Kaye Popp and Stanley Catron lead a troupe of dancers jitterbugging to an instrumental version of the song in this soundie.
Soundies were short videos intended to play on a sort of musical jukebox called the Mills Panaram. These devices were installed in bars, diners, nightclubs and similar venues. Drop a dime in and you got one of ten songs loaded onto the machine. From 1940 through about 1946, Mills and other companies produced more than two thousand of these short films, some of which featured currently popular player,s and some people who would become familiar later. Performers like Dorothy Dandridge, Doris Day, and Ricardo Montalban made their first appearances in soundies.
The song featured here, formally known as "The Founain in the Park", was published 1884. It was made popular by vaudeville performer Ed Haley, and has been sung on stage, in the movies, on television, and even on the moon (by astronauts Harrison Schmidt and Eugene Cernan).
