In this film the sex scenes, like the fight scenes, are very realistic. "A love and erotic relationship is much less complicated to write than to play," director Jacques Doillon explained. "Sara [Forestier] didn't have any difficulties on that side, James [Thierrée], on the other hand, had very classic male modesty. We struggled a bit with this but we found a very satisfactory compromise. I didn't want to make a hard film but I wanted it to be bolder than usual. In the long run, it became almost deceptive not to show that this part can have a good life... It was a question of making a film with head and heart, and ass too."
