Winner of "Best Thriller Short" at Motor City Nightmares 2013.
Just before Gideon switches his TV to The Driller Killer, the director's school thesis film, Videotape, can be heard in the background.
All of the actors previously auditioned for the director's first school project, a psychological slasher called Psychos and Functioning Psychos. Dave Kilgore and Dustin Wilfert both had lead roles, while Michael Bugard and Joe Lyon auditioned for parts.
Unseasonably warm winter weather threatened the continuity of the film during shooting. In 2012, Michigan got the least amount of snow since the 1920's, but a huge blizzard occurred the sole weekend of the shoot. Then, it was melted the following Tuesday. The shots seen in the opening credits were done weeks after initial filming had wrapped in order to keep up the continuity of snow on the ground, seen outside Ronnie's window throughout the film.
The script was completed in less than two hours. It was originally only half as profane as the finished film. Many of the film's more explicit lines were improvised by the actors, including Marshall telling Gideon to "Put on your listening ears, motherf***er!", or Nick calling Gideon a "f***ing c**t". The director liked the takes and decided to leave them in the final cut.
