Universal and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions are getting set to unleash director Dev Patel’s Monkey Man, which has been earning rave reviews on the festival scene.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her SXSW review for Bloody Disgusting, “Monkey Man presents Dev Patel as a new action hero, a tenacious underdog with a penetrating stare who bites, bludgeons, and stabs his way through bodies to gloriously bloody excess. More excitingly, the film introduces Patel as a strong visionary right out of the gate.”
“Patel’s assured, audacious vision delivers an epic crowd-pleaser of mythic proportions,” Meagan’s 4.5 star rave review continues. “Run, don’t walk, to theaters for this one.”

James Bobin is in talks to direct Clue, the live-action feature adaptation of the Hasbro board game in the works at 20th Century Studios with Ryan Reynolds aboard. The Disney-run studio had previously been in talks with Jason Bateman to direct and act in the movie, but that is no longer the case.
Reynolds remains attached to Clue via his Maximum Effort production company, which is developing and producing with Hasbro’s film division Allspark Pictures. It also remains a possible starring vehicle for him.
Reynolds made a three-year producing deal at then-20th Century Fox in early 2019 off the success of the two Deadpool movies. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first Deadpool film, penned the script for Clue.
Bateman in December signed on to direct Shut In, the New Line thriller from first-time scribe Melanie Toast, moving on from Clue as it would have been too...

Exclusive: Fresh from winning the Emmy for Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series for Ozark, Jason Bateman has found his next feature film to direct. He’ll helm Shut In, the spec script by first time scribe Melanie Toast that New Line acquired in September.
Bateman had been developing to direct a film based on the Hasbro board game Clue, teaming with Ryan Reynolds at Fox/Disney. That project is still alive, but it would have been too much for Bateman to get it done and get back to his Netflix series. Then he found Shut In, a contained thriller he fell for quickly, and one that is a better fit for his schedule. They’re negotiating, but sources said that the film is on course for a production start in the first quarter of 2020.

The Blood List, an annual survey of Hollywood’s best unproduced horror scripts, has anointed a class of 2019 which includes an Olivia Wilde project, an extreme bodybuilding misadventure and a sinister trip to a luxury spa.
Now in its eleventh year, the list was created by Brillstein Partners manager and producer Kailey Marsh (Hulu’s “Light as a Feather”). Over 50 film and TV executives at the story editor level and above voted on this year’s crop of scripts, a mix of both features and pilots, in horror and subgenres like thriller, sci-fi and dark comedy. New Line Cinema has picked up a new script in a bidding war from a new screenwriter on the scene, Melanie Toast. The script is for a future film entitled Shut In. Deadline reports that the spec script is an “edgy thriller” with the following story:
“A single mother is held captive by her violent ex, and her two young children are left at risk. She must do everything to protect them and survive.”
The film will be produced by Dan Farah from Farah Films, Roy Lee at Vertigo, and Dallas Sonnier at Cinestate. Sonnier purchased the script from the Black List of scripts and was first prepared to finance the film independently until the script began gaining traction with Sonnier’s friend and fellow producer, Farah, who signed on to manage Toast and co-produce Shut In.
This sounds like it has potential to be an interesting film. What do you think?...

Screenwriter Christina Hodson has taken over to write a new script for DC’s “Batgirl” film, following the announcement that Joss Whedon is no longer attached to the project, Variety has learned.
This will mark Hodson’s return to the DC Extended Universe after writing for The WB series “Birds of Prey.” Hodson previously wrote the screenplay for horror film “Shut In” with Naomi Watts and Jacob Tremblay and the 2017 thriller “Unforgettable” starring Rosario Dawson. Hodson has also been tapped to write the script for “Bumblebee,” the upcoming “Transformers” spinoff with Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena.
Whedon exited the comic book movie in February, citing story issues. Whedon said in a statement, “’Batgirl’ is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story.”

Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton, two stars of Netflix's Stranger Things, are definitely a couple on screen. There have been hints, though, that Dyer and Heaton are into each other off screen, as well. The latest evidence came at a social event in London over the weekend, at which the pair showed up and posed for pictures together. They're not publicly admitting to a romance, but we're starting to think it's pretty obvious.

Stranger Things’ Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton continued to fuel romance rumors by stepping out together at the Burberry x Cara Delevingne Christmas bash in London on Saturday, December 2.
The pair posed for pictures in front of blue and magenta streams, which matched Dyer, who wore a funky magenta suede coat over a black-and-white polka dot outfit.

Movies like Wonder basically have “emotional button-pushing” baked into their very DNA. It’s the story of a young boy with facial disfigurement who is entering the fifth grade in a public school for the first time, trying to find friends, all while enduring the cruelties of other children. It has the obvious potential to be mawkish, sentimental pap—and god help us, we’re probably going to cry like newborn babies the second it starts, regardless of any cheap tactics, damn it all.
Still, there’s some hope for optimism here. It’s co-written and directed by Stephen Chbosky, the man behind the refreshingly blunt The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. It’s got solid talent like Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson as the parents, Daveed Diggs as a teacher, and suddenly omnipresent Jacob Tremblay (Room, Before I Wake, Shut In, The Book Of Henry, the forthcoming The Predator...

Naomi Watts would prefer her children just forget their mom’s a movie star.
The 48-year-old actress makes a leap to television with her new Netflix series Gypsy, in which she plays a therapist who gets fluid with her sexuality, addicted to meddling in her patients’ lives.
However, it’s a role she’d rather her sons — Samuel Kai, 8½, and Alexander “Sasha” Pete, 10 this month, whom she co-parents amicably with ex-partner Liev Schreiber — never streamed.
But Gypsy isn’t the exception. The roles Watts, who has previously portrayed a pregnant stripper and a torture victim, doesn’t want them to see are “most of them,...

But Gypsy isn’t the exception. The roles Watts, who has previously portrayed a pregnant stripper and a torture victim, doesn’t want them to see are “most of them,...

She’s one of our best working actresses, but the career of Naomi Watts has had ups and downs recently. In the plus category, there’s an Oscar-nominated turn in “The Impossible,” plus acclaimed turns in critical and commercial hits like “Birdman,” “St. Vincent” and “While We’re Young.” In the minus, though, there’s a thankless role in franchise fare “The Divergent Series,” and some disastrous smaller pictures like “Demolition,” “The Sea Of Trees” and horror movie “Shut In.”
But 2017 looks like it’ll be a good one for Watts fans: she’s in theaters twice this week in “3 Generations” and “Chuck,” has Colin Trevorrow’s “The Book Of Henry,” and has a meaty role alongside Woody Harrelson and Brie Larson in potential awards contender “The Glass Castle.” But the project that might have the biggest impact is, in a sign of the times, on the small screen, as...

Like it or not, Paramount is doubling down on the Transformers franchise. film fans may dislike the movies with a hot passion, but there’s no doubt that they make huge bank at the box office. As has frequently been reported by us here at Lrm, the studio went so far as to create a writers’ room to help ensure the series’ longevity. In this room that consisted of top tier talent, they went on to outline potential future stories for the franchise, and among these films was a spinoff for one of the most popular Autobots, Bumblebee.

Bumblebee is one of the more popular characters in the Transformers film franchise and Paramount Pictures has been developing a solo spinoff film for awhile now. There hasn't been much revealed regarding the story of this film, but now we know it will tell a prequel story. While talking to MTV, director Michael Bay confirmed:
"It'll go a little younger, and it will deal more with his character and it's just about him."
That sounds to me like Bumblebee will be the only Transformers character that we see in the film. Then when asked where the movie will fit into the timeline of the rest of the Transformers movie Bay said, "back." This is just the first solid information that we've learned about the Bumblebee movie.
They then went on to joke around about seeing a little younger digitized Shia Labeouf in the film, which obviously isn't going to happen,...

Travis Knight (above), who directed the animated adventure Kubo and the Two Strings to great critical and popular success, as well as two Academy Award nominations, will helm Bumblebee, according to Deadline. It's the first spin-off movie from the Transformers franchise and also the first Transformers movie not to be directed by Michael Bay. . Bumblebee is based on a script by Christina Hodson (Shut In) and revolves around a lovable character. In the first two Transformers movie, Bumblebee served as a personal guard of human hero Sam Witwicky (Shia Labeouf), often transforming into a snazzy Camaro. In time he began taking on other missions and will appear in Transformers: The Last Knight, due in theaters on June 23. The selection of Knight as director may suggest that...

Paramount Pictures has hired Travis Knight to direct their Transformers Bumblebee spinoff movie. Knight is the director behind last year's stop-motion animated masterpiece Kubo and the Two Strings, which was robbed at the Oscars this year.
Hiring Knight to direct the film might just be one of the best decisions that the studio could have made. The guy has proven that he has a great sense of character development and storytelling. This would be his first live action film and I think he'll do a great job with it and give fans something spectacularly cool!
The screenplay fro the film was written by Christina Hodson (Shut In) and it will be produced by Lorenzo Di Bonaventure, Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg.
In case you didn't already know, Knight is the son of Nike founder Phil Knight and he's also president and CEO of Laika, which is the studio that made...

The last time we indulged in a horror movie focusing in on a widowed mother and her son, fighting away demons from their idyllic abode – it was Jennifer Kent’s striking debut The Babadook. But where that picture thrived was in its subtlety and to take tropes from the genre at hand to enforce intrinsic human emotion. Farren Blackburn’s Shut In certainly vies to achieve much of the same thing, but struggles to have quite the same impact.
Naomi Watts plays the aforementioned single mother Mary Portman, a child psychologist who is suffering from grief, having lost her husband in a car accident, which also consigned her teenage son Stephen (Charlie Heaton) to a wheelchair and in need of constant assistance. But it’s another young boy who demands her attention, as her patient Tom (Jacob Tremblay) turns up at her house one evening in the middle of a snowstorm.

With production expected to begin this February in Vancouver, the cast of Shane Black’s The Predator is coming together with some truly talented performers. The latest addition to the cast is certainly no exception, as it’s been revealed that Jacob Tremblay, perhaps best known for his stunning turn opposite Brie Larson in Room, has joined the sci-fi film’s ranks.
The news of Tremblay’s casting comes from THR, who reveals that the actor is set to portray the bullied, autistic son of Boyd Holbrook’s ex-Marine character. Tremblay’s role will also play a pivotal part in his dad’s fight against the Predators thanks to his quick learning of and expert grasp on languages.
In addition to Tremblay and Holbrook, The Predator cast also includes Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Sterling K. Brown, and Olivia Munn, with Thomas Jane in discussions to also appear in the film.

A Stranger Things fan has created a gingerbread house that would be right at home in the small, strange town of Hawkins, Indiana.
Created by reddit user MemberofInternet, this Stranger Things gingerbread house (see below) features the regular version on the top and the ominous Upside Down version on the bottom. Here's what MemberofInternet posted on the message board about their imaginative gingerbread house that was inspired by the Netflix series:
