Hulk Hogan meets Magnum P.I. yet tragedy crushes what might have been.
This episode two from season four of "Vice's" "Dark Side of the Ring" called "Shattered: The Magnum T. A. Story" was one that brought back memories good and bad as it highlights the painful and tragic car crash of one Terry Allen. I remember growing up and loving the "NWA" and "Mid-Atlantic" and "World Championship Wrestling" scene watching it on "WTBS" and syndication. Plus my mother's best friend had a crush on Magnum, he was a heart throb as revealed and told as was even at his ring entrances he received bras and panties from his female fans! Terry Allen discovered in a Virginia Beach bar started out by meeting Dusty Rhodes, and as T. A. got his feet wet in "Florida" and the mid south regions, finally with his skill, body and determination, Dusty cast him in the "NWA" and Mid Atlantic region with the Crockett's and for sure he was the new movie star as the championship belt, was his to be had. Only after a match with Jimmy Garvin, one rainy night and a water puddle would change the life of Magnum and the Crockett league forever. A car crash left him never to wrestle again, heartfelt and emotional interviews are given from ex wrestlers and employees like Jimmy Garvin, Jake Roberts, David Crockett, Jim Cornette, Nikita Koloff, and even legendary wrestling magazine writer Bill Apter. Really the episode is a tribute to the legacy of T. A. as Terry clawed his way back to life, yet sad as it's a reminder of what might have been for this future champ with good looks. A must watch for any old wrestling fan of the 80's as it brings back memories showing how life can change don't ever take anything or nothing for granted.
