This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
The fifth episode of X-Men ’97 presents a major change in the status quo for mutankind, climaxing with an attack on the nation of Genosha and the deaths of several major characters. But the most consequential event may be what happens just before the attack begins.
The first half of “Remember It” plays like a reprieve for the X-Men, as they visit a radically different Genosha from the one they previously saw on X-Men: The Animated Series. Once an apartheid nation built on mutant oppression, Genosha has become a haven for mutants, allowing them to celebrate their culture. The climax of the celebration occurs in the Hellfire Gala, a ball designed to inaugurate Magneto and Rogue as the new leaders.
The party ends on a horrible note when the Master Mold arrives to wreak havoc. But just before his arrival, obscured by the fireworks in the sky,...

The second season of What If? has been dropped by Marvel Studios in a year that has seen both the rise and fall of the MCU. The final Guardians of the Galaxy and the second season of Loki were absolute triumphs, while the rest was pretty much a let down. I’m not even going to go into the Jonathan Major fiasco, but that must have hurt the MCU, and the future of this thing doesn’t look too bright. Considering all these, it was essential for Marvel to wrap up this year strong, and the good news is that What If? has been quite successful in doing that. With the anthology format, it was a given that some of the episodes would not be that good, while others might just be extraordinary. And that’s exactly how it went. We’re going to rank the new batch of episodes...

The Watcher doesn’t usually revisit a story from the multiverse because of the vastness of these alternative realities. But in Episode 5 of What If? season 2, the Watcher narrated the story of Peggy Carter, who became the super soldier Captain America, instead of Steve Rogers. In this parallel universe, Captain Peggy Carter once again crossed paths with her lover, Steve, whom she knew to have died in 1953. However, Steve turned out to be living inside the armor of a Hydra Stomper, under the control of someone more sinister and powerful. Let’s find out who was mind-controlling Steve to eliminate the Avengers.
Spoilers Ahead
How Did Captain Carter Meet Hydra Stomper?
Episode 5 opened with the fight between the Avengers and Loki that we’ve previously seen in 2012’s movie, The Avengers. But instead of Captain Steve, there was Agent Carter, who was the Captain America of this universe. Captain Carter...

Marvel’s What If? Is back for a second series on Disney+ this December – and here’s the trailer to prove it…
What If? was a surprising, fun addition to the Marvel canon when it first landed on Disney+, perhaps because the sheer scale of storytelling possibilities is so huge.
Series one featured scenarios as wide ranging as Peggy Carter becoming the First Avenger and T’Challa becoming a Star Lord, to examining what might have happened if artificially-intelligent supervillain Ultron hadn’t been defeated by those pesky Avengers. It doesn’t look like the next run of the show will be pulling its punches either.
Promotion is underway for it now, and we now have a synopsis for the second series. It doesn’t tell us much, but nevertheless reads as follows:
Season 2 of Marvel Studios’ imaginative and captivating “What If…?” series continues the journey as The Watcher guides viewers again through the vast multiverse,...

Loki has been on a journey. From would-be royal assassin and usurper, to attempted Earth conqueror, to redemption, to death, to that death turning out to be fake, to a second redemptive arc, to actual death, all the way back to attempted Earth conqueror again, and then, finally, along one last redemptive arc in season one of the Disney+ series, Loki.
But there is always a challenge when a character shifts from villain to antihero to straight-up hero. Part of Loki’s appeal has always been that he is a loveable bastard. So now that Loki has gone full hero, where is there for him to go next?
“Loki has clearly changed over the course of that first season, and he knows he’s changed,” says Kevin Wright, co-executive producer on Loki seasons one and two.

After the massive weekend success of Sony Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, many rival studios are looking at executing their comic book IP differently on the big screen. Quite often, animated superhero projects are released directly to the home (think Warner Bros-dc’s myriad superhero toon movies like 2010’s Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam and Disney+/Marvel Studios’ avant-garde series What If?). Leave it to the guys who bedazzled many with the near half-billion grossing The Lego Movie, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, to revolutionize the family animated genre once again.
On today’s episode of Crew Call, we talk with the writers and producers of Across the Spider-Verse on one-upping the animated style from their first movie, the Oscar winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; juggling a slew of projects via their production shingle Lord Miller; their next live-action feature directorial; and their thoughts on what AMPTP needs to do to end this WGA strike.
Says Lord, “The thing to keep in mind which is simple to understand is that writers pay is down 25% and budgets are up and executive compensation is up. It’s not sustainable that way. I think a fair deal is absolutely within reach.”
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse nabbed the best opening of summer to date at $120.6M stateside, the third-best-ever domestic opening for a Spider-Man film, with an overall global start of $209M.

Disney’s presentation Thursday to its investors wasn’t just a rundown of how great things are for the company, now that its acquisition of Fox has been completed. It was the most illuminating glimpse yet into what it will mean to watch television in the not-too-distant future — a future ruled over by dedicated brand platforms, as opposed to that antiquated notion of “channels.”
Enter Disney+, which will be available in the Us November 12 for $6.99/mo ($69.99 a year). Confirmed to be an ad-free subscription model, the streaming service is poised to be the first major dedicated studio platform, bringing together the major Disney brands, including Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel, under one family-friendly umbrella. As Disney exec Kevin Mayer said, the plan is to draw upon the “deep emotional connection” that fans have with these properties.
A family-friendly approach is rumored to be the case for Apple+ original series as well.

The details of Avengers: Endgame have been kept extremely secret, but Marvel boss Kevin Feige gave Disney Investor Day a glimpse of the April 26-opening movie today.
“Thanos spent a long time trying to perfect me,” says the Karen Gillian played Nebula to the members of the team that survived the snap from last year’s Infinity War that killed off half the Universe.
As Chris Evans’ Captain America, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Don Cheadle’s War Machine, and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner plus the Bradley Cooper voiced Rocket Raccoon and newbie Captain Marvel, portrayed by Brie Larson listen, the clip goes on to see the adopted daughter of the Josh Brolin supervillian detail how they might be able to track down and snare Thanos in deceptively named “the garden.”
“That’s cute, Thanos has a retirement plan,” mocks Cheadle’s character, dismissing Nebula...

Cannes — Playing Official Competition at Canneseries, “Studio Tarara’ protagonist Ricki Boelsens, late 40s but with a hugely lived-in face, looks at himself in the mirror. There’s a poster of him as a young man starring in King Lear. Now he’s just checked out of hospital after a drink and cocaine bender at a party on studio comedy sketch show “Studio Tarara.” He can hardly remember his lines.
So is he the dead person who jumped or was pushed off the studio roof prompting the grainy bluish-noir nighttime scenes of shocked studio employees which begins every episode of the show?
Details of the victim’s identity are teased to the audience in Flemish series “Studio Tatara,” along with Ricki’s descent into hell as he’s replaced on the show by another actor, part of a more general spiral of self-destruction. Ricky’s addicted to alcohol and drugs – – fellow-comedian Sandra to sex.
