If there’s one thing that Garry Ripka finds more nerve-racking than fishing for Dungeness crab in “the Graveyard of the Pacific,” it’s knowing that, once Deadliest Catch spinoff Dungeon Cove premieres Tuesday (Discovery, 9/8c), he’ll be doing it in front of an audience of potentially millions.
“Sleepless nights have been happening the more I think about it,” he admits to TVLine. “It’s on my mind a lot, I’ll put it that way.” Here, the veteran skipper previews the Season 1 premiere, discusses his challenging working relationship with son and fellow captain Kenny, and reveals the most dangerous part of their job.

For Deadliest Catch captain Sig Hansen, the end of Season 12 — and the crab-fishing season — couldn’t come soon enough. And who could blame him?
Not only were the crab particularly elusive, but there was a fire aboard Hansen’s boat, the Northwestern, and he suffered a heart attack at sea. Still, “at the end of the day,” he tells TVLine, “I think that I did fine.”

Neophyte captain Josh Harris has dropped a string of crab pots at his late father Phil’s former hot spot, only to find that, er, it ain’t so hot anymore. “Just because his old man crabbed here back in the day,” grouses a deckhand, “doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s still crab here.

As if the fire that broke out aboard Sig Hansen‘s Northwestern in the June 21st episode of Deadliest Catch hadn’t sufficiently reminded us why “deadly” is front and center in the Discovery series’ title, this week’s installment dishes out a potential catastrophe that’s arguably even scarier to behold.

Discovery is offering a new "pre-show" for the ninth season of their signature hit. "Deadliest Catch: The Bait" will feature candid chats with the captains of the various ships spotlighted. And right away in the premiere, it proved that it will be must-watch television for fans of the reality series.
For the premiere episode, Elliott Neese revealed that he was fired from the Ramblin' Rose. He explained that he was let go because the owner watches the show. It was a scene where a crew member under Elliott's watch fell asleep at the wheel and almost crashed the boat into the ice.
The problem, though, was that Elliott claims the scene never happened. Is he saying the producers faked it to create drama? "That never actually really happened," Elliott said. "I was a little pissed off about that.”
Executive producer Jeff Conroy defended the show, saying, "We have a difference of opinion.

Tonight, Deadliest Catch returns for its ninth season on Discovery, and there is top-notch drama even before the fleet leaves Dutch Harbor. Here, courtesy of exec producer David Pritikin, is a tease of what’s to come.
• Elliott Neese is now his own boss: Fired from the Ramblin’ Rose in the offseason, the show’s youngest and most polarizing captain has gone more than $1 million in debt to buy his own boat, the F/V Saga. Most shocking perhaps: Seeing the pride in his father’s misty eyes may, at least for a moment, have you thinking you’ve misjudged Elliott.
