Based on a true story about a family on the run from the government, often hiding in small towns, living in poverty.
Jennifer Lawrence was attached to star and produce the movie for a long period of time but dropped out. Brie Larson was cast in the lead role after Lawrence dropped out.
The film portrays both Jeannette and her father being ashamed of Jeannette writing a gossip column. In the book however, Jeannette Walls defends herself writing about the rich and famous and what she sees as her bringing them down a peg. Rex Walls doesn't seem to have a problem with it either, and even helping her with some of her stories.
Sadie Sink, having already been a vegetarian, became a vegan after being inspired by Woody Harrelson and his family, with whom she became very close.
