ABC Family’s Continuing Fred comedy pilot has cast the lead character’s funny folks.
The Simpsons‘ Dan Castellaneta will play Harry, father to Mimi Gianopolous’ Winifred “Fred” Harris. His character is described as hardworking, cheap and gruff – pretty much the opposite of the actor’s Simpsons alter ego Homer.

Mo Gaffney (Absolutely Fabulous) will portray Loretta, Fred’s well-meaning but nosy mom.
The multi-camera sitcom, greenlit for a pilot in September, follows slacker-turned-elementary-school-teacher Fred and her crazy family.

ABC Family is adding Homer Simpson to its ranks. The Simpsons' Dan Castellaneta and Absolutely Fabulous' Mo Gaffney have joined the network's comedy pilot Continuing Fred, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. From Mike & Molly's Bill Daly, the multicamera comedy revolves around twentysomething Winifred "Fred" Harris (Mimi Gianopulos), a newly graduated slacker with an overbearing family who surprisingly finds purpose when she begins to teach at a local elementary school. ABC Family has given the greenight to three pilots for 2013. The first is Terminales which is adapted from a Televisa series and scripted by Susanna Fogel and Joni Lefkowitz. The drama executive-produced by Aaron Kaplan and Lefkowitz, follows a young woman who is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Variety reports that Lionsgate is produces in association with Televisa. Phys Ed written and executive-produced by David H. Steinberg, tells of a former jock's return to his high school but this time he's a teacher. Continuing Fred, whose pilot is scripted by Bill Daly, follows Winifred "Fred" Harris and her entry into work as an elementary school teacher.
