The term "65 roses" was coined in the late 1960s by a four-year-old boy with cystic fibrosis who misunderstood what his mother said while making phone calls to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The term has since become a registered trademark of the CF Foundation, which adopted the rose as its symbol.
