After watching so many K-dramas (the word "many" is used because I just stopped counting after the 20 mark), I came to a very specific conclusion: if you need to feel something love-related, the best way is to turn to any South Korean romantic comedy or drama.
The thing is, some K-dramas just feel so relatable, or just so realistic, that you start believing everything you see on screen, even though you know it's just a script written by some imaginative professional.
So, having been burned many times, I have created my own list of K-dramas to watch whenever I feel my faith in love is fading. So here they are, South Korean shows that will heal your aching soul and actually prove that "don't stop believing" is good advice.

Sometimes, falling from grace is the best thing that can happen to you — if you have the right attitude, that is. International K-Drama Day: From The Glory 2 To Moving Top 10 Must-Watch Korean Shows Of 2023 ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Korean dramas have provided a safe and comforting space to the audience over the years. Contrary to popular belief, K-dramas are not just about cliched romantic comedies, though there is nothing wrong with that, but also teach us many life lessons along the way. If K-fanatics are to be believed, 2023 has proved to be one fruitful year, with many heartwarming shows providing a feeling of contentment this year.
While K-dramas have been around for quite some time now, it wasn’t until a few years ago that Netflix, Viki, Disney+ Hotstar, and Prime Videos, among other streaming spaces, began streaming Korean shows, opening up a new dimension for global viewers. In 2023, all of these Ott giants have done a commendable job of delivering some top-notch K-dramas that have managed to swoon every drama lover out there.

If you ask people what their favorite movie endings are, they will most likely tell you an ending that has some sort of big twist, a big set piece, or a major display of emotional catharsis, be it the two lovers deciding to be together or them opting for a painful, tear-filled goodbye. However, sometimes it is the quietest endings that can be the most impactful, where restraint is the only way to properly convey what the filmmaker wants to get across. One of my favorite endings of all time — William Wyler's "Roman Holiday" — uses this tactic to perfection. It sets up with nearly two hours of a buoyant, lovely romance between Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, and in the final scene, their separation cannot be addressed in the public forum in which it is set, meaning their bittersweet parting can only de done through glances and innuendo.

It is abundantly clear that the noir genre is making a huge comeback in the Asian market. Just last week, we saw Lost in the Stars, the Chinese film, come to Netflix with a similar influence. The action genre itself has had a renaissance this year, with John Wick coming back and a remake of the classic South Korean revenge thriller Oldboy. It’s always fantastic to see a female-driven action film, especially when she defies all laws of physics and is absolutely badass. In this oversaturated world of revenge thrillers, Ballerina sticks out like a radiant gem. We can’t go without comparing the beauty of this film to an actual ballet, with scenes of pastel colors and dream-like sequences that make everything look a little less deranged and much more peachy. It is a jarring contrast with the commitment the film has to violence and the race against evil.

The Netflix and tvN K-drama Alchemy of Souls switched their female leads from Jung So-min to Go Yoon-jung. The second half of the storyline required Go to return to her role as Nak-su, as her character sparked a love story with Jang Uk. Actor Lee Jae-wook starred as Jang Uk alongside Go for Alchemy of Souls Season 2. Their on-screen chemistry was impeccable, and the actor had blush-worthy praise for his co-star.
Go Yoon-jung and Lee Jae-wook in ‘Alchemy of Souls’ Season 2 | via tvN Lee Jae-wook had no problem with the change in the female lead for ‘Alchemy of Souls’
In the first season of the K-drama, Jung So-min played multiple roles. She played the consciousness of Nak-su while portraying herself as the character Mu-deok. While the storyline unraveled, she also played the long-lost Jin daughter and priestess, Bu-yeon. Fans were blown away by Jung’s capabilities and her on-screen relationship with Lee Jae-wook.

When it comes to celebrities, even Korean actors, knowing too much can be a problem. Actor Kim Ji-hoon has appeared in many K-dramas recently, from Money Hiest: Korea, First Seven Kisses, and played a heinous villain in Flower of Evil. But Kim Ji-hoon recently made waves in Netflix’s Love to Hate You. Beyond his dashing good looks, fans learned he has a peculiar habit with his clothes.

The 2023 romance breaks free of some well-known K-drama tropes with a few gender swaps. Kim Ok-vin starred as Yeo Mi-ran, a lawyer who dislikes men’s egos and superiority complex. She is not the damsel in distress as she is skilled in multiple fighting techniques, a bit fearful of her feelings, and a do-it-all herself type of woman.

What makes for a good stress-free rom-com K-drama? Fans have seen their fair share of romantic storylines with comedic elements, but there is one troped they often have in common. The main characters face turmoil through an intense murder case or severe scandal. Netflix’s Crash Course in Romance is a prime example of a rom-com that is not stress-free. Sometimes, fans want a smooth-sailing K-drama full of fun, swoon-worthy moments, and no extra drama.

Netflix Top 10 (Week of February 13): ‘You’ and ‘Your Place or Mine’ remain atop charts for 2nd week
Netflix has released the Top 10 viewing numbers for the week of February 13, and without any new high-profile releases last week, the charts mostly remained the same as last time. Penn Badgley’s series “You” and the Reese Withspoon-Ashton Kutcher rom-com “Your Place or Mine” did well again, the latter presumably helped by Valentine’s Day last Tuesday.
The fourth season of “You” ended up in the Top 10 in 88 countries with 64.1 million hours viewed, down from 92 million views its launch week with the first five episodes having 38 million views. The first and third seasons also continue to be watched with 22.4 million and 15.6 million hours, respectively.
By comparison, “Your Place or Mine” increased its views to 52.8 million hours vs. the previous week’s 51.2 million views. Again, the romantic comedy from “The Devil Wears Prada” scribe Aline Brosh McKenna probably got a nice bump from V-Day. Other movies returning to the...

Crash Course in Romance is a South Korean series directed by Yoo Je-won. A funny series that comes to us from South Korea, starring Jeon Do-Yeon and Jung Kyung-ho.
Crash Course in Romance is a series that manages to combine romantic comedy with a more classic and physical comedy based in ingenious dialogue. Briefly, more comedy and crazy situations than in a normal romantic comedy.
Crash Course in Romance (2023)
As happens in Love To Hate You, Crash Course in Romance is a series that, if you like this kind of humor that borders the absurd, will entertain you.

Love to Hate You is a series directed by Kim Jung-kwon starring Kim Ok-bin and Yoo Teo.
Love To Hate You is a comedy that takes on romantic comedies to end up being a romantic comedy… but it does so gracefully and knows how to laugh at clichés and gender stereotypes.
Deep down, this is the usual, but done in a good way and with two lead actors that are close and clumsy it is impossible to not love.
It is not at all a Hollywood comedy, this series knows how to laugh at that and re-interpret in Korean style a genre we believed had little left to offer. Love is in the air on Netflix in February, from new romcoms like the Reese Witherspoon-starring “Your Place or Mine” to the return of murderous stalker Joe Goldberg in “You” Season 2 part 1.
Penn Badgley has long dispelled any misnomers of his “You” character being a romantic, but Joe himself still believes that’s who he is at his core. After killing his wife and faking his own death, Joe sets off for Europe so he can find Marianne (Tati Gabrielle), the woman he convinced himself he’s in love with before she learned the truth and fled. But breaking old habits has never been easy for old Joe, who quickly gets caught up in a most dubious clique of London high society that has its own struggles with lust, power, and the occasionally fatal crime.
