Unless she recycles them or is renting them, Tascioni has way too many tote bags to fit in her tiny apartment: every week, in a global warming-defeating move, she is carrying 3 new, never-before-seen, bags. This accessory fast-fashion is not sustainable, and not very green of Elsbeth. Plus, it deprives viewers of seeing the prettiest ones.

Tascioni regularly shows up at crime scenes with 3 tote bags. It is unclear why; they're not for comic relief: she has never once spilled contents. They're not for beauty: their designs are never really shown; as they are stacked on top of each other, viewers can't really make out what's printed on them. They're not for OCD purposes: she has never taken out a cardigan or an asthma inhaler nor pills or anything that would warrant the lugging around of 3 totes. By season 2, she's no longer a newcomer hauling her stuff around like a bag lady, so at this point, they're more annoying than quirky, more preposterous to a viewer than endearing.
