A black woman named Louise enters a pawn shop to pawn something. The man will not accept it but he wants her dress. She does not have much money so she goes to take it off and exchange it for something he gave her to wear. He is like a pervert trying to see her change with the curtain closed.
Men enter the shop, rob him and kill him. The lady runs out scared to death. She sees them but is afraid to talk. There are about 3 men they chase her into an alley and stab her.
During the mean time two prisoners are found dead in their cell. One looks like suicide but it is murder and the other inmate was stabbed to death. The cells are awful. The only friend the prisoners have is a former prisoner that was rehabilitated and wants to help other inmates.
Inspector Brackenreid was the friend of one of the prisoners that he had served in the service with and was a hero so he takes his death personally. Later it is discovered the two inmates deaths are related.
Murdoch finds out this is an inside job and someone that knows the prisoners is making money and has a way for them to get in and out of the prison.
Dr Ogden helps Louise who cannot walk from fear and not a physical injury.
This episode is interesting but very violent especially when Brackenreid beats up a suspect.
The Victoria Cross is a military decoration for valor and Brackenreid feels the murdered prisoner who was his friend should have it and keep it for his service in the war.
