A Monster Among Men: So generic it hurts
Platypuschow14 March 2017
Stop me if this sounds familiar, group of 20 somethings go out to the woods on a camping trip and fall foul of something or someone. Hardly original, in fact that's the premise of dozens if not hundreds of feature films and they're rarely even remotely entertaining.

On a budget comparable with Big Mac & Strawberry Milkshake the movie is filled with questions. Is the killer a man? Is the killer a beast? And the most important one of all, does anyone even care?

Not the worst, but still feels like a chore to watch.

2 gallons of NOPE in a 12-ounce can

Remember this is only a 20,000 dollar budget. My fault for not reading the budget before watching. Also I didn't go to film school or anything so I might not be qualified to say what's good and what's not.

Having said that... This is my first review - I made an account just for this so that others don't make my mistake . 85%+ of the kills happened off screen. No visible violence, no gore beyond blood on skin and clothing. Basically just a bunch of people walking around the woods at night arguing with each other. If you pay attention to the dialogue all the way through you'll notice that it's actually unclear what happened to all the people.

2 instead of 1 because of the one hot actress.

Well I can't get that hour or so back

Warning: Spoilers
I usually don't really hate on movies. The acting wasn't horrible, but it's so so far from what it's movie poster implies. It's not horror or a monster movie at all. I mean the "beast" is in one short out of focus shot... and I'm not even sure what it is or what it's doing. A shot that is edited in a way that it looks like one guy, Mike, takes off toward another guy, Ely, and by the time he gets there Ely has been replaced with a person in Teen Wolf Too costume who's beating on ground. End of movie. Wow. I have no idea.

Mike, Mike, Mike...

Warning: Spoilers
Why does every friggin' ensemble horror movie have to have the stereotypical overly aggressive, testosterone driven, ultra macho hard ass that no one could possibly like?

In this movie, this would be Mike. If I ever had a "friend" like Mike, it would be an extremely short-lived relationship, as I would beat the living crap out of him within five minutes of knowing him. There really aren't any likeable characters in this film, with the possible exception of Bill, who dies fairly early in the movie.

This is a low budget film that I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt to, but the character of Mike was so over-the-top unlikeable that I only continued to watch for the express purpose of seeing him get killed.

No clue

Warning: Spoilers
Read scathing review before watching. Lots of off camera carnage. Everyone suspects Eli, but is he actually the monster. The real mobster is the jerk who drugged a girls drink and bragged about deflowering her. It certainly wasn't as bad as portrayed although it wasn't the best flick I've ever seen. It does fill or pardon the pun, kill time.
