Chanel has a brand new face
Rodrigo_Amaro14 June 2023
While the expected partnership between legendary Martin Scorsese and Timothée Chalamet while filming an ad for Chanel doesn't get a release (as of now), in spite of all the countless behind the scenes pictures and videos shown and of which an "accident" was spotted (not real, probably done for the commercial), this comes as a presentation of Chalamet as the new face of Chanel for the time being. This is not the one done by Marty, though, and it's interesting to notice that Marty also presented a new face to the fragrance a decade ago and it was the late Gaspard Ulliel ("Hannibal Rising") in one of the most memorable commercials for the brand - the famous one where he walks out of a press conference and the walls around him and the audience go down.

It's too quick to cause some higher effect but if you're a fan you know you'll get that effect. Timmy appears in a very slow manner as the sad "Nights in White Satin" plays in the background, initially revealing a quite somber face that slowly becomes quite seductive without telling much about such intention. With subtle expressions like that which can go in countless effective ways done in a matter of seconds, that's talent displayed right there. No words of effect and enpowerement heard, just Timmy saying the fragrance's name with his perfect French accent.

The effect works, the viewer might get curious for the brand but it's the more elevated concept or storyline that truly gets the viewer, outside of the actor's fans. I love the song but just find it too sad for such piece - but in another way I like its inclusion since most commercials of similar kind tend to use trendy or sexy songs. This one shows you can go way back in time and generate interest for different generations. Definitely worthy of view and with Chalamet you can't go wrong when he appears in ads, he has a ton and they were all were brilliant. 9/10.
