Ensign Pavel Chekov, played by Walter Koenig, first appeared in the "Star Trek" episode "Catspaw", the first episode of the show's second season. The appearance of a forthrightly Russian character, and a hero at that, communicated to Trekkies that the Cold War of the 1960s was not only over but that Russians would now be working in harmony with American characters like Captain Kirk (born in Iowa) and Dr. McCoy. In the role, Koenig brought a great deal of energy and humor, happy to interject into formal conversations to point out that Russians actually founded most of the Earth's most important innovations. Although already 30, Koenig also communicated a youthful energy, serving as a vital counterpoint to the judicious commanding officers on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
Koenig has remained loyal to "Star Trek," having appeared in 36 episodes of the original series and in eight feature films (a picture of him...

Created in 1978 by Glen A. Larson, the original Battlestar Galactica featured a great cast. Though the show only ran for a single season, the original series of Battlestar Galactica earned two Primetime Emmys and a People’s Choice Award in 1979 after its short run.
It also laid the groundwork for the 2004 reboot starring Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, which was similarly critically acclaimed and remains one of the most beloved sci-fi series in TV history.

Nichelle Nichols is about to retire from acting forever, but her final project will be a time-and-space-spanning adventure that will find her co-starring alongside a new actor, Loren Lott, playing her younger self. But, Lott is not playing a younger version of Nyota Uhura from Star Trek, but instead, a new sci-fi anti-hero called Ominara.
“What would Uhura’s character be like in the Mirror, Mirror universe?” Frank Zanca, producer of Renegades: Ominara tells Den of Geek. “Because Nichelle has Alzheimer’s and is retiring, we kind of wanted to do a send-off. Instead of Uhura, it’s Ominara, and she’s the captain of her own ship. She’s built herself into a pirate. And Nichelle is playing her older version, and she’s like the head of the underworld at that point in the future.”
Confused? Is Renegades: Ominara a Star Trek thing or what? The short answer is no.

“Star Trek: Renegades” has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for additional episodes after the success of the pilot. Set a decade after Voyager’s return from Delta Quadrant, “Renegades” follows a team of fugitives who are secretly working for the head of Starfleet intelligence, Admiral Pavel Chekov (“Star Trek: Tos” star Walter Koenig) and Tuvok (“Voyager” star Tim Russ) to root out internal corruption within the Federation as well as external threats. 65 million years in the making, Jurassic Park is still as popular today as it was 22 years ago. Despite two sequels that provided diminishing – though far from terrible – financial returns in 1997 and 2001, the franchise came roaring back to life this summer with Jurassic World, the staggering success of which proved that the world still very much holds the series dear all these years later.
With another sequel on the way for 2018, the future of the franchise is brighter than ever, but for years all us fans had to tide us over was the original trilogy. Between Jurassic Park, The Lost World and Jurassic Park III, many cast members have come and gone from the series, their characters taking part in numerous unforgettable and iconic moments that we’ll never forget even as time continues to push them further into the past.

Forget your $250 million budgets and A-list megastars, sometimes all you need to make a good film is a bit of creative thinking and passion for your characters (intellectual property rights optional).
With feature-length fan film Star Trek: Renegades setting fandom abuzz, here's a host of unauthorised movies that put Hollywood to shame.
1. Batman battles Predator
Back in the Dark Knight's movie wilderness years (thanks for that, George Clooney!), short Batman: Dead End made waves online thanks to a mega-twist that saw the Caped Crusader in a rain-soaked showdown against a Predator. If it bleeds, Batman can kill it.
2. A Judge gets back in the saddle
A tepid box office showing from 2012's Dredd means a sequel is probably never going to happen. However, hardcore fans had their thirst quenched by the moody Judge Minty, about an ageing Mega City One Judge striding through the Cursed Earth. Think of this as...

Ever wondered what happened after Voyager in the Star Trek universe? A new movie explores just that, except it's not official in any way.
Star Trek: Renegades has been released in its entirety on YouTube today (August 24), following a crowdfunded campaign back in 2013. Is it any good? Take a look for yourself:
Yeah... it's not exactly Into Darkness. The project is essentially fan fiction shot on a shoestring budget with a huge amount of greenscreen. Still, die-hard Star Trek fans will no doubt love seeing some of their favourites back.
Although it is not official Star Trek canon, it does feature several characters and actors from the original universe, including Walter Koenig as Pavel Chekov and Tim Russ as Voyager's Tuvok.
Richard Herd returns as Voyager's Owen Paris and Robert Picardo is back as Doctor Lewis Zimmerman.
And, most depressingly, Terminator 2 actor Edward Furlong also appears as a character named 'Fixer'.

“Star Trek: Renegades” will get its world premiere at the Crest Theater in Los Angeles on August 1, TheWrap has learned exclusively. The project is an independently produced TV pilot for a potential new “Star Trek” online series. In the film, The Federation’s main suppliers of dilithium crystals are disappearing. Space and time have folded around several planets, effectively isolating them from any contact with outside worlds, so Admiral Pavel Chekov (“Star Trek: Tos” star Walter Koenig), head of Starfleet Intelligence, turns to Commander Tuvok (“Star Trek: Voyager” star Tim Russ), Voyager’s former security officer and current head of the newly reorganized Section.

Star Trek is pretty much unique when it comes to fan-made movies and episodes that pay homage to the sci-fi series. Left alone by CBS and Paramount (as long as they don’t try to make money from them) fans build elaborate sets and even bring in recognisable Star Trek actors to produce work that is anything but amateur.
The latest hoping to go into production is Star Trek: Renegades, co-written by Jack Trevino and staring Walter Koenig, Tim Russ, Garrett Wang and Robert Picardo among others, names that will be familiar to any Star Trek fan.
Jack Trevino is no stranger to the world of Star Trek. Having written the hugely popular fan-made miniseries Star Trek: Of Gods And Men which stared a number of Star Trek actors including Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols. The series was awarded ‘Best Web Production 2008’ by SyFy Portal which is now Alpha Airlock.
