characters he played. But now that they've settled into the roles a bit, I wonder if they can bring a bit more of their own spin to the proceedings.
Also, before the release date reveal,...

For Rick and Morty fans, this April Fool's Day is leaving them feeling anything but foolish. Adult Swim commemorated the day of pranks with a special midnight live stream recreating some of the adult animated series's greatest moments, like Pickle Rick and the iconic intro, through a 22-minute comedic anthology stage production. However, that was only the beginning of the surprise, as the event ended with an official release date and first look at Season 8, teasing some of the zany new adventures the titular duo will go on next. New episodes will begin airing on May 25 at 11 p.m. Et/Pt before the entire run arrives on streaming in the U.S. on September 1.

We have a date for the return of Rick and Morty. Adult Swim announced Season 8 will premiere Sunday, May 25 at 11 pm Et/Pt. The date was revealed tonight at the end of Adult Swim’s traditional April Fools’ Day broadcast special. The 22-minute anthology special featured fan favorite Rick and Morty moments re-told through an Adult Swim lens of absurd, live-action, theater-based genres.
“We hope you enjoyed our theater interpretations of Rick and Morty, especially if you are well-off/impulsive and now want to back a Broadway version of the show,” said Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen. “For the rest of you, we’re glad you now know when Season Eight is starting so you have time to stretch and get loose because the team has yet again made a totally great season of television.”
Rick and Morty follows a sociopathic genius scientist who drags his inherently timid grandson on adventures across the universe.
