Exclusive: Charithra Chandran, who broke out playing Edwina Sharma in Netflix’s smash regal series Bridgerton, has spoken out against an entertainment industry mentality that she feels pits people of color against each other.
Chandran, who was speaking to Deadline in the days before her debut West End play wraps, said she has “never pictured myself as a role model” but “a lot of young girls follow me on social media, so I do feel a sense of responsibility.”
Actors including Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Melissa Fumero and Aubrey Plaza have spoken out in the past about there being limited spaces for people of color in TV and movies.
To Chandran, this mentality is intentionally propagated by industry gatekeepers to pit people of color against each other. “It’s not a zero-sum game,” she said. “You’re so focused on fighting your own that you become...

Netflix’s 3 Body Problem delivered its second straight No. 1 showing among streaming titles, leading the rankings for the last week of March. The acquired series top 10 had several new entrants, thanks in part to a change in how Nielsen reports the numbers.
The ratings service says it made an “enhancement” to its Streaming Content Ratings, which is the basis for the weekly top 10 lists, that results in a number of programs being added to the Scr product. (They weren’t previously “due to business agreements which preceded the rankings, coupled with the associated technical aspects of measurement.”) The affected programs stream mostly on Hulu and Peacock after airing on linear networks.
The upshot is that former Fox series The Resident (1.48 billion minutes on Hulu and Netflix) and animated mainstays Family Guy (837 million minutes on Hulu) and American Dad (619 million on Hulu) all made their first appearance in the top...

Beginning with the March 25-31 viewing window, Nielsen has expanded its streaming measurement capability, resulting in the company’s ability to report the viewership of a number of titles for which previously unavailable. Per Nielsen, a combination of previous business agreements and technical aspects of measurement prevented several acquired series from inclusion in its weekly rankings, and while most of those titles would not have made the Top 10 anyways, some are debuting for the first time thanks to more accurate analysis.
Among those titles is “The Resident,” which appeared on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for the first time during this viewing window in the No. 2 position with 1.5 billion minutes watched. The medical procedural ran on Fox for six seasons from 2018 to 2023 before being canceled, and has seen increased popularity since being added to Netflix in early March, though it was already available on Hulu.

Federal regulators won’t stand in the way of any deals Wbd wants to make now, but its financial position may make big deals hard to find.
There’s still time to send Warner Bros. Discovery an anniversary card, though at this point it will arrive a little late. As of Monday, April 8, it’s been two years since the merger of Warner Media and Discovery in 2022. In the two years since the merger, things look a lot different for Wbd from a streaming perspective; HBO Max and discovery+ content is now available on the combined Max platform, which also carries live sports and news from the company’s cable channels. The two-year mark also means that legally, Wbd is now allowed to seek new merger and acquisition deals, and The Streamable will break down the best targets for the company to pursue now that it can officially use its credit card again.

Robb plays Alice, your favorite high school English teacher, a dreamer whose best dreams are crashing down on her. She’s a longtime...

Stephanie Beatriz is opening up about a recent reunion she had with the Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast which they used to remember their late co-star André Braugher.
The actor died in December 2023 at the age of 61 following a brief illness. Beatriz and her former co-stars, such as Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, and Chelsea Peretti, saw each other in March to remember Braugher.
“[It was] a chance for all of us to get together and make each other laugh,” Beatriz told People about the reunion. “And it was also a chance to talk about André. It came up immediately, and then we put it away for a while.”
She continued, “But at the end of the dinner, by the end, we were all just sharing stories about him and our memories of him. And he lives in our hearts forever and ever.”

The entertainment industry hasn’t always been quite as diverse and open-minded as it is today. From racial discrimination to disparity based on sexuality, as confessed by actors themselves, Hollywood has been a mess for a long time. Take, for example, when late actor Kevin Conroy revealed losing roles because of his homosexuality, before landing Batman: The Animated Series in 1992.

After facing years of discrimination, Kevin Conroy eventually shared the experiences of being a gay actor in Hollywood. Perhaps his grieving words opened the eyes of millions and became an inspiration for change. Thus, years after Conroy’s work as Batman in the Dcau, bisexual actress Stephanie Beatriz could work with ease as Batwoman in Catwoman: Hunted.

Bring your pink suit to the dry cleaners because Legally Blonde is making a comeback, and you’ll want to dress to impress! According to Deadline, Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine company will partner with Amazon MGM Studios for a Legally Blonde spinoff TV series. The long-anticipated project comes from Gossip Girl writers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who will also produce through their Fake Empire studio. Plot details remain a mystery, though Witherspoon’s involvement with the project gives me good vibes.
Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter will produce the Legally Blonde spinoff TV series via Hello Sunshine alongside Legally Blonde film producer Marc Platt. Deadline says there’s a chance we could get more than one spinoff series inspired by Legally Blonde, but details are fuzzier than the eraser toppers Elle Woods keeps in her purse.
Released in 2001, Legally Blonde stars Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, a fashionable sorority queen whom her boyfriend dumps.

Love Is Blind held onto its reign atop Nielsen’s streaming charts for the first full week in March.
From March 4 to 10, the series racked up 1.5B minutes viewed. That’s thanks to the Season 6 reunion episode released on March 6, which Nielsen says tallied a more than a third of that viewing. The reunion saw half of its viewership concentrated on the day it was released — a pretty impressive feat for any streamer.
Netflix’s reality series was joined in the top three by two more of the streamer’s originals. Damsel stormed up the charts to No. 2 after its March 8 release with 1.2B viewing minutes, while The Gentlemen managed 1.2B minutes across its eight episodes following its March 7 debut.
Nielsen reports The Gentlemen attracted a slightly older audience, with half of its viewership coming from the 50+ demographic.

Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen opened with a bang on Netflix.
The series, a spinoff of Ritchie’s 2019 film, delivered almost 1.21 billion minutes of viewing over its first four days (it premiered March 7), according to Nielsen’s streaming rankings for March 4-10. It ranked second among all streaming series for the week, behind Love Is Blind (1.5 billion minutes), which repeated as the top overall title.
Netflix also got a big first week for Millie Bobby Brown’s movie Damsel, which edged The Gentlemen for second place overall: Damsel had 1.209 billion minutes of viewing to 1.205 billion for The Gentlemen. Two other shows also topped the billion-minute mark — Bluey (1.1 billion on Disney+) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (1.04 billion on Netflix and Peacock).
After a huge opening and a strong second week, Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender fell by about 51 percent to 950 million minutes, still good for sixth place overall and third among original series.

“Love Is Blind” has spent four weeks on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 fueled by the episodic release of its sixth season, and had its second No. 1 week in a row between March 4 and March 10. The reality dating series was watched for 1.5 billion minutes during this viewing window, which included the release of the Season 6’s climactic twelfth episode.
Though that 1.5 billion minutes includes viewership of all seasons of the reality dating series during the week, Nielsen says that over one third of the tally was attributable to the wedding episode, which itself saw half of its viewership on the exact day of its release. Though Netflix is known for its binge releases, “Love Is Blind” is undeniable evidence of the potential for success with segmented drops.
In second place was a movie: Netflix’s “Damsel,” starring Millie Bobby Brown, which debuted with 1.2 billion minutes watched in its first three days of availability.

Tulsa King season 2 has now started shooting, and Deadline reports that Craig Zisk (Weeds) has signed on to direct and executive produce the Paramount+ series.
It was reported last year that showrunner Terence Winter would be stepping down from the series following some creative differences with creator Taylor Sheridan. However, he decided to come back as a writer for the second season, which would keep his interactions with Sheridan at a minimum.
While Winter is still involved as an executive producer, he will primarily focus on writing for the show as well as working closely with Sylvester Stallone. “He loves these characters and loved working with Sly and was glad his post-strike schedule allowed him to return to write but not run the show,” a source said. TV crossovers and interconnected universes are the best things when it comes to fandom. But they can be super tricky, for it involves combining separate ongoing storylines into one project. It’s a daunting task for the creative group, which if not done correctly can end up being like Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl and Brooklyn 99 crossover.
Zooey Deschanel as Jessica Day in New Girl
Although people appreciated watching Zooey Deschanel in Brooklyn 99, it wasn’t a great idea to combine the comedy styles of the two shows. Further, what created the biggest mess out of the crossover was featuring the same actors in different roles in the two shows.

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” dropped to the No. 2 position on Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings for Feb. 26-March 3 after debuting on top the week before. During its second week on the chart — its first full week of availability on Netflix — the series was watched for 1.9 billion minutes, a 25% decrease from the prior week’s 2.6 billion minutes.
Comparing last week’s Nielsen chart to Netflix’s own data suggested that “Avatar” had a more successful debut in the U.S. than in other territories. However, both companies’ Top 10s show that the series didn’t have the same staying power as other big-budget Netflix projects, which tend to increase in viewership from their opening weekends to their first full weeks of availability.
The show did drive renewed interest in the “Avatar” IP, however: Per Nielsen, the animated Nickelodeon series that inspired Netflix’s outing saw a viewership bump during the week of Feb.

Love Is Blind eclipsed Avatar: The Last Airbender to take No. 1 on the Nielsen streaming charts as Season 6 of the reality dating series started to heat up.
From February 19 to 25, Love Is Blind tallied 2.1B viewing minutes, which was slightly down from the week prior but enough to claim the top spot. This coincided with the release of the second batch of episodes in Season 6, which dropped on Netflix on February 21.
Meanwhile The Last Airbender saw a bit more of a dramatic drop in viewership versus its first week on the platform. The eight-episode series still tallied an impressive 1.9B viewing minutes, though.
This kind of dip in viewership is to be expected, since all eight episodes were released at once. Audiences tend to binge quickly and move on, rather than space out their viewing — unless they’re forced to with a staggered release schedule, like with Love Is Blind.

People now would much rather prefer paying a monthly fee and enjoying more content than ever before in the comfort of their own homes. Now, it takes films like Barbie and Oppenheimer to drive people to theater halls and experience cinema first-hand.

It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Alan Ritchson in the role of the humungous Jack Reacher in Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher. Film viewers only knew Tom Cruise as Reacher earlier, however, fans of the books still frown upon the casting of Cruise despite his stellar performance. Ritchson appealed to both audiences as the perfect Reacher, but fans would be surprised to know that he almost missed the opportunity if it was not for a second look at his passed-over audition tape.
Alan Ritchson in & as Reacher
Ritchson’s Reacher is based on the Jack Reacher book series by Lee Child. Reacher Season 1 was based on the first book, Killing Floor, and Season 2 was based on the book, Bad Luck and Trouble. Ritchson quickly became a popular star with his lead role in the series.

Chelsea Peretti was choked up remembering her deceased Brooklyn 99 co-star, Andre Braugher, during an interview with The Talk on Friday, recalling that Braugher was “always singing” while on the lot for shoots.
“We shared a lot of memories about him. He was a special person,” Peretti said, fighting back tears as she noted that the rest of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast had gotten dinner on Thursday night. “It’s hard to talk about because it’s emotional.”

Apparently eight seasons together was not enough. The cast of comedy-drama Brooklyn Nine-Nine gathered for a meet-up that was heavy on reminiscing.
Chelsea Peretti posted reunion photos on Instagram with the show’s other stars: Dirk Blocker, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Joel McKinnon Miller, Joe Lo Truglio, Melissa Fumero, and Andy Samberg.
Of course, it was keenly felt that Andre Braugher was missing. The actor who played Capt. Raymond Holt died unexpectedly in December.
