"Star Wars" fans are distinguished by their love of battles — not the ones with flashing lightsabers, but those with one another. From the beginning, the serial nature of the films has encouraged speculation, prediction, and theory-mongering, which naturally lead to heated debates between the franchise's most ardent followers.
However, thanks to an ever-shifting canon and that good friend of the human brain, confirmation bias, it's easy to misunderstand "Star Wars" media. The mythical nature of "Star Wars" invites widely varying understandings of its stories and main players. That's part of its staying power, but it can also split the fanbase. While fan theories might make for excellent YouTube videos, there's a thin but definite line between the intent of the screenwriters, directors, and actors, and simple wishful thinking.
Further complicating the issue is that Disney decanonized entire swaths of novels, video games, and comics after it purchased Lucasfilm in 2012. But,...

Sony Pictures has landed the rights to “The Registration,” a forthcoming novel by Madison Lawson and attached Sydney Sweeney to star and Brad Fuller to produce, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
“The Night House” writers Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski will adapt the upcoming novel and Sweeney will produce through her Fifty-Fifty Films, with Fuller producing through his Fuller Media Brand.
The novel is coming out on Sept. 27 and, while Sony is keeping the plot of their adaptation under wraps, the novel certainly sounds intriguing.
“The Registration’s” official synopsis reads: “Imagine it’s legal to commit one murder in your lifetime, if you Register the victim and accomplish the kill within fourteen days. When Lynell Mize stands in line to Register the man who abused her as a child, she’s shocked to hear a stranger Register her to be killed. Why would anyone who doesn’t know...

They then watched as production decided to follow Tyler to his family’s house later on and filmed him breaking the news to his family.
As his parents and other family members sat waiting for him and Rachel to come through the door, they chatted about how happy they thought he would look when he entered their home.
At first, when Tyler came in the front door, they didn’t seem to think him arriving alone was weird or off.
However, as Tyler sat down, his entire demeanor was off, and his mom was the first to notice something wasn’t quite right.

Rachel Recchia is causing some more speculation. Pic credit: @pilot.rachel/Instagram
Season 19 co-Bachelorette, Rachel Recchia, has had quite a season so far on the show.
Rachel has had many ups and even more downs this season. It seems as if the leading woman has definitely had her share of tears as the show has aired.
As some Bachelor Nation viewers have dissed her choice of clothing and how her wardrobe stylist must hate her, Rachel and Cary himself have defended their choices.
Now Rachel is being criticized again by some fans, but for a much different reason than her style and what she has worn.
From the time Rachel was on Clayton Echard’s season of The Bachelor to now as the co-Bachelorette, there has been speculation about Rachel’s appearance.
In fact, they have been talking about whether Rachel has gone under the knife since her time in the Bachelor franchise.

The Power of the Dog helmer Jane Campion won the marquee Theatrical Feature Film prize at the 74th annual DGA Awards, which were handed tonight at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. Check out the winners list below.
The win solidifies her as the front-runner for Best Director at the Academy Awards on March 27. Campion won an Original Screenplay Oscar for 1993’s The Piano and was up for Best Director that year.
DGA Awards 2022: Deadline’s Full Coverage
The DGAs are an important bellwether in the Oscar race: Only seven times since the marquee Theatrical Feature Film award’s inception in 1949 has the winner differed from the eventual Oscar winner for Directing. Last year was no exception as Nomadland‘s Chloé Zhao took the DGA’s top film prize en route to her historic Oscar win for Best Director. But in 2020, Sam Mendes won the DGA Award before the Oscar went to Bong Joon-ho.

Italian director Matteo Garrone, who was at the 2020 Berlinale with Roberto Benigni-starrer “Pinocchio,” is set to return to the director’s chair in March with coming-of-age adventure drama “Io Capitano,” on which France’s Pathé will be handling international distribution.
Garrone’s new pic, whose title translates as “I, Captain,” will be shot in Italy, Morocco and Senegal, marking the first time, Garrone –– a two-time Cannes jury prize-winner, with “Gomorrah” in 2008 and “Reality” in 2012 –– sets a feature film outside of Italy.
As is customary with Garrone, story details of “Io Capitano” are being kept under wraps, besides the fact that he wrote the screenplay with regular collaborators Massimo Gaudioso and Andrea Tagliaferri and actor Massimo Ceccherini (“Pinocchio”), who also contributed to the “Pinocchio” screenplay.
Rai Cinema chief Paolo Del Brocco told Variety that the film is “a coming-of-age adventure drama,” but declined to disclose further details, saying that Garrone does not want them disclosed.

Handling writing, directing, editing, and cinematography duties on all his films — all while maintaining a parallel career in the music business — Quentin Dupieux has become the arthouse’s most reliable purveyor of artisanally-produced, small-batch surrealism, showing up at one of the major festivals nearly every year for another bit of deadpan fun.
From 2010’s “Rubber,” which followed a killer tire, to 2019’s “Deerskin,” which followed a killer jacket, to 2020’s “Mandibles,” which followed a more-benevolent-but-unsettlingly-giant fly, Dupieux’s modus operandi has never really changed, with each new film enacting the same experiment to see just how far a single absurdist premise can travel. And if “Incredible but True” (running time: 74 minutes) fits neatly within that overall filmography, it also builds on the uncommon tenderness that made “Mandibles” stand out to rather delightful effect.
Mind you, sweetness is something of a new flavor for Dupieux, who launched his career with 2001’s...

It is Dupieux’s tenth feature after comedy Mandibles, which had a buzzy premiere at Venice in 2020.
Screen can reveal the first trailer for French director Quentin Dupieux’s new film Incredible But True ahead of its world premiere at the Berlinale as a special gala screening on Friday (Feb 11).
The comedy reunites Dupieux with French star Alain Chabat, who previously appeared in the director’s 2014 film Réalité. He co-stars opposite Léa Drucker as a couple who move to a quiet suburb and then find a mysterious tunnel in the cellar of their new home that turns their lives upside down.

When R.J. Cutler first screened “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry” for the singer and her family, it was on a big IMAX screen and Cutler found her response to it to be gratifying. “She did tell me after watching the movie that she felt that it saw her in a way that she never had imagined others would see her and that the film understood her,” he tells Gold Derby during our recent Meet the Experts: Film Documentary panel (watch the exclusive video interview above). It also led to her making a crazy promise to the film’s editors. “When she met them, she told them she wanted to buy them each a car, so that was a good sign. She has not yet made such a purchase.”

Quentin Dupieux, also known in some circles by his musical stage name of Mr. Oizo, has a cult following for his deadpan, dry-as-a-bone comedies about oddball corners of humanity. They’ve so far included films like “Rubber,” “Reality,” and most recently “Deerskin.” Now he’s back with “Mandibles,” a droll lowlife comedy about two simple-minded friends who discover a giant fly in the trunk of a car and decide to domesticate it to earn money. Watch the trailer for the film below.
The cast includes Gregoire Ludig, David Marsais, Adele Exarchopoulos (in a reportedly scene-stealing role as a brain-damaged woman who can only speak at screaming volume), India Hair, Romeo Elvis, Coralie Russier, and Bruno Lochet. Dupieux also wrote the film in addition to directing it.
“Mandibles” first premiered at the Venice Film Festival back in September of 2020. This was followed by runs at Sitges Catalonia, Busan, Thessaloniki, and Rotterdam.

Cinema is coming to the rescue this summer, and we in turn will hopefully be rescuing the cinema. After what has seemed like an eternity, cinema doors are starting to open and we will once again be able to watch films where they were designed to be seen: on an immense screen in the company of like-minded strangers…and one person who refuses to turn off their phone.

Since the outlet did not follow appropriate measures for protecting its source, the FBI easily tracked down Winner at her cramped home in Augusta, Georgia, later charging her under the Espionage Act. Winner accepted a plea deal with a five-year prison sentence, an outcome usually reserved for more severe offenses.
Unlike the explosive Edward Snowden saga of “Citizenfour,” Kennebeck doesn’t attempt to present its subject as a monumental truth-teller, nor does it bring new information to the table, or even fully assess the revelations of Winner’s leak. As a result, it lacks some of the intrigue that this type of investigative documentary storytelling usually bakes into the material. Like Kennebeck’s previous effort, “Enemies of the State,” the movie adopts the icy tone of a true-crime thriller,...

Although we live in a world where science presumably can explain almost everything it seems, it is surprising considering these advances come with the existence of borders. Much of what we define as science is still based on assumptions, which, for the lack of a more consistent theory or proof, still exist, even when it comes to our bodies and how they function. One of the greatest mysteries remains our ability to remember, with neuroscience being a field which, while it can define some of the processes in our brain and nervous system, knows its borders while working on theories, tests and other sources to one day be able to explain the complex map of connections which we call memory.

What do two idiots, one giant fly, and Adèle Exarchopoulos have in common? Absolutely nothing! Except for a desire to eat good food and enjoy themselves in the summer sun. Mandibules is the latest creation from wacky French filmmaker Quentin Dupieux and it's an amusing, lighthearted, unquestionably enjoyable film about uh, two idiots, one giant fly, and Adèle Exarchopoulos. It's super weird, super French, buddy comedy ridiculousness. But that's the magic of Quentin Dupieux - he makes entirely original and entirely entertaining films. And this one clocks in at only 77 minutes, which is both just long enough, and also not long enough. You'll see what I mean once you watch it, because just as it's getting real good, it's over. Then again, better to not ruin it when everything else is pretty much perfect. Written & directed by Quentin Dupieux (formerly known as "Mr. Oizo"), Mandibules introduces us to two bozos: Jean-Gab and Manu,...

In addition to recognizing Abed, the TV Academy has also awarded Netflix’s reality reboot in the Best Structured Reality Program category the last two years (2018-2019). Exclusive: In one of the largest orders ever, Lifetime has picked up six new seasons — Seasons 12-17 — of its flagship reality series Married at First Sight.
Additionally, Lifetime has greenlighted a new spinoff series, Married at First Sight: Unmatchables with an eight-episode order and has given a blind commitment to another series from the Married at First Sight franchise producer, Kinetic Content. Along with the recent pickup of 16 additional episodes from new offshoot Married at First Sight: Couples Cam, this brings the total order to Kinetic Content to almost 400 hours. Lifetime is expected to make an announcement during its portion of the summer press tour this morning.
The massive renewal follows a two-season pickup Married at First Sight received last year, which included the series undergoing a supersizing with more couples and longer episodes.
It also comes as Married at First Sight‘s eleventh season, which launched July 15, is delivering strong ratings.

The Daytime Emmys held their first ever virtual ceremony on CBS on June 26. “The Young and the Restless” won eight awards including Best Drama Series, but we didn’t find out all the winners. Categories honoring digital dramas will be announced at another virtual ceremony on Sunday night, July 19, while children’s, animated, and lifestyle programs will get their due the following Sunday, July 26. And now the national television academy has announced who will be hosting those events.
“Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” alum Jai Rodriguez will host the digital drama ceremony on July 19. Rodriguez won a Primetime Emmy for Best Reality Program back in 2004 as one of the original hosts of the groundbreaking “Queer Eye,” alongside Carson Kressley, Ted Allen, Thom Filicia and Kyan Douglas. In recent years a revamped version of the show has aired on Netflix with a brand new fab five, and it too has won Emmys.

Last year, Christine Baranski celebrated her tenth season portraying lawyer Diane Lockhart on “The Good Wife” and its spin-off “The Good Fight,” a milestone that brought her within striking distance of her first-ever Drama Actress Emmy nomination. Though she missed out on that richly-earned accolade, Baranski raised her game even further to mark the start of her second decade in the role with her hilarious and emotionally-raw gamut-running turn in the “Good Fight” season four premiere.
Penned by series creators Michelle King and Robert King, the season-opener “The Gang Deals with Alternate Reality” very cheekily returns to the show’s origins, recreating the opening scene of the pilot episode in which Baranski’s Diane watched the 2017 inauguration in horror as President Donald J. Trump gets sworn into the highest office in the land. This time, though, Diane watches on with glee as Hillary Clinton gets inaugurated instead. Baranski beams, lets out a joyous guttural scream,...

As we continue to make our way into June, it’s shaping up to be a bit of a less eventful month for new Netflix releases than May was. But that certainly doesn’t mean viewers have been left wanting for fresh content to sink their teeth into. Far from it, in fact.
We’ve seen some great new additions to the platform over the past few days already and this coming week looks to continue the trend. Admittedly, there’s not quite as much standout material here as we got at the start of the month, but that’s to be expected as the first of any given month is usually the best day when it comes to new drops.
Nevertheless, there’s still a lot to get excited about over the coming days and here’s what’s on the way:

Natascha Bessez came in like a freight train on Monday’s “The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart” to expose Trevor Holmes‘ alleged cheating ways. The “American Idol” alum would only admit to “emotional cheating” on Natascha’s friend and came clean to his paramour Jamie Gabrielle, who decided to give him a second chance, which seems like a big mistake. Huge, you could say. Especially since the 21-year-old had just cried to the other girls that she’s been cheated on in “every relationship that I’ve ever been in.”
So why did she decide to stick with a guy who just copped to emotionally cheating on his ex-girlfriend? “I was just trying to follow my heart and to go with those feelings,” Jamie told “Entertainment Tonight” (watch below). “And I had, you know, spent the time I had with him, and you know, I, you know, asked my questions,...

RuPaul’s Drag Race is coming in hot for season 12 with an all-star roster of guest judges who are ready to sashay and slay the Emmy-award winning reality competition which is set to premiere on February 28 on VH1.
As seen in the trailer for the 12th season, this season’s queens will be pledging allegiance “to the drag” of the “United Queens of Ru-America”. Because it is such a patriotic season, it only makes sense that they have trailblazing politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the judges’ panel this season. Others joining previously announced judge Nicki Minaj include Saturday Night Live alum Leslie Jones, actor Jeff Goldblum, Academy Award-winning actress and View co-host Whoopi Goldberg, music icon Chaka Khan and Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley. Other guest judges include Robyn, Normani, Thandie Newton, Olivia Munn, Rachel Bloom, Daniel Franzese, Jonathan Bennett and Winnie Harlow. The “ru-volution” will be televised with the premiere airing over two consecutive Friday nights.

For folks that enjoy quality action films, there aren’t very many that are better than the first “Lethal Weapon.” Not only did that film solidify Mel Gibson as an A-lister and give us iconic scenes and lines such as “I’m too old for this shit!” but the film is just an almost pitch-perfect blend of action and comedy that would lay the groundwork for an avalanche of imitators in the years after.

ViacomCBS has restructured international operations following the closing of the merger in December, with two brand groups and three pan-regional management hubs reporting into ViacomCBS Networks International CEO David Lynn.
Lynn, who was promoted to head international in early 2017 after former global boss Bob Bakish was tapped to lead Viacom, pointed out that consolidating international flagship brands into two groups “will simplify our structure and more closely align our business with ViacomCBS’ U.S. brands, enabling us to share more content and resources across our different brands and extract maximum value from our content investment and libraries.”
The restructure sees ViacomCBS Networks International (Vcni) divided into an entertainment and youth arm and a kids and family division. There is also a further three-way geographic restructuring, with a UK and Australia division that includes responsibility for Ireland, New Zealand and Israel; a Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia (Emeaa) hub; and an Americas branch.

Initiated 13 years ago, Idfa DocLab is not only a laboratory for transmedia documentary projects that defy categorisation, but also a space for experimenting with exhibition strategies themselves. Erecting location-specific installations, expanding solitary experiences into public spaces, blowing up smartphone screens onto walls and projecting 360-degree videos onto the dome of the planetarium, the curators of DocLab, together with the artists, try to find a way to bridge the gap between individual experiences and the common, shared space for exchange that the festival represents. This year’s edition was held under the theme of “Domesticating Reality”. The theory of domestication describes the cycle of appropriation that we apply to technology, starting with wonder, moving on to utopian and dystopian projections, and finally complete transparency, when the.
Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite,” which earlier this year won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, on Thursday added the Asia Pacific Screen Award for best film to its burgeoning trophy cabinet. “Parasite” producer Jang Young-hwan was on hand to accept the award at the end of a ritzy ceremony in Brisbane, Australia.
The APSAs, now in their 13th edition, like to celebrate the diversity and artistic expression of the 70 countries in its remit, and they usually spread around the awards to avoid clustering around a single winner. So it proved again this year.
While “Parasite” predictably took the top award, Russia’s “Beanpole” was the numerical winner and the only film to claim two of the APSAs stunning glass vessel prizes. Directed by Kantemir Balagov, “Beanpole” was rewarded for best screenplay and achievement in cinematography (Ksenia Sereda).

We TV has renewed its viral hit “Love After Lockup” for a third season and spinoff “Love After Lockup: Life After Lockup” for a second season, Variety has learned exclusively.
“Love After Lockup” — a reality show about couples who’ve met through prison dating websites trying to make it after the prisoner has been released — premiered in early 2018, with little marketing behind it. But its ratings grew every week, propelling it to be the fastest-growing new reality show on cable last year. The unconventional idea for the show had come out of We TV’s 2016 “pitchfest,” an annual companywide event, during which all We staffers divide into teams to brainstorm ideas.
Its word-of-mouth success then inspired the summer 2019 spinoff “Life After Lockup,” which follows couples from the cast who are still together, or otherwise still connected (sometimes the connections are a bit toxic). “Life After Lockup’s” first season aired...

Choi Hee-seung‘s graduation film “Love at the Crossroads” (2019) has been a consistent hit on the student animation circuit. The short condenses a shoujo love triangle between Dreams, Reality, and a forever flustered female protagonist into a laugh-out-loud five-minute reel. And just as the two handsome men win over the protagonist, “Love at the Crossroads” has captured the hearts of many. The film earned the Special Mention in the Animafest Zagreb Student Competition, the Audience Award at Indie-AniFest, and a screening at Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (Bifan).
Now, in the middle of Choi Hee-seung’s festival rounds, she has taken the time to chat with us in Seoul’s 15th edition of Indie-AniFest. We interviewed the elusive star — almost completely invisible from the Interwebs — within the print-lined walls of the Cgv Myeongdong Cine Library.
