NBA stars have been omnipresent this offseason thanks to the incredible Olympics performance of the United States mens’ basketball team and Steph Curry’s sitcom debut in “Mr. Throwback.” But even if NBA fans didn’t have much of a chance to miss their favorite players, it’s hard to imagine anyone will complain about yet another chance to see some of the game’s biggest names in the final month before regular season play begins.
Netflix has unveiled the trailer for “Starting 5” a new 10-episode documentary that follows five of the league’s biggest stars — LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings, and Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics — over the course of the 2023-2024 NBA season.

Stephen Curry has four NBA championships, two NBA Mvp Awards and an Olympic gold medal, but the Golden State Warriors star is now setting his sights on Hollywood.
Curry is currently starring in Mr. Throwback, a comedy on NBCUniversal’s Peacock, and his Unanimous Media has a full slate of projects and concepts in the works meant to turn the athlete into a media mogul, both in front of and behind the camera.
Over lunch in New York, with his gold medal conspicuously sitting next to his plate, Curry and Unanimous CEO Erick Peyton discussed their plans to turn the company into a bona fide entertainment powerhouse, as well as Curry’s desire to get more acting roles, with Peyton noting that the company is developing a “menu” of options for Curry that he can turn to whenever he decides to hang up his Under Armour sneakers on the court.

Time and time again, we’ve seen how combining big-name Hollywood stars in a made-for-streaming movie is a recipe for success. Netflix’s latest attempt at that formula teams up Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry in “The Union,” and it pays off. The action comedy sits atop the streaming chart on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of August 12 to 18, 2024.
“American Murder: Laci Peterson,” a true crime docuseries about the 2002 murder, comes in at No. 2 this week. It’s followed by “Furioisa, A Mad Max Saga,” which, conveniently for viewers searching across streamers, is on Max. The summer blockbuster, which hit theaters on Memorial Day, is the third-most watched program this week.
The fourth season of Netflix’s popular “Emily in Paris” enters the chart at No. 4 this week after it was added to the library on August 15.

A month after NBC broadcast live Steph Curry’s heroics during the Men’s Basketball Olympics final that helped USA clinch the title, the Golden State Warriors star will be back on the network. NBC will air the first episode of the Peacock original comedy series Mr. Throwback, starring Curry and Adam Pally, on Sept. 12. The pilot will run in the anchor Thursday 9 Pm slot from the network’s “Must See TV” era.
The move is designed to give additional exposure to Mr. Throwback, which premiered Aug. 8 on Peacock alongside the streamer’s Olympics coverage that included Curry & Co.’s quest for Olympic gold.
The half-hour, co-created/executive produced by David Caspe, ranks as a top 5 Peacock original comedy series launch based on its opening weekend viewing out of 19 comedy shows the NBCU streamer has introduced so far. Not surprisingly, 77% of the accounts who watched Mr. Throwback also watched basketball at the Olympics.

I'll be honest. Peacock might not be the first streamer you think of as your go-to. But really, the platform does have some great shows to offer. And that definitely includes Bel-Air season 3! The next chapter in the dramatic story premiered Aug. 15, 2024 with the first three episodes, and we're so excited to see what the season brings.
Season 3 sees the main characters enjoying summertime and taking a break from school with Will and Carlton perhaps finally finding common ground and supporting each other. What I like about this show is definitely the drama, I'm so here for it. Right now, Bel-Air is one of the best series' out there, and I know the third season is going to deliver. The first three episodes have definitely already done so!
With Bel-Air season 3 on Peacock, the streamer does have some other great shows to check out if you haven't given it a chance yet.

If you are unaware that there is a quarterback named Jordan Love on the Green Bay Packers and another named Jalen Hurts on the Philadelphia Eagles, and that together their surnames comprise the title of (and the choral lyrics from) the 1976 power ballad version of “Love Hurts” by Nazareth, and that the two QBs will face each other on Friday, September 6 in a São Paulo, Brazil-based Week 1 NFL game exclusively on Peacock, you must not have streamed much of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
If you did, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. And you would be equally well-aware that NBA all-time great (and now gold-medalist!) Stephen Curry stars in new Peacock sitcom “Mr. Throwback” opposite Adam Pally.
The two Peacock promotions ran incessantly through the Olympics, which included an undefeated run to gold by the U.S. men’s basketball team. LeBron James was named the tournament’s Mvp,...

Spoiler Alert: This article includes details about the season finale of “Mr. Throwback,” now streaming on Peacock.
Stephen Curry couldn’t have done better PR for his first TV show than his performance Thursday at the Paris Olympics. The four-time NBA champion put up 36 points, shooting nearly 70% from three-point range, to propel Team U.S.A. to a comeback win that has sent them to a gold medal match against France. Even sweeter for his collaborators on “Mr. Throwback,” the game occurred on the comedy series’ launch day on Peacock, which has been streaming wall-to-wall coverage of the Olympics.
“I like to think Stephen did that for us,” series executive producer and writer David Caspe half-jokes while speaking during a Zoom interview Thursday afternoon. “It’s launch day, and he said, ‘You know what? I’m gonna go get 36 points just to draw extra attention to our TV show.’ That was really his master plan.

Creative partners Adam Pally and David Caspe didn’t anticipate that the “third in the Pally-Caspe trilogy” would star one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
Pally, a dedicated member of his own rec league basketball team, and Caspe, an “enormous basketball fan and even bigger Stephen Curry fan,” could not believe that the four-time NBA champion wanted to work on a show with them.
“I would not be shocked if we just got a phone call Thursday morning when the show’s supposed to premiere. That’s like, ‘Yeah, Stephen decided not to do it,’” Caspe told TheWrap. “I’d be like, ‘That makes sense. God bless him.’”
The idea for the duo’s mockumentary series “Mr. Throwback” came after an appearance on Ayesha Curry’s HBO Max game show, “About Last Night.”

When Steph Curry Wanted to Become a Sitcom Star, the Minds Behind ‘Happy Endings’ Sprung Into Action
What do you do when one of the biggest sports stars on the planet asks you to write a role for him? If you’re David Caspe and Adam Pally, you think quickly.
The duo — who first worked together on the cult ABC sitcom “Happy Endings,” created by Caspe and starring Pally as Max Blum, a disheveled gay man making ends meet as an unlicensed limousine driver while mooching off his ensemble of Chicago friends — never expected to find themselves writing a mockmentary about Steph Curry. But when the Golden State Warriors star teamed up with his wife Ayesha Curry to host the game show “About Last Night” on what was then called HBO Max in 2022, their comedic fates changed forever.
Each episode of the show featured different celebrity couples answering embarrassing questions about each other, and both Pally and Caspe appeared as guests along with their respective partners. They...

As an athlete, Stephen Curry is, apparently, very good. As a TV producer, his track record is mixed, comprising both dizzying highs (I will never stop waiting for more Holey Moley) and shocking lows. As an actor, his talents probably hit their ceiling with his TV commercials for Subway or Cars.com, but when you’re rich and powerful, no one can really stop you from selling Peacock a mockumentary in which you play yourself, no matter how unimpressive you are in the role. Fortunately, Mr. Throwback is very good — so good, in fact, that my harshest criticism of this show about Steph Curry is that it apparently had to star Steph Curry.
The show’s Steph has a lot in common with the one we know: He’s a talented and dominant NBA player who grew up in Charlotte and whose father preceded him in the league; he has...

When Kobe Bryant returned to Philadelphia for his final game, one of the reporters at his press conference was Evan Monsky, Bryant’s former high school basketball teammate at Lower Merion. During the Q&a, Monsky asked Bryant to name the best point guard he ever played with and Bryant, without skipping a beat, saluted “Evan Monsky” as the best passer, before listing the Hall of Famers and All-Stars from his various NBA teams.
It was a good moment because it captured something extremely satisfying in dramatic terms: Every NBA superstar — every superstar in any sport — at some point in their life shared a roster with somebody who did not, in fact, become a superstar themselves. “The only premise I could ever really give to people for this show is it’s like if Christopher Guest directed ‘Uncut Gems,’” Adam Pally says, previewing his new series “Mr. Throwback.” The mockumentary show does have a similar shape to Josh and Benny Safdie’s modern crime classic: a so-sad, so-fucked-up Jewish businessman takes on life-threatening mob debts and, in a shameless act of survivalist drive, dogs an NBA star and extracts money from him through a bombardment of white lies.
Only in “Mr. Throwback,” Pally’s character, Danny Grossman, is a former basketball prodigy, the “Jewish Jordan” that once went “100 and 100”. Stephen Curry was his back-up in middle school. But Danny’s career ended early after his alcoholic father and coach (Tracy Letts) is caught in an elaborate lie. Two decades and a failed marriage later, an in-debt Danny is forced to follow in his old man’s footsteps,...

Ego Nwodim thinks that her “Mr. Throwback” co-star and NBA champion Stephen “Steph” Curry has the chops to be a phenomenal “Saturday Night Live” host.
And the star would know. Nwodim has appeared on the sketch-comedy series since 2018 and became an official cast member in 2022. After six years, the comedian shared the secret to what makes a successful host.
“The thing about Steph that would be perfect for SNL – it’s not only that he is obviously this phenomenal athlete everyone knows and loves – he’s also down to play, and he’s also a fan of the show. All these things lend themselves to being a good ‘SNL’ host,” the veteran castmember told TheWrap. “If I have any say in it, Steph should come host, for sure.”

Steph Curry is taking his shot in the world of comedies in the new Peacock mockumentary series Mr. Throwback. The show sees the NBA all-star play a version of himself, who reunites with his sixth-grade teammate Danny Grossman (Adam Pally). Danny has since taken some wrong turns, and as a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer, looks to his old bud for help. The cast also includes Ego Nwodim, a scene-stealer in the role of Kimberly. She knew Danny and Steph back in the day, rising up the corporate ladder to running Steph’s off-the-basketball court business. Ahead of the premiere, we caught up with EP and Curry’s Unanimous Media’s business partner on getting into the scripted game. How did the idea come together for you and Steph to step into the scripted comedy realm? Erick Peyton: I think it really is all about the show, the story. For us at Unanimous Media,...

The NBA season might be over, but a new Peacock comedy is giving one of the league's biggest stars a chance to show his comedic chops! Find out more about Mr. Throwback!
Few NBA stars are as huge as Steph Curry. Since debuting in 2009, Curry has become one of the greatest players of his generation, setting records in shooting, a ten-time All-Star and twice Mvp. He made the Golden State Warriors a dynasty, winning four NBA titles, setting the best regular season record in 2015-16 and Curry named 2022 Finals Mvp. He also has two Fiba World Cup gold medals and a sure lock for the Hall of Fame. He even has an Oscar for producing the short film The Queen of Basketball.

The trailer just dropped for Mr. Throwback, a new mockumentary series starring Happy Endings’ Adam Pally, Saturday Night Live’s Ego Nwodim and… The Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry?

Oh là là! Lady Gaga got the party started on Friday, performing Zizi Jeanmaire’s “Mon Truc en Plumes” along Paris’ famed River Seine during the Olympics Opening Ceremony.
In true Gaga fashion, the performance was gloriously over the top, complete with exaggerated choreography and more pink feathers than you could shake a dead Muppet at. (Not that we’d ever do that, of course.) According to Gaga, the pom poms were rented from a French cabaret theater called Le Lido, and she collaborated with Dior on the chic, custom costumes, which included naturally molted feathers.

"Ball don't lie. People do." Peacock has unveiled the first official trailer for a scripted fake doc comedy series called Mr. Throwback, from the creators of "Happy Endings", with episodes directed by filmmaker David Wain. When will America get its first presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and current Vice President Kamala Harris?
Trump, the Republican nominee, faced off against President Joe Biden on June 27, in a memorable debate that aired on CNN and instantly elevated concerns about Biden’s age and acuity. Despite being an NBA mega-star with the Golden State Warriors, Steph Curry is eager to show off his comedy chops in the trailer for Peacock’s Mr. Throwback, which was released on Wednesday.
Curry’s chance to play a comedy hero has come with the Universal Television mockumentary that marks his first scripted TV role and is set to premiere on Aug. 8.
Mr. Throwback
The comedy sees Adam Pally as Danny Grossman, a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer who looks for redemption by reuniting with his sixth-grade teammate, basketball legend Curry, who plays himself on screen.
In Mr. Throwback, Curry aims to help his middle school buddy get redemption. “Let’s do a documentary on it,” he says at one point in the trailer. That has the former school buddies joyously traveling on Curry’s private jet and sharing pre-game horse placenta drinks, called “placenta-ritas.”
