This article from the Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022) Season 2 Episode 2 contains significant spoilers.
This is another standout episode of The Rings of Power that has gotten off to a rip-roaring start. In the second episode of its sophomore season, we find Sauron/Halbrand arriving at the doorstep of the Elvish master craftsman, Celebrimbor. Also, the Stranger and his two hobbit friends, Nori and Poppy, continue their treacherous trek across the Rhûn desert.
However, the most significant plot development in The Rings of Power storyline introduces a new character ruling over the land of Rhûn, a vast region in far-eastern Middle-earth. This character is the Dark Wizard, a new figure introduced by the showrunners, who said the “new character is rooted in the temptations of Gandalf and Saruman in the face of great power.”

This article contains spoilers for the May 21 episode of “FBI,” “Ring of Fire.”
In Thursday night’s Season 6 finale of “FBI,” agent Tiffany Wallace (Katherine Renee Kane) finally takes out the Somalian terrorist who killed her friend — but almost loses her job in the process.
Tiffany was devastated when Hakim Siran (Antwayn Hopper) killed her friend and colleague Trevor Hobbs (Roshawn Franklin) in the Season 6 premiere.
Ever since, her focus has been on taking Hakim down at all costs. Even when she was told he was out of the country, she believed he was still in New York and blew an undercover operation to try to smoke him out. Her partner Stuart Scola (John Boyd) backed her play, but the character came very close to being relieved from active duty.

An FBI arc that kicked off with this season’s premiere comes to an intense climax in Tuesday night’s finale — and in doing so, it puts Special Agent Tiffany Wallace (played by Katherine Renee Kane) in quite a moral predicament.
Season 6 opened with FBI agent Trevor Hobbs (Roshawn Franklin) being killed while working undercover with Tiffany, a death for which Agent Wallace felt some blame. That tragedy was revisited six weeks ago, when Tiffany grew convinced that the terrorist who killed Hobbs — Hakim Siran (returning guest star Antwayn Hopper) — was back in the States.

Lykke Li has released a haunting cover of Johnny Cash’s classic song, “Ring of Fire.”
Li’s first new release since 2022’s Eyeye, the single arrives as part of the soundtrack for the new Netflix film, Damsel, due on March 8th. Speaking in a new interview with Variety, Li explained that she wanted to honor the song’s distinct vibe while leaning into its emotionality. In the end, a spur-of-the-moment performance spawned the sound she was looking for.
“I sat down at the piano and the first thing that came out of my mouth was what I recorded,” she said. “To be honest, the only version I’ve ever heard in my whole life is the Johnny Cash version, so I had no real history. Bob Dylan wrote a whole essay about the lyrics of Elvis Presley’s “Blue Suede Shoes.” He said that there is a threat of violence in the track’s lyrics. Interestingly, Johnny Cash said he helped inspire the song.
Bob Dylan loves Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Suede Shoes’
In his 2022 book The Philosophy of Modern Song, the “Lay Lady Lay” singer Dylan wrote essays about several songs he loved. The songs included Elvis’ “Viva Las Vegas,” Little Richard’s “Long Tall Sally,” The Eagles’ “Witchy Woman,” and “Blue Suede Shoes.” It’s not surprising that Dylan gravitates toward classic rock!
Dylan had plenty to say about the meaning of “Blue Suede Shoes.” “Your shoes are your pride and joy, sacred and dear, your reason for living, and anyone who scrapes or bruises them is putting himself into jeopardy, accidentally or out of ignorance it doesn’t matter,” he wrote. “It...

While Elvis Presley‘s “Blue Suede Shoes” remains one of the most famous tracks of the 1950s, fans should remember that the tune was originally by Carl Perkins. Bob Dylan offered his take on the situation. He also had some interesting things to say about shoes in general.
A car accident caused Elvis’ ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ to overshadow the original
In his 2022 book The Philosophy of Modern Song, Dylan praised Perkins’ “Blue Suede Shoes.” He said there are numerous tunes about shoes. He said “Blue Suede Shoes” was wonderfully menacing, with its implied threat of violence. He felt the tune highlighted that stepping on someone’s shoes could be a greater insult than bashing their teeth in, beating them up, or discrediting them.
While Dylan liked Perkins’ signature hit, he didn’t think Perkins’ career was that successful. “Poor Carl Perkins, watching Elvis Presley sing his song ‘Blue Suede Shoes...

A new documentary aims to add depth to the story of the singer-songwriter who was often just referred to as the wife of Johnny Cash
Crazy was most famously sung by Patsy Cline but written by Willie Nelson. I Will Always Love You was most famously sung by Whitney Houston but written by Dolly Parton. Ring of Fire, a love song reeking of sulphur and damnation, took off when Johnny Cash sang it on his 1963 album Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash.
But it was written by his wife, June Carter Cash, a singer, songwriter, musician, actor and author who spent much of her career in his shadow. “I feel aggrieved on her behalf,” says Kristen Vaurio, 46, director of a new documentary, June, which shines a light on one of music’s hidden figures.

Documentary on June Carter Cash who was born into music royalty and a tough, funny trailblazer star – and the co-writer of Ring of Fire
The title is “June” – no surname. Which is surely director Kristen Vaurio making a point, since her documentary about June Carter Cash makes a convincing case that the country singer has for too long been under-appreciated and overshadowed by her husband Johnny. The stereotype of June is that she was the wifey-for-lifey who saved Cash from his demons, but the woman who emerges here is tough and funny, blazing a trail for herself as an artist. As Reese Witherspoon, who portrayed her in the movie Walk the Line, points out – still indignant – it was June who wrote Ring of Fire (with Merle Kilgore), one of Cash’s most famous songs.
Carter was born into country music royalty, the Carter family, and was touring by her teens.

There’s a reason the word honors is in the title. To help celebrate the lifetime contributions of artists in music, dance, theater, opera, movies and TV, the Kennedy Center Honors routinely pay tribute to its recipients by rewarding them with memorable performances.
Scores of artists have been feted since the Honors got their start in 1978, but there are certain tributes that remain sketched in our hearts forever. The Action Scene is a column that explores the construction of action set pieces in order to deepen appreciation for and spark discussion about action cinema.“It was clear that Pm weren’t attempting art.” This remark prefaces interviews conducted by the sadly defunct publication Hopes & Fears with various directors and stars who worked with Pm Entertainment, an independent film company that churned out a steady stream of largely direct-to-video movies and television episodes—most famously within the action genre—between the late 1980s and early 2000s. Watching the operatic tour-de-force opening of the Pm film Intent to Kill (1992), however, one might doubt the statement’s accuracy. The extraordinary set piece features squealing tires, spraying glass, and slow-motion gunplay, all against a jet-black sky dotted by the vaporous glow of street lamps. Blue-hued, low-key lighting cuts through night air thick with fog and gun smoke, sustaining a noirish, dreamlike mood...

In the late Seventies, Blondie were the most widely mocked band of Cbgb’s first punk wave — too pop, not rigorous enough. But after they hit Number One in early 1979 with “Heart of Glass,” their pasticheurs-and-proud stance not only made their string of hits a rare shot of excitement on early-Eighties radio, they foretold the way hits of the future would be stitched together from different genres. Blondie look increasingly visionary in the rearview.

Shortly before performing Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake,” which earned her the praise of the pop star and a golden ticket to Hollywood, Lady K opened up about some of the hardships that she and her family had endured in recent years after the judges asked how she came to audition.
“It was really hard growing up with a young, single mom with no help,” she explained as the show cut to interview footage of the contestant. “There was a time where my family and I ended up living in a shelter, and my mom, myself and my four brothers and sisters were bound to a dorm. We had to make that work. That was home. I’m the oldest, so...

Is it too early to predict that we’ve already found the next American Idol? Because Sunday’s episode, just the second week of the show’s 20th season, definitely introduced at least two major contenders.
Let’s start with this week’s Platinum Ticket recipient, 17-year-old Kenedi Anderson, who blew Katy Perry’s mind with a piano-based reinvention of Lady Gaga’s “Applause.” The performance was heavily promo’d, but no truncated tease could have done it justice. Not only did Anderson completely reimagine the song in her own ethereal style, but her voice is absolutely insane and her instincts are spot on.

BlackOps Studios Asia from the Philippines, Story Arch Pictures from the U.S. and Agog Film from Hong Kong have joined forces to develop, produce and finance a slate of genre movies that target the streaming marketplace.
The 16-title slate comprises nine films and seven series in the action, horror and sci-fi genres, with 11 flowing from BlackOps, two from Story Arch and three from Agog. The lineup is being unveiled this week at the European Film Market, the online companion to the in-person Berlin Film Festival.
The slate has development support from the Philippines-based creative agency Psyops8 and is expected to tap into incentives and location support from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (Fdcp). Leading Philippines media group Abs-cbn has already come on board “Sellblock,” a prison-set action drama that is one of the first titles to emerge from BlackOps stable and is now in pre-production.

The panelists on “The Masked Singer” were stunned at the conclusion of Wednesday night’s episode when the Raccoon was unmasked and revealed to be movie star, activist and restaurateur Danny Trejo. None of them guessed the “Machete” star was the dumpster diving crooner belting out “Ring of Fire” off-key from the stage. But despite Danny’s lack of musical talents, he had a great time on the show.

“I feel like a winner, I don’t care,” Danny asserted during his unmasked interview with guest host Niecy Nash. “Besides that, I was a cute Raccoon.” Throughout Danny’s clue packages and performances, he often mentioned a fondness for panelist Jenny McCarthy. “Jenny, I’m helping raise two autistic kids,” he explained. “I love the work that you do. Despite a rocky career that included many dark times, Raccoon is now ready to step into the light. This Group A contestant on “The Masked Singer” Season 5 took the stage for the first time on Wednesday, March 10 and endeared himself to the panelists with his raw energy. “I loved it because he didn’t follow script so you’re on the edge of your seat,” smiled Robin Thicke after watching the sheriff rodent’s initial performance. “And that’s entertainment at its finest.”

In retrospect, we should’ve guessed this week’s un-Masked Singer. After all, the guy has 400 — no, that’s not a typo — acting credits to his name.
So we’re slightly ashamed that we didn’t realize that Danny Trejo — whom you may know from TV shows as varied as The Flash, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series and Sons of Anarchy — was underneath Raccoon’s furry head.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 5 Episode 3 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired March 24 on Fox.
Danny Trejo has spent the past few weeks dodging people in public asking him if he’s the Raccoon on “The Masked Singer.”
“The Masked Singer” likes to keep the identity of its celebrities secret, but there’s no hiding Trejo’s unmistakable growl. And it turns out the fans were right: Trejo is the latest star to be unmasked on the hit Fox singing show.
“I’d be going to the market and somebody would say, ‘I know he’s the Raccoon!.’ I’d be like, no, didn’t you see me in ‘Heat’? I did ‘Con Air,’ I’m not the Raccoon, what’s the Raccoon! I think my best acting jobs have been in Vons Market, when women started telling me I was the Raccoon!

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.”)
“The Masked Singer” featured its much-anticipated first “Wildcard” round on this week’s episode of Season 5, when surprise contestant Orca came in and stole the show — literally. That celeb joined in the fun at the last minute, taking away the slot of Group A competitor Raccoon, who was eliminated from the competition and unmasked at the end of the episode.
Following last week’s introduction of Group B — which now consists of Grandpa Monster, Chameleon, Black Swan and Piglet, after Phoenix was cut from the lineup and revealed to be Caitlyn Jenner — Group A contestants Russian Doll, Snail, Raccoon, Seashell and Robopine (f.k.a. Porcupine) took the stage again.
They each gave their second performances in front of judges Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger, along with guest host Niecy Nash and guest judge Joel McHale.

Group A returned to the stage during Wednesday night’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” only with a twist — they weren’t alone. After Raccoon, Robopine, Russian Dolls and Seashell performed their hearts out, guest host Niecy Nash brought in the first wild card contestant of the competition. This new mystery celeb also gave it their all on the stage, and then the virtual audience and panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger voted to eliminate one person. Which four costumed characters sailed through to the Group A finals and who was forced to unmask in front of America?

If there is a definitive reason for genre fans to maintain their Amazon Prime subscriptions (besides the free 2-day shipping), it’s the company’s long-gestating untitled Lord of the Rings television series. The New Zealand-based production successfully endured a lengthy pandemic-era hiatus to complete its pilot this past fall, and continues work on subsequent episodes. Yet, the recent exit of cast member Tom Budge seems to signal that the purportedly billion-budgeted series is facing creative difficulties.
Budge revealed his departure from the ensemble of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series with an Instagram announcement, which was complemented by a thematically-appropriate vintage Johnny Cash performance of “Ring of Fire.” However, the circumstances over his exit were not exactly pun-worthy.

Imagine how intimidating it must be to sing with Bob Dylan for the first time. Now think of how Dylan must have felt singing alongside Johnny Cash in 1969 when the pair united for a loose recording session in Nashville. Cash was nine years Dylan’s senior, and had put out his first single in 1955, seven years before Dylan, who turned 28 that year. It’s rare to hear Dylan sound like a fan trying to be a peer, but that’s what’s evident here. Those sessions serve as the core of Travelin’ Thru,...

The second and final episode of “American Idol” showcasing Hollywood Week airs on March 25. On Sunday we saw the three judges — country superstar Luke Bryan, pop princess Katy Perry, and Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Lionel Richie — pass judgement on half of the contestants who had made it this far in the competition.
