Richard Hatch, who played Captain Apollo on Battlestar Galactica, succumbs to pancreatic cancer.
Richard Hatch, who starred as Captain Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica and as Tom Zarek in the 2003 Syfy Channel remake, died on Tuesday February 7th, at age 71.
Hatch, who was battling pancreatic cancer, was reportedly in hospice care.
The death was announced on social media by composer Bear McCreary, who tweeted “I share tragic news with a heavy heart. “Richard Hatch is no longer with us. Goodbye Tom Zarek/Apollo.”
The actor’s friends and colleagues shared their thoughts on social media too.
“Richard Hatch was a good man, a gracious man, and a consummate professional,” Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ronald D. Moore tweeted. “His passing is a heavy blow to the entire BSG family.”

A representative for Hatch told the Associated Press that the actor passed away on Tuesday afternoon after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Hatch’s manager Michael Kaliski said the actor’s son, Paul Michael Hatch, was beside him at the time of his death.
