The Creation of 'Contamination' (2004)
*** (out of 4)
This 23-minute documentary appears to have been made sometime after the release of Luigi Cozzi's CONTAMINATION. This film features the director talking about the various production stages of a movie and we also get quite a bit of behind-the-scenes footage. For the most part I think fans of the film are really going to enjoy this because the director gives so much information about its making. This includes him talking about his love for the genre and talking about the various films that influenced this one. From here he talks about how difficult it is to make a movie on such a small budget and this is where he talks about the various issues that came up during filming. For the most part this is an entertaining documentary that at least gives fans a look at the making of it. I think the most interesting aspects deal with Cozzi wanting to work in as many homages as he can. This includes borrowing from THEM! and INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS as well as ALIEN of course. There are some weak moments including how Cozzi talks at great length about how "fake" everything is on the screen and how most film viewers don't realize certain fake things. This grows very tiresome after a while and especially considering most people watching know that they're seeing fake things.
