Benjamin Daniels's corpse floats at sea, drawn after a blunt blow on the head. His sailing yacht is found, but the dingy is missing, perhaps stolen by the killer. Daniels was to meet on the previous evening contractor Thomas Kofahl, who sold him the yacht due to firm trouble but wasn't properly paid and whose alibi, a Polish business meeting, falls through. Benjamin's sister has her own secrets.
