When Gunn & Safran assumed leadership roles as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studio, they unveiled plans for a comprehensive revamp of the old Dceu, introducing a multitude of projects spanning live-action films, television series, and animated shows.
While several projects are currently in production, including the highly anticipated ‘Superman’ slated for a 2025 release and ‘Creature Commandos,’ the inaugural project under the newly established Dcu label, one project that has received relatively little attention is the upcoming ‘Booster Gold’ TV Show, centered around the titular hero. However, it appears that this will soon change, as the show has received a significant production update.
As per the Production List, the show is slated to commence production on July 8, 2024, just a few weeks from now. This suggests that DC Studio has likely secured its Booster Gold. Apart from this detail, the production listing is rather limited, which is typical for projects of similar magnitude.

A first look at Creature Commandos is right around the corner, Superman is still shooting, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow should begin production later this year. Oh, and work on Peacemaker season 2 is also well underway.
The new Dcu is rapidly taking shape and it's looking increasingly likely Max's Lanterns will be next to reveal its cast and creative team.
It's previously been reported that DC Studios has enlisted Chris Mundy (a writer and producer for Criminal Minds) as Lanterns' showrunner, and scooper @MyTimeToShineH is today claiming that comic book writer Tom King is a co-writer on the show.
We know he's part of Gunn's Dcu braintrust and penned the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series the movie is named after and based on. He also counts the likes of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Mister Miracle among his many DC Comics credits.

James Gunn has a lot planned for the DC Universe, and a significant weight of it seems to lie in his upcoming animated series, Creature Commandos. There has been a lot of conversation around this seemingly minuscule series, which also happens to be setting up some of the most significant storylines in DC’s near future.
James Gunn’s Creature Commandos
One of the most unfortunate deaths in recent years has to have been that of Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag. It would seem that this painful wound is being ripped open again, as Flag’s father, Rick Flag Sr., is making his way into the franchise.
While many would be excited solely based on this news, it would seem that the character is entering the universe with one goal; revenge. Could Amanda Waller help Flag Sr. kill his son’s killer?

A big change is happening as ‘Peacemaker’ moves from Dceu to the new Dcu. Season 2 is in the works and will be part of Dcu canon. Gunn assures fans the shift won’t be confusing and aims for a smooth transition between Dceu and Dcu, especially for ‘Peacemaker’.
Now, Gunn takes it a step further by linking the forthcoming ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 with the much-anticipated animated project ‘Creature Commandos,’ set for release this year.
Frank Grillo has been chosen to portray Rick Flag Sr. in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, following his prior confirmation to voice the character in the animated series. This mirrors Gunn’s earlier statement during the Dcu presentation, expressing his desire for voice actors to also appear in live-action roles.
Rick Flag Sr. was once the leader of the Suicide Squadron during WWII. This group, made up of criminals, was sent on perilous missions. Flag Sr. instilled discipline in them and led them successfully.

One need only look at James Gunn to realize that not all good things in life come in the form of blessings and opportunities. Some of them appear in a red, white, and blue costumed dysfunctional superhero who vows to bring peace to the world, even if he has to kill every man, woman, and child for it. John Cena’s iconic Peacemaker returns to Dcu to get what he wants, even with James Gunn standing in his way.

Marvel actor and all-around badass Frank Grillo is trading his crossbones for stars and stripes after joining the cast of Peacemaker Season 2 for DC. Grillo is lacing up his boots to play Rick Flag Sr. for the sophomore season of James Gunn’s superhero series, starring John Cena as Christopher “Chris” Smith, aka Peacemaker. Rick Flag Sr. is the father of Rick Flag Jr., played by Joel Kinnaman in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Cena’s Peacemaker killed Rick Flag Jr. in The Suicide Squad, leading me to think it’s time for revenge.
Before Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. appears in Peacemaker Season 2, he’ll debut in animated form in the upcoming Max series Creature Commandos. The monster-centric animated series revolves around a black ops team working for Viola Davis’s Amanda Waller.

Frank Grillo was sorely underutilised in the MCU. After first playing Brock Rumlow for a memorable supporting turn in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he returned as Crossbones in Captain America: Civil War...and immediately died.
The actor got a cameo in Avengers: Endgame and has lent his voice to What If...?, but it's looking like he'll have much more to do in the Dcu.
After being cast as Rick Flag Sr. in DC Studios' animated Creature Commandos, it's been confirmed today that Grillo will make the leap to live-action and reprise the role in Peacemaker season 2.
"Pleased to announce the great [Frank Grillo] will be reprising the role of Rick Flag, Sr - the role he’ll first play in animated form in 'Creature Commando's - throughout Season 2 of 'Peacemaker,'" DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn said on Instagram. "Christopher Smith and Rick Sr have a little unfinished business to take care of.

Since Gunn & Safran assumed control of the Dceu and rebranded it as the Dcu, a significant faction of fans who appreciated Snyder’s vision has been discontent. Gunn faces ongoing criticism and is frequently compelled to justify a movie that has yet to be completed or released.

When Black Adam finally brought Henry Cavill back, fans were ecstatic to see Dceu’s Superman return, but unfortunately, the movie itself failed to make it big at the box office. Shortly after, Wbd hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to salvage the DC brand, which led to the duo scrapping the struggling Dceu in favor of a fresh start.
While many would agree DC desperately needed this reboot, some fans were disheartened following Henry Cavill’s exit, as Gunn opted for a younger actor to play Dcu’s version of Clark Kent. ‘X-Men ’97’ has been a big hit. People love how it stays true to the original while feeling fresh with modern storytelling and animation. Ratings have been high since day one, leading to a season 2 renewal and plans for season 3. Marvel seems keen on keeping it going strong for as long as they can.
It’s really refreshing, especially after a string of disappointments for the studio. That’s why they’ve switched gears, focusing more on animated stuff down the road. People are into it, and it’s not getting old like some superhero stuff does. Even James Gunn is on board with that.
Recently, he was asked on Threads what he thinks about the show. He replied that it’s enjoyable and one-of-a-kind, but he doesn’t intend to copy it for his own approach with Dcu. His reasoning seems sensible.

In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran introduced their rebooted universe named Dcu, unveiling a comprehensive lineup of projects. The most recent release in the Dceu was ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ last year, which achieved some success, especially compared to many MCU films from that year that struggled with critics and box office performance.
In January, Gunn and Safran revealed the initial projects of the Dcu lineup and announced the team of writers responsible for crafting the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King. They outlined a plan spanning eight to ten years, divided into “chapters,” with potential for further expansion. The first chapter, ‘Gods and Monsters,’ featured films like ‘Superman’ (originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy’), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing,’ alongside television series such as ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster Gold....

Following the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the DC Universe (Dcu) has officially taken over from the DC Extended Universe (Dceu). Now, some of the most iconic characters in comic history are under the direction of Safran and Gunn. The Dcu is set to kick off with the animated show ‘Creature Commandos.’ However, the live-action aspect of this cinematic universe will begin with the release of ‘Superman,’ which both Safran and Gunn consider to be the true start of the Dcu. Several other projects are confirmed to be in development, including ‘The Authority,’ focusing on the team of the same name, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ starring Milly Alcock as Dcu’s Supergirl, and ‘Paradise Lost,’ a TV show centered on Wonder Woman-related lore set on Themyscira.
While key roles like Superman, Lois Lane, and Supergirl have been cast, the identity of the live-action Batman in the Dcu remains unknown.

In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran introduced their own rebooted universe called Dcu, presenting a full lineup of projects. The latest movie in the Dceu was ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ which achieved some success compared to most MCU movies released that year, which faced criticism and struggled at the box office. In January, Gunn and Safran revealed the initial projects of the Dcu slate, along with the team of writers: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King.
They outlined a plan spanning eight to ten years, divided into chapters, with potential for expansion. The first chapter, ‘Gods and Monsters,’ included films like ‘Superman’ (originally ‘Superman: Legacy’), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing,’ as well as television series like ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster Gold.’

James Gunn has been active on social media, posting regular updates about the Dcu. He recently announced the beginning of filming of Superman and the casting of Milly Alcock as Supergirl. Besides the Superman and Supergirl films, one other project that audiences expect an update on is the announced The Authority project. With Teen Titans finally set to get the big screen treatment, it’s only right to assume that the upcoming film will take a page out of the 2003 show. Released during the peak of the Dcau on Cartoon Network, Teen Titans would eventually transcend the medium, becoming the best-animated show to ever hit the network.
And while fans will hope the upcoming live-action adaptation will take major inspiration from the show, its influences shouldn’t be limited to this adaptation alone. Considering the animation department is set to be a major driving force for the new universe, James Gunn and co. have the perfect template in Teen Titans to push the medium to new heights.
Dcu Should Take a Page Out of Teen Titans’ Production

Since its debut in 2003, Teen Titans has remained one of the best parts of the Dcau, which is saying a lot.

Earlier this month, word came out that James Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-heads of Warner Bros.' DC Studios, have hired screenwriter Ana Nogueira to pen the script for a live-action Teen Titans film that will be set within their planned interconnected DC Universe of film, television, and video games. This experiment kicks off with an animated series called "Creature Commandos" sometime in 2024, but begins in earnest with James Gunn's newly-retitled "Superman" live-action feature film in the summer of 2025.
This "Teen Titans" film will likely follow the exploits of young heroes like Robin, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire, and whether or not it falls into Gunn and Safran's planned first chapter of the Dcu -- a collection of films and shows that fall under an umbrella they've titled "Gods and Monsters" -- remains to be seen. A live-action adaptation of DC Comics’ Teen Titans is officially in the works for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Ana Nogueira is already on board to write the script. Nogueira, recognizable for acting roles in CW’s The Vampire Diaries and Starz’s Hightown, is also working on DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set to star Milly Alcock.
The announcement makes Teen Titans the first film added to the initial run of DC Universe productions Gunn revealed back in January 2023. It remains to be seen how or when it will slot into what’s being called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, but Gunn, Nogueria, and the DC team have plenty of options.
Made up of superhero “sidekicks,” the Teen Titans were originally introduced in 1964 in The Brave and the Bold #54. Founding members included Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, and Aqualad.

James Gunn has been filming for his upcoming Dcu film Superman in Svalbard, Norway. The filmmaker and DC Studios co-chief recently confirmed that a second season of the hit show Peacemaker will be filming soon and that he would be directing some episodes of the series as he was also working on Superman. Gunn also said that the spinoff series Waller was in development.
Gunn revealed that season one of Peacemaker was not canon to the Dcu as the shared universe only begins when the animated show Creature Commandos begins to air. The filmmaker mentioned that season two, however, would be canon to the Dcu and would take place after Superman, leading fans to be more confused about the timeline of the universe.

Do you really, do you really wanna taste it? Yes, we do! But where will that taste — that is, season two of Peacemaker — land in the DC Universe timeline? That was one of the biggest questions when it was announced that the Dcu would be replacing the Dceu. But James Gunn has stepped in to clear up any confusion…even if it still might be a little unclear just how it will all eventually come together.
James Gunn took to Threads — as he has grown quite fond of — to address where season two of Peacemaker sits in the evolving DC Universe, writing that it “will take place after the events in Superman.” It’s absolutely also worth noting that Gunn said that season one — which was released in 2022 and so part of the Dceu — is not canon in the Dcu. Got it? Good, moving on!

When ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ came out, the Dceu was wrapped up and Gunn and Safran’s Dcu took its place. For a long time, we’ve known that the Dcu will follow the MCU’s lead, organizing its movies into phases or “chapters.” The first chapter in the Dcu is called ‘Gods & Monsters.’ The first release in ‘Gods & Monsters’ will be ‘Creature Commandos,’ but Gunn has said ‘Superman: Legacy’ will actually kick off the new Dcu unofficially.

Clearly, ‘Creature Commandos’ has to be finished first so it can come out before ‘Superman.’ But for the other projects, Gunn recently shared on ‘Threads’ a new schedule for the projects coming after the Superman movie. The latest news is that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 will be filmed at the same time as ‘Superman,’ and ‘Waller’ will start right after that. Gunn also...

Frank Grillo, who played a tough villain in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, is asking Marvel’s co-president, Louis D’Esposito, for a favor. He wants his character, Crossbones, back in the Marvel movies before he gets too old. The 58-year-old knows time is ticking, so he’s keen to jump back into the role while he still can.

But hold up, he’s also gearing up to voice Rick Flag Sr. in the new Creature Commandos cartoon series. Grillo’s caught between old and new gigs, showing how actors connect with their characters. It’s a tricky balance, juggling different worlds in Hollywood.

Gunn and Safran are pushing forward with their revamped Dcu, with several projects currently in the works. One notable project is ‘Superman,’ which recently began filming in Atlanta. Another significant project, ‘Peacemaker,’ was confirmed to be part of the Dcu, with Season 2 already in development. Gunn assured fans that the transition between Dceu and Dcu, at least concerning ‘Peacemaker,’ will be smooth and clear. Gunn also announced that Season 2 of ‘Peacemaker’ is fully written and will receive more attention after ‘Superman’ wraps filming. Recent rumors suggest that filming for ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 and the upcoming show ‘Waller’ may happen concurrently in 2024, based on information shared by Daniel Richtman on his private Patreon.

Gunn’s and Safran’s newly revamped Dcu is going full steam ahead, as several projects are currently in development, most notably ‘Superman,’ which only recently started filming in Atlanta. One notable project that was retroactively stated to be a part of the Dcu is Gunn’s ‘Peacemaker.’ ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was already confirmed to be in development when Gunn clarified that the show will be canon to the Dcu and that he will make it work in a way that is not confusing for the fans at all, and that the transition between Dceu and Dcu at least as far as ‘Peacemaker’ is concerned will be as smooth as possible.
Back in February of this year, Gunn announced that the second season of the show is fully written, and after ‘Superman’ finished filming, it’s going to get more of his attention. Now, according to the most recent rumors shared...

It’s been a while since Gunn and Safran took over what used to be called Dceu and changed it to Dcu. More than a year ago, they shared their plans for ‘Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters.’ In January 2023, the DC movie universe was described as getting a big change, but not a complete reboot, with plans for a story that will last for many years.
James Gunn and Peter Safran talked about the first projects of this new plan on January 31. They said who the writers were working on the big story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson (who wrote ‘The Flash’), Christal Henry, and comic book writer Tom King. The idea was to split the stories into parts, with the first one being ‘Gods and Monsters.’ This part had five movies: ‘Superman’ (2025), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing.’
