It’s pretty common for limited series to be Emmy-nominated for both writing and directing, as demonstrated by current dual contenders “Beef” and “Fleishman Is in Trouble,” plus “The White Lotus” and the four 2022 shows it knocked out twice. The same cannot be said, however, for TV movies, which compete directly against non-continuing series in the composite Best Movie/Limited Writing and Directing categories. Prior to this year, no telefilm had achieved this nomination combo since 2014, but Hulu’s “Prey” just closed the gap, signaling a return to form for the genre.
“Prey,” which premiered in August 2022, is also gunning for the Best TV Movie Emmy and picked up bids for its sound editing, picture editing and music composition. Set in 18th century North America and featuring a primarily Indigenous cast, it serves as a prequel to the 1987 theatrical horror film “Predator,” which is now the nexus of a seven-part franchise.

“Jury Duty,” the upcoming docu-style comedy series starring James Marsden as himself, explores truths stranger than fiction when one unsuspecting juror is put in a courtroom of actors for a fake case and a faker documentary.
Marsden leads the “Truman Show”-style misadventure, playing a version of himself who tries – and fails – to get out of his civic duty when the judge fails to recognize him as a public figure. In the first trailer for the Amazon Freevee series, which dropped Tuesday, other characters are seen pushing the envelope of what’s acceptable behavior in the literal court of law – while real-life juror Ronald Gladden goes about his duty being none the wiser that everything is staged.
Coming from the producers of “The Office,” “The White Lotus” and “Bad Trip,” “Jury Duty” is just the latest comedy series to blend genres of reality and scripted, following in the steps of Sacha Baron Cohen,...

Exclusive: There have been whispers for months about a top-secret courtroom docu-style comedy series filming to run on Amazon Freevee. We can reveal that the project, starring James Marsden, is now in post-production and headed to the screen.
“Freevee has confirmed the existence of the docu-style comedy series but details are under wraps amid speculation of the unique, genre-bending format centered around a jury trial,” a rep for the free, ad-supported platform told Deadline, declining further comment.
The secrecy surrounding the filming was driven by the nature of the semi-improvised series which we hear employs a device similar to the setup used in Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat and Brüno movies and the series Who Is America? where actors, often in disguise, interact with unsuspecting regular people.

The Outlaws premieres Friday, April 1, on Prime Video.
TV Fanatic spoke with creators Stephen Merchant and Elgin James about the highly anticipated series.
Check out the interview below.
How did you both wind up working together on The Outlaws?
Stephen Merchant: Well, I had this very vague idea of people doing community service, based on the fact that my parents used to be involved with that world. When I was growing up, it seemed like an interesting environment for drama or comedy.
You could have a group of strangers, and throw them together. That's always good for drama, conflict, and humor. That's all I had, really. I was introduced to Elgin, and we met up, and hit it off. We felt like there was some sort of meat on the bone and developed it together.
Elgin James: Yeah, I was such a big fan of Stephen, like millions of people.

A female-led reboot of the classic sitcom “The Honeymooners,” produced by Damon Wayans Jr., is in the works at CBS.
Written by “Black-ish” and “Mixed-ish” alum Lindsey Shockley, “The Honeymooners” is described as a bold, female-fronted reimagining of the iconic working-class comedy centered around new wife, Ruth, and her husband, Alex, who are determined to have a marriage where they are true equals in every way. But what happens when a marriage has two heads of household? Are they co-heads? Or no head at all?
The multi-cam project — currently in the development stage — hails from CBS Studios, and Wayans Jr. and Kameron Tarlow’s Two Shakes Entertainment, which has a pact with CBS Studios.
The reboot does not yet have cast members attached to it.
The original “The Honeymooners” ran from 1955 to 1956 on CBS. The sitcom was created by and starred Jackie Gleason, and was based on a recurring comedy...

DreamWorks Animation has locked in Oscar winner Geena Davis for a recurring guest role on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the GLAAD- and Emmy-nominated Netflix original series that returns August 2 with its Season 3 adventures.
The casting coup was announced by executive producer Noelle Stevenson during a fireside chat with Davis at the Bentonville Film Festival. The announced theme of that stage conversation: a panel discussing representation and inclusion in entertainment titled “She for She: Power of the Pack.”
Davis voices a character named Huntara, the imposing de facto leader of the Crimson Waste, who reluctantly helps Adora, Glimmer and Bow on a quest. Davis may have a special affinity for the sword-and-sandal scene as an elite archer in her personal life. Davis famously took up archery at age 41 and proved to be such a savant that, just two years later, she narrowly missed on her bid to compete on the U.

The trailer for comedy Good Boys takes the wonder of childhood and adds copious cursing and an array of explicit stuff.
Good Boys appears to be knocking on the genre door of the coarse comedies of the 2000s, notably the bellwether romp, Superbad; a notion that is especially emphatic with Seth Rogen – a producer on the film with repertory partner Evan Goldberg – appearing in an introduction to the comedy’s Red Band trailer.
While the main cast of this comedy – led by Room’s Jacob Tremblay – aren’t even teenagers, there’s a certain innate irony to the film, since, as Rogen points out in his preface, the young stars are not even close to being old enough to watch the trailer for their own movie – due to the things that they do in the film.
Gene Stupnitsky stepped into the Good Boys director’s chair, making his feature film debut.

Jacob Tremblay earned breakout critical acclaim for his performance opposite Brie Larson in “Room,” but he’s about to grow up fast on the big screen in Universal’s R-rated comedy “Good Boys.” Taking the Apatow-inspired raunchy comedy formula and applying it to the lives of 12-year-old middle school children, “Good Boys” aims to prove once and for all that kids really do say the darnedest things.
“Good Boys” centers around a group of middle school friends: Tremblay’s Max, Keith L. Williams’ Lucas, and Brady Noon’s Thor. The group finds themselves in hot water after they destroy a drone belonging to Max’s father. To right their wrong, the three kids decide to skip school and set off on an R-rated odyssey to get a replacement drone, which includes stolen drugs, frat-house paintball, and running from both the cops and terrifying teenage girls.

Chicago – Stephen Merchant is well known for his hilarious takes on über-tall (he’s six-foot-seven) and awkward comedy. He helped create the British “The Office” TV series with longtime collaborator Ricky Gervais, and HBO shows like “Extras” and “Hello Ladies.” He writes and directs his first major feature, the pro wrestling film “Fighting with My Family.”
The film is produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who also makes an appearance in this based-on-truth story of “Paige” (Florence Pugh), a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) mainstay who came from a pro wrestling family in Britain. It’s an insider’s view of the preparation and sacrifice it takes to make the big time, as well as a family story about the odds being stacked against it. You’ll hear the origin of Merchant’s involvement in the Podtalk, told in his unique dry style.

Hello Ladies is more or less the plight of one man that is, in many ways, the every-man that doesn’t rely on looks, money, or insanely lame gimmicks to get the attention of beautiful women that are somehow convinced that they can do better than a man that truly wants to get to know them for more than their looks. The show went off the air in 2014 after a run that was enjoyable but apparently not lucrative enough for HBO. Despite that however it is a funny and engaging show that should be brought back since it was one

“Sense8” fans are about to get their wish. Netflix has announced the premiere date for the show’s special series finale film: the cult sci-fi show will bid a fond farewell on Friday, June 8. Scroll down to see the official key art for the show’s bittersweet conclusion.
The ending of “Sense8” is bittersweet because of how hard fans fought for it. After the second season premiered in 2017 the show was cancelled outright, even though season two ended on a cliffhanger. But passionate outcry from fans of the series prompted Netflix to give the show a proper ending, renewing it for one last adventure, a series finale movie that will allow the show to wrap up its dangling storylines.
This is not unlike the series finale movies that concluded shows like “Looking” and “Hello Ladies” on HBO, and “Derek” on Netflix. The “Hello Ladies” and “Derek” finales both earned Emmy nominations,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for the Netflix limited series, “Godless.” For a spoiler-free review, please click here.]
All in all, “Godless” is a relatively straightforward western — and proud of it. Scott Frank’s limited series wears its emotions on its dirty, tattered sleeve, and the nearly feature-length finale wraps things up in a way that’s satisfying in the specifics more so than any big surprises.
Genre staples are met almost as though they’re being checked off a list. There’s a betrayal. There’s a massacre outside of town. There’s a massive shootout in town. There’s a quickdraw duel between good and evil. There are deaths. There are goodbyes. There’s hope.
In comforting fashion, Frank’s western abides by the formulas and format of the classics and draws to mind the great miniseries of yesteryear (namely, “Lonesome Dove”). But what elevates “Godless” beyond imitation are its subtle yet strong modern touches.

The lovable loser that tries so hard at life and tends to fail more often than not is a story we’ve all heard more than once, but when it’s told in a different voice each time it still manages to be endearing. Hello Ladies was a show written by Stephan Merchant and Lee Eisenberg detailing the life of an Englishman living in La that is almost completely inept when it comes to being social and tries anything and everything he can to find the woman of his dreams. Yes it’s a premise that’s been run a hundred different ways but

Kyle Mooney is beginning to build up his reputation as a fan favorite on Saturday Night Live. He’s known as the “geeky” guy of the crew and his ongoing “relationship” skit with Leslie Jones is by far one of the funniest running segments of the show. There’s never any surprise about the fact that fans are looking forward to the release date of the latest comic/superhero film on home video formats, but there’s some extra news that goes along with the release of Logan.
The film is hitting on May 23rd (May 16th on Digital HD), but adding to the bonuses of this one is the Logan Noir version of the film. Director James Mangold mentioned in the release announcement that he took a lot of black-and-white pictures during production, and he just felt that it worked. “The western and noir vibes of the film seemed to shine in the format and there was not a trace of modern comic hero movie sheen.” Well, now everyone gets to experience the film in that format.

Now that Beauty and the Beast has danced into the record books with huge audience numbers and a record $170 million opening weekend box office haul, it’s fair to say that the “tale as old as time” has struck a chord with moviegoers.

In X-Men: Apocalypse, we spent a brief amount of time with the character Caliban. In the Bryan Singer film, he was played by Tomas Lemarquis. His main role in the overall story was that he had the ability to identify those that possess the X-Gene, he's the one who helped Nightcrawler find his way to the Xavier school, and his assistant Psylocke was poached away by Apocalypse.

Imagine a mix of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Dreamscape, drop in a dash of A Scanner Darkly, and then run it through the blender of insanity that is Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, and the result will probably be pretty damn close to Dream Corp LLC, a new show that hails from executive producers John Krasinski and Stephen Merchant (Hello Ladies, British version of The Office).
The show is set in a “neglected dream therapy facility” where “a rotating cast of desperate patients have their dreams recorded and analyzed” by a kooky professor played by Jon Gries (Napoleon Dynamite’s Uncle Rico), and as you can probably guess from that premise and the network's history of airing bizarre things, this show is going to be straight up trippy. Check out the first trailer below, and if that does it for you, set your DVRs for the premiere...
