"Die letzte Fahrt" tells the story of a middle-aged woman struggling with her marriage, who goes on a boat trip along the rhine with her father and son in order to honor her dead mother's last wish. On the journey she meets an old teenage friend who makes her question the life she's living.
The movie consists of many stereotypes: The stubborn old man, the unemotional businessman, the middle-aged married woman eager for love and affection.. It keeps the characters simple (of course the cold-hearted husband cheated first in order to make the flirt with an old friend look more morally justifiable) and has a strange morale that I can only interpret as an attempt to make unhappily married couples feel better because story-wise the end doesn't make much sense. However the film remains slightly entertaining, delivers some very beautiful shots of the landscape and is rather relaxing, since you also begin to float through the story.
All in all this is nothing more than your average tv film with some drama but not too much to shock any possible viewer away. Not a particular brave or exciting movie but also not a total flop.
