Frantic and Enticing

One thing about Midge that could be a weakness: though she is spontaneous and quick with words, this can be incredibly debilitating. If she got involved with injustice, she wouldn't know when to stop. The scene on the luxury boat is an example. She rightfully confronts a jerk who is assaulting a waitress. But she doesn't stop, possibly ruining her future. That's what makes her a really cool character. She is train of consciousness personified and that is her strength. But it doesn't allow her to play the show business game. The wedding scene, by the way, amazing as all the participants begin to think only of themselves as the bride and groom exchange vows.

The Show Thrives When It Focuses On Midge, Susie, and Comedy

Warning: Spoilers
I was pretty nervous to tune in this week after a disappointing episode prior, especially after a strong start with the first three. Granted, it set up story lines coming forth but there was wasted minutes on broadway and spectacle that didn't feel necessary for a show on its final backstretch.

This episode was an improvement with the only blemish being Zelda's wedding. It's a sequence the Maisel writers just can't seem to get away from, making the parents and in-laws completely obnoxious with forced humor during a gleaming moment for someone else's life, who's done so much for them. At least Zelda has a happy ending.

As far as Joel goes with the flash forward, it's probably no surprise he'll get in some trouble with the mobsters, but he'll also always love Midge. I do really enjoy Michael Zegen in every scene he's in so I'm engaged with his story.

Susie is a force to be wrecking with. Work is overflowing and she's accomplishing what she's always set out to do from the start. The scenes with her associates and other clients were well done with Alex Borstein leading the way with the humorous moments and banter.

Midge was better this episode. The boat scene and everything after with stand up and scenes with Gordon Ford gave me a sigh of relief especially after seeing her asleep in the first scene of present day. I just wish the writers knew in the beginning if Midge is a good person or not throughout this struggle for stardom. We know she isn't in the flash forwards, but will there be a push come to shove scenario in present day in future episodes?

We will find out. 9/10.

When you're a professional piraaaaaaate!

The episode was great, though I have caught myself wondering where this season is headed. We've been disappointed by fan fav shows in the past. We've had our hopes high before, only to see them dashed painfully episode by episode. Maybe we've come to except to be disappointed when a show finally makes its farewell season. But after this episode, I've become more hopeful that this season will end delightfully well. I may be able to proudly rewatch this show, enjoying it again year by year as the subtle nuances I missed in previous watchings season themselves anew. But above all else, the inclusion of the aforementioned "when you're a professional piraaaaaaate" will for this reviewer, reign supreme as the greatest episode of all time. I was raised on that movie, on Tim Curry's "this is my only number", and am hopeful, more than a show has ever made me feel before, that Mrs Maisel will end its run with a bounty of booty! Arghh!
