“The market is saturated and no one would deny that,” the BBC’s natural history boss admitted today, as she explained how she is combatting this with Game of Thrones-style series Kingdom.
Sreya Biswas said the “pretty bad downturn” has hit “expensive” natural history landmarks as much as other genres in production ecosystems around the world.
Commissioners and program makers therefore need to keep thinking about how to reinvent the wheel, she added at the Creative Cities Convention.
“Production costs are huge so we need to think about what a landmark is, how we want to make it and how to interrogate new technology and stories,” said Biswas. “We need to be clever about how we think about what to make next.”
Coupled with the downturn and rising costs, Biswas pointed to the issue of natural history lacking ‘bingeability’, which can be a turn off for the streamers or VoD platforms like BBC iPlayer.

Masakazu Morita, the Japanese voice actor for Kurosaki Ichigo, the protagonist of Tite Kubo’s Bleach, has been voicing the character since the beginning of the series. He has additionally worked as Marco the Phoenix in One Piece, Tidus in Final Fantasy X, Whis in Dragon Ball Super, Pod in Pokémon, Tenjuro Banno in Kamen Rider Drive, and Li Xin in Kingdom.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War
While Morita is a big name in the anime industry, many fans may not know that Morita has also been voicing Kurosaki Ichigo in the popular mobile game Bleach: Brave Souls since the anime series ended. Along with that, he has also worked on a bunch of other popular mobile and PC video games.
However, Morita once revealed in one of his interviews that he prefers anime voice acting over games because it feels more like a conversation compared to video games, where they are just normal dialogues.

In 2022, Disney teased fans with blue sky art about what could lie beyond Big Thunder Mountain in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Nothing else was said about it until recently, when permits were being filed for the area and the Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, Josh D’Amaro, made some comments about upcoming projects.
With Univeral Orlando bringing Epic Universe to Florida, Disney really needs to step up its game with new offerings of their own. This would be the perfect time to finalize plans for expanding the Magic Kingdom.
When the blue sky art was shown and announced, the plans included “Coco,” “Encanto,” and Disney Villains.
Since then, “Encanto” has been announced for Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s new Tropical Americas update, which will replace Dinoland U.S.A.
This leaves “Coco” and Disney Villains that could be added to the area. Frankly, Disney’s best bet...

Netflix has become one of the premiere streaming sites for carrying both existing and original content from across Asia. This is especially true when looking at Korean movies and original series (such as Mask Girl and Song of the Bandits), often dominating the rating charts. Continuing on our #tributetonetflix, we wanted to highlight some of the best films on the platform you can watch right now. Here are the best Korean movies currently available for streaming on Netflix.

1. The Wailing (2016) by Na Hong-jin
“The Wailing” features many grotesque scenes. Cannibalism, violent killings, people acting like zombies, the terribly depicted skin infection, the cock killing ritual, and the amounts of blood all point towards an extreme horror film. The same applies to Hyo-jin's behavior, which is very hard to watch, particularly during the ritual scene. The sequences involving the dog and the...

"Planet of the Apes" has consistently been a science-fiction franchise (and one of the best we have), but the movies come in different sci-fi flavors. The original was a time travel story (even if Charlton Heston's lead George Taylor took the long way around via cryogenesis), culminating in the shocking ending right out of "The Twilight Zone" where Taylor discovers the shattered Statue of Liberty and realizes this ape-ruled world was Earth all along.
The third movie, "Escape from the Planet of the Apes," saw the talking apes travel back to the 1970s when humans reigned. Subsequent films filled in the timeline, depicting the uprising that led to the planet of the apes. The new films (the so-called Caesar trilogy) have done the reverse, starting at the beginning and taking the route of contemporary speculative fiction. Things have only come full circle with the fourth film, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,...

Exclusive: The General is getting a formidable new opponent. Frank Grillo has joined the Season 2 cast of Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ original series Tulsa King, as a new series regular. The new season of the series starring and executive produced by Sylvester Stallone, which is slated to debut this fall, has begun filming in Oklahoma and Atlanta.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is just over a month away, and it looks like Wes Ball’s addition to the franchise is stacking up to be a significant hit. The last three Planet of the Apes movies did a good job reinventing the franchise for the 21st century, with the last two instalments, directed by Matt Reeves, especially acclaimed. While the Caesar trilogy has come to an end, the new film is set to follow the same continuity, only taking place generations later. In many ways, Kingdom seems more in line with the original series, with talking apes, led by Owen Teague’s Noa, at war with a primitive human society.
According to Deadline, the film is tracking for a $54-61 million dollar opening, which would put it on track with the last film, War for the Planet of the Apes, which opened with $56 million. It’ll...

Technically speaking, the Year of the Monkey is still four years away, but 2024 apparently failed to get the memo. "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" got the party started by beating all early estimates and overperforming at the box office. Meanwhile, actor/director Dev Patel is doing everything in his power to turn himself into our next action star with the upcoming "Monkey Man," which is similarly poised to provide a much-needed boost among moviegoers for original movies. But as exciting as these offerings are, both of them might as well be the hors d'oeuvres and appetizers preceding the main course: "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes."
The longstanding sci-fi franchise continues to prove the wisdom of its central "Apes together strong" maxim, reignited by the recent trilogy of acclaimed movies begun by 2011's prequel/reboot "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." After Matt Reeves took over the...

The Planet of the Apes reboot series is still ongoing, even after the original trilogy has been officially concluded. Set 300 years after the original trilogy, the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to start a new trilogy of films that will continue the reboot universe with new characters and a new storyline. The movie is officially releasing on May 10, 2024, with previews being available from May 8, 2024. Recently, we have reported of a new poster being released as part of the film’s promotion, but we now have news regarding the film’s runtime.
Namely, as AMC reports, the movie is listed as being 145 minutes (2 hours and 25 minutes) long, which would make it the longest movie in the franchise, surpassing Reeves’ War by a total of five minutes.
