In Camera is a bold and creative debut feature for Naqqash Khalid, and one that is perfectly aligned to its leading man, the exciting talent Nabhaan Rizwan. At last year’s London Film Festival, where this film premiered, we had the pleasure in speaking to the aforementioned actor, to discuss a project that now has a UK release – on September 13th.
The film, which offers a unique and resourceful means of storytelling, and blurs the line between reality and fiction, is a project that remains close to home for Rizwan, such is the connection to acting, and in particular, the early stages of a career. He talks about the project in depth and also looking across his own work to date, and his plans for the future.

Nabhaan Rizwan is terrific as he faces the depressing realities and prejudices of trying to break into films in Naqqash Khalid’s brilliantly confident debut
A director is talking to a young British Asian actor. “You’re like the brown version of … what was his name again …?” By the end of the movie, this encounter feels familiar. We’ve watched the young actor grit his teeth through humiliating auditions. In Camera operates partly as a depressingly funny satire of box-ticking, quota-filling diversity in film and television, but with his brilliantly confident debut, film-maker Naqqash Khalid goes beyond exposing the stupid and cynical. With its dreamlike logic, looping around ideas and themes, In Camera is a disorientating film for disorienting times; opaque and enigmatic, scratching to get under the skin.

Add Beck Bennett to the list of Saturday Night Live stars populating superhero movies. James Gunn recently announced that Bennett would appear in his new Superman film as Steve Lombard, a loudmouthed sportswriter who lives to torment Clark Kent.
Bennett is just the latest SNL star to find his way into the Marvel and DC cinematic universes, too. Here are other SNL vets who suited up for super action…
1 Robert Downey Jr.
The undisputed king of this list, Downey spent a tortured year as an SNL cast member when he was only 21. “I learned so much in that year about what I wasn’t,” he told the Off-Camera Show’s Sam Jones. “I was not somebody who was going to do impressions. I was somebody who was very ill-suited for rapid-fire sketch comedy.”

A decade before Monica Geller came into our living rooms, Courteney Cox was just Bruce Springsteen’s biggest fan.
The Friends alum threw it back to her appearance in Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 music video for ‘Dancing in the Dark’ as she jumped on a TikTok trend that asks parents how they danced during the decade.
“1980’s dancing…in the dark,” Cox captioned the video.
In the clip, also posted to Cox’s Instagram page, she begins dancing to the 1984 synth-pop hit ‘Smalltown Boy’ by Bronski Beat, which is commonly used with the social trend.
Looking uncomfortable during her dance, Cox then strips off her hoodie to reveal the same Springsteen t-shirt she wore in the “Dancing in the Dark” video as the track changes and she recreates her dance.

The Swiss/French “Dog on Trial” is set to disrupt, move and entertain the Croisette from what is revealed in a first clip from sales outfit MK2 Films, exclusively shared with Variety.
The film world premieres at Cannes Un Certain Regard May 19.
Writer/actor-turned-director Laetitia Dosch, who delivered what Variety reviewer Peter Debruge called a ‘blazing-wildfire performance’ in the 2017 Camera d’or winner “Jeune Femme”, is herself taking a chance this year on the coveted award. Meanwhile Cosmos the Dog (aka Kodi in the film) will battle for the leather dog collar Palme Dog win.
As the main protagonist Alice, Dosch wears an attorney’s gown to defend the four-legged Cosmos, accused of multiple bite attacks. Known for taking up lost causes, she will rise to the challenge, confront the legal system and advocate both for animal rights and women’s rights.

For the most part, I agree with the combined Golden Globes predictions from Gold Derby’s Experts, Editors and Users in film and television. I mean, how can anyone bet against such heavy favorites as Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) and Sarah Snook (“Succession”)? However, on several occasions I’m going rogue and ignoring the consensus of my fellow awards pundits. Below, see my four “no guts, no glory” predictions for performers that I believe will walk up to the podium on Sunday, January 7 despite not being #1 in our racetrack odds.

With enough passion and grit, powerful, personal stories made one-man-band style can stand up against the best work of top Hollywood talent with far greater budgets.
Warwick Thornton’s “The New Boy,” inspired by his own experiences of being packed off to a Christian boarding school in Australia as a youngster, was in development for 18 years, finally coming together when Cate Blanchett read the script and suggested taking it on through her company Dirty Films. After working with him to adapt the lead role into the character of a nun who fills in for a priest whose death has been kept secret, the project began to come together, with newcomer actor Aswan Reid as the titular boy who begins to work wonders.
It just won the top Camerimage Film Festival prize, the Golden Frog, beating out work by some of Hollywood’s most lauded directors and cinematographers.
