For those who’ve seen Joshua Ray Walker perform, they know his voice can alternately hush and rouse a crowd. (Catch him perform “Voices” if you ever get the chance and be amazed.) The Texas songwriter delivers one of his most dynamic recorded takes on “Cuz I Love You” — a Lizzo cover that announces his new album What Is It Even?.
The rendition arrives with a music video that finds Walker flirting with gender norms. What is it even? How about a vocalist confident in who he is as an artist.

Celebrities, they’re just like us. Lauren Graham found fame with Gilmore Girls and became known for her quirky characters. However, Graham isn’t immune to being star-struck despite her fame and success as an actor.
Graham recently revealed that she was so star-struck with Bernadette Peters that she wandered into the Broadway star’s fitting while working on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
Lauren Graham on meeting Bernadette Peters
Peters is a star, and it’s understandable that even fellow celebrities worship her talent. Gilmore Girls star Graham recently sat down with Sam Pancake to talk about her years in show business. When Pancake asked if they pre-recorded all the numbers they did on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Graham replied in the affirmative.
She, however, clarified that the only person who didn’t do so was Peters, saying the Emmy nominee sang all her songs live and in one take.

Kate Hudson scored her second career Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Zu in “Music,” the feature directorial debut from three-time Globe nominated and nine-time Grammy-nominated Australian singer-songwriter Sia. It’s been a long time between nominations for Hudson, who was was nominated and won for her supporting performance in Cameron Crowe‘s “Almost Famous” 20 years ago, for which she went on to earn an Oscar nomination.
In “Music,” Hudson plays a rebellious free spirit who is newly sober and estranged from her family. She finds herself the sole guardian of her teenage half-sister Music (Maddie Ziegler), who is on the autism spectrum. As she struggles with her new responsibility, Zu looks to her friend, neighbor Ebo (Leslie Odom Jr), for guidance and support. The film embarks on Zu’s journey self-discovery through Sia’s uplifting original songs and musical flights of fancy, which take place in striking, vibrant...

Five years is an eternity in pop. In 2016, This Is Acting, anchored by the moody party hit “Cheap Thrills,” cemented Sia’s status as a pop star. But in the time since, she’s seemed uncertain of her next step, and her moves were hesitant and tentative. There was a Christmas album, a collaboration with Diplo and the British rapper Labirinth as a group called LSD, and a string of singles that mostly went nowhere commercially, four of which surface on the soundtrack to the film that preoccupied Sia for much of that interim.

Following the death of Elliot Mazer on Sunday, Neil Young took to his website to honor the engineer-producer behind multiple Young albums.
Young wrote that he first met Mazer in Nashville in January 1971, when he was appearing on The Johnny Cash Show and working on his upcoming album, Harvest. “At that time, seeing how many new unrecorded songs I had, Elliot immediately got a studio and a group of musicians together so that I could record,” he recalled. “James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt were in town doing the Johnny Cash...

A couple years ago we first reported about a crowdfunding campaign launched to support the creation of Mad Heidi, the first Swissploitation film. Produced by Iron Sky's Tero Kaukomaa, who knows a thing or two about exploitation cinema, and Valentin Greutert, Mad Heidi will be directed by Johannes Hartmann. If all goes according to plan this will be Hartmann's feature film debut. The production announced today that Trent Haaga, writer of films like 68 Kill, Cheap Thrills, and Girl on the Third Floor (story), will come on board to go over the script. He also wrote It Came From The Desert but I'm willing to grant him the benefit of the doubt because of what else he has written. The writing and drafting...

Today came the news that Travis Stevens directed Jakob's Wife wrapped its initial shoot in Canton, Mississippi. This sophomore feature comes hot on the heels of Stevens' debut film, Girl on the Third Floor's arrival on Netflix not too long ago. The director is probably best known as a prolific producer behind the scenes of films like Cheap Thrills, We Are Still Here, A Horrible Way to Die, and Buster's Mal Heart. With Jakob's WIfe he finds himself back in the director's chair with a cast of indie horror all-stars. Not only does the Barbara Crampton take up the lead, but independent horror legend Larry Fessenden shares that spotlight in this upcoming film. “The Masked Singer’ has reached week 7 of season 2 but the November 20 episode won’t be lucky for one of the four celebrities competing. They’ll be sent home by the four judges. Singing for the make-or-break votes of the studio audience are four stars disguised as the Flamingo, Flower, Leopard and Rottweiler.
Of this quartet, the strongest singer is the celebrity clad from head to toe as the Flower. She first won us over back in week 3 when she delivered a toe-tapping rendition of the Dolly Parton classic “9 to 5.” In week 5, her voice soared to new heights with her cover of the Sia hit “Cheap Thrills.” And in week 7, she rocked the crowd with her take on “Amazed” by Lonestar.
We’ve studied these three previous performances by the Flower and have repeatedly rewatched her clues video. We are sure we’ve figured out which famous face is hidden underneath that Flower mask.

It’s October, and that means it’s horror movie season. Netflix is ready to scare your pants off with the streaming platform’s latest original horror movie, “Eli.” Check out the trailer below.
Directed by Ciarán Foy (“Sinister 2”), the film follows Eli (Charlie Shotwell from 2016’s “Captain Fantastic”), an 11-year-old boy with an auto-immune disorder who, sheltered from the dangerous environmental stimuli of the world, is checked into a “clean house” for treatment. But he soon discovers that the house is not just “clean” — it’s haunted. Think “Bubble Boy” meets “The Conjuring.” Similarities to the latter are reinforced by the presence of Lili Taylor (star of “The Conjuring” and the recently canceled Netflix series “Chambers”) in the film’s cast. Kelly Reilly (recently seen in TV’s “Yellowstone”) also stars.

Horror is having a heyday right now, with small budget chillers frequently cleaning up at the box office. Variety reports that the latest property to be developed by James Wan's production company Atomic Monster is The Troop, based on the novel by Nick Cutter – and we couldn't be more excited.
The novel was first published in February 2014 and tells the story of a group of boy scouts and their scout leader who take a camping trip to a remote island where they encounter a stranger with a horrible infection.
It's an icky, gross, body horror that also manages to be a moving character study and a Lord Of The Flies-esque psychological thriller – the book is brilliant and won the James Herbert Award For Horror Writing when it came out.

If you're going to be in Austin for SXSW, you're going to have an amazing time, because this year's program --- the Midnighters in particular --- looks awesome. One of the films playing --- Girl on the Third Floor --- is the directing debut of prolific producer and ScreenAnarchy friend Travis Stevens, founder of Snowfort Pictures. He's produced a wealth of insane films that you've probably seen or at least heard of, including Starry Eyes, Cheap Thrills, Buster's Mal Heart, Teenage Cocktail, We Are Still Here, and 68 Kill. Now, it's time for Stevens to slip into the director's chair with the tale of a man who's sprucing up a rundown mansion for his family --- only it appears that the house has other plans (as they sometimes do). Girl on the Third Floor stars WWE...

“Lost Paradise,” from Macau and Hong Kong, won the best project award at the 3rd International Film Festival & Awards Macao’s project market.
To be directed by Tracy Choi Ian-sin and produced by Lai Ching-man, the film will look at a girl’s breakdown after sexual harassment. The story is to be told from the point of view of a close friend.
The award carries a cash prize of $15,000. The producer-director duo will use the funds to find a scriptwriter and develop the project further.
