Mark O’ Connor just drop me a mail with the good news that new Irish film ´Stalker´ will open in cinemas February 26th. The movie has a number of awards under it belt including the Underground Film Festival 2013, 2nd prize at the Galway Film Festival 2012 and has been selected for film festivals in North America. The trailer which is below is absolutely and utterly refreshing from an Irish indie movie point of view. The amount of indie Irish flicks that attempt to cut a trailer together and end up with a long, meandering and pointless mess is unbelievable. But, to its credit, Stalker delivers a fantastic trailer. Punchy and intriguing. Basically, it does the job that a trailer should do! And that’s get your bum on a cinema seat! This is an Irish psychological thriller and stars John Connors (King of The Travellers), Barry Keoghan (Stay, Between the Canals,...

It's no real surprise that Mark O'Connor's self-proclaimed "manifesto" for Irish film, unveiled in July 2012 before the premiere of his film "Stalker" at the Galway Film Fleadh, hasn't had quite the same sweeping effect as comparable polemics like Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg's Dogme '95 document. Yet this "call to arms" for an Irish New Wave is, if perhaps a rather crassly reactionary effort to incite change, indicative at least of the groundswell of passion prominent among the nation's emerging young filmmakers. This is a time, as O'Connor writes in his manifesto, "more exciting than anything that came before" for Irish cinema -- a reality to which the six movies that comprise the third annual Irish Film New York festival (October 4 - 6 at the Cantor Film Center) attest. Its title a play on the "Celtic Tiger," the nickname accorded the Irish economic boom that began in the...

★☆☆☆☆ The latest from writer-director Mark O'Connor, whose two previous features Between the Canals (2011) and Stalker (2012) were only given theatrical releases in his native Ireland, King of the Travellers (2012) is a contemporary drama about family devotion and the undying quest for revenge, set amongst the traditions of the Irish traveller community. In an effort to forge a quasi-gangster slant on the escalating familial drama, O'Connor does well to map the dangers, not to mention vented frustrations, of becoming entrenched within a constantly threatening environment - yet fails on almost every level to mix this with a dull plot.

Uh oh. The District Attorney claims Chris faked his community service — he may be heading to jail! What will Rihanna do?
The Los Angeles County District Attorney filed legal documents claiming Chris Brown has violated his probation by submitting fake community service records. According to the lega documents, Chris lied about completing his community service stemming from the Rihanna assault case.
The Los Angeles District Attorney tells HollywoodLife.com, “Entertainer Chris Brown failed to provide ‘credible, competent or verifiable evidence’ that he completed his court-ordered community labor. [We] asked the court to order Brown to fulfill his obligation in Los Angeles County.”
Bryan T. Norwood, the Chief of Police in Richmond, Virginia, reportedly wrote a letter to the judge on September 14, 2012, claiming that Chris successfully completed 202 days of community service out of the 180 sentence to him on August 25, 2009 as part of a five-year probationary sentence for assault.
The documents allegedly claim that Chris,...

I am a bad SFnal blogger, since these nominees were announced a good two weeks ago. (Perhaps I delayed because I believe, based on my own Wfa judge experience, that the winners in all categories have already been determined, and so most of the nominees are doomed to forlorn hopes.)
Anyway, congratulations to all of the nominees, and good luck to them. I leave the annual exercise of determining which two entries in each category were voted on by the convention membership and which were picked by the judges to fandom assembled.
