In this episode, as Carol and Andrea are holding baby Judith, Carol gives Andrea some advice on how to handle the Governor: "You need to sleep with him, give him the greatest night of his life. Get him to drop his guard, and then when he's sleeping, you can end this." This is essentially the story of the biblical heroine Judith, who in the eponymous book vanquishes the Assyrian general Holofernes in his tent after she gains his trust. The image of Judith with the decapitated head of Holofernes was a common subject of classical painters and sculptors ranging from Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and Gentileschi to Gustav Klimt.
The song Beth (Emily Kinney) sings at the end of the episode is "Hold On" by Tom Waits; from his 1999 album, "Mule Variations."
The title of the episode is 'I Ain't a Judas'. Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) actually played Judas in the music video for Lady Gaga's song entitled Lady Gaga: Judas (2011).
