Opening scene in French Lick says 1974 but when Bird opens his scrapbook a few scenes later the headline reads 1976.
A boy at Magic's basketball camp opened a Ramblin Root Beer can that had a pop top. This was in the summer of 1981, but pop top aluminum cans had been phased out by 1980 and the canned soda/beer industry had transformed to StaTabs, the kind still used today.
The scenes supposedly with Larry Bird in French Lick, Indiana were obviously filmed in California, with the scrub brush hills in the background along with live oak and eucalyptus trees, which are not found in southern Indiana.
