The BBC One series Boat Story is a harrowing tale about drugs and violence set in a quaint British town where seemingly nothing ever happens. Much of the events of the series are depicted through the shock these small-town folks are experiencing over something even happening in this hamlet of a town. Even the police don’t take things seriously, and well, the NHS is being NHS even in this limited series.
All in all, I like the different trajectories that British cinema is taking. Boat Story itself is a Tarantino-esque production. Maybe not that good, but it’s got eccentric characters, guns, drugs, and violence. But someone like me who has absolutely no association with the US or the UK, except for a heavy media consumption habit, would kind of like watching a series like Boat Story. The Americans have used this formula already, but who doesn’t like...

It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.

The inclusion of right-wing firebrand politician Nigel Farage and Jamie Lynn Spears in this year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! failed to spark gangbuster ratings for last night’s launch episode, although you wouldn’t think so reading Gb News producer Ben Leo’s X timeline.
Leo, who is in Australia covering the show featuring Gb News presenter Farage, tweeted this morning that the series opener had been watched by 9.1 million people and a peak of 10.3 million. The figure is in fact 7 million and 7.8 million respectively – I’m a Celeb’s lowest for several years. Leo appears to have been confusing last night’s ratings with 2022’s and hasn’t yet taken his tweet down, which led with “Farage Sparks Bombshell Ratings.”

The BBC has released the first trailer for the six-part thriller Boat Story, starring Daisy Haggard and Paterson Joseph.
At its core, ‘Boat Story’ is a thriller with a darkly comic heart about two ordinary people whom the world has turned its back on, and whether they’re willing – or desperate enough – to do something crazy to get what they want in life. Pushed to the very edge, can they trust each other and get away with their lives and the money?
The story embodies twists and turns with character-driven, surprising storytelling. Off-beat humour contrasts with high-octane action sequences against the spectacular backdrop of the beautiful, windswept Yorkshire coastline.
Also starring is Tchéky Karyo, Joanna Scanlan, Craig Fairbrass and Phil Daniels.

Global production juggernaut All3Media, led by veteran CEO Jane Turton, produces 4,000 hours of content annually. It has not only made headlines with such hit productions as The Traitors, The Tourist, Life on Our Planet, Boat Story and the upcoming Squid Game: The Challenge, but also the fact that co-owners Warner Bros. Discovery and Liberty Global recently kicked off a sales process for the company.
“This could be a catalyst for consolidation and really help transform other studio businesses,” Liberty Global CEO Mike Fries explained in September. “All3 is an incredible business. The management team, the assets, the studios they have are world-class. We love Jane, we love what All3Media does.”
For THR‘s feature on the 35 Most Powerful Women in International Television, Turton answered a few quick questions.
What was the biggest professional challenge you faced this past year?
Uncertainty. This has been a common theme over the past few years.

Coming off another year marked by uncertainty and conflict, ordinary, unlikely heroes take center stage in a slew of new shows. While crime especially the Nordic-inspired kind is not going anywhere, and there are quite a few spectacles waiting around the corner, including Mipcom world premiere “Concordia,” intimate stories about families and friends butting heads but ultimately trying to come together continue to dominate the market stage. There are also more portrayals of strong, complicated women who dare to dream big today or in the past. The following is a list of some of the buzziest titles at Mipcom.
“After the Party”
(ITV Studios)
Penny Wilding (played by Robyn Malcolm) likes to keep herself very busy: she is a science teacher, basketball coach, environmental activist, mother and grandmother. Famously outspoken and suffering no fools, she alienates many in her close-knit community. But Penny is perfectly fine with that.

Questions (and concerns) about AI will come to the foreground at this year’s Mipcom international co-production and content market, which runs Oct. 16–19 in Cannes. Alongside the thousands of buyers and preeminent audiovisual execs expected to hit the mart, immersive producers, media regulators and legal experts will take the stage for an Oct. 17 “Unlocking AI” summit meant to address ethical concerns and better contextualize those two anxiety-inducing vowels on everyone’s mind.
“We are staging this summit because AI has universal importance in each of the 100 different countries that attend Mipcom,” says event director Lucy Smith. “And we hope our contributors can both demonstrate and demystify [the new technology].”
Hewing along more traditional lines, October’s edition will kick off with an event screening of the Secuoya Studios’ “Zorro,” a small screen comeback for the swashbuckling Don Diego de la Vega — here played by “Elite” and “1899” star Miguel Bernardeau — in a production...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for series five of Ghosts
Somehow, the final series of Ghosts has neatly tied up all the show’s loose ends while still leaving us wanting more – which is a jolly good thing considering they’ve confirmed we’re getting one more Christmas special in December 2023.
They really packed a lot into those last six episodes, revealing the heartbreaking truth behind the deaths of Kitty and the Captain, showing Alison and Mike’s next step in life, and giving the whole gang the opportunity to say all the lovely, touching things fans wanted to hear (as well as adding a poignant reference to Mary in the opening credits).
Taking the characters on these final journeys involved lots of flashbacks and new faces, so let’s recap all the most important guest stars from series five:

We here at HeyUGuys always love a good chat with Craig Fairbrass, this time to promote the latest film from the popular Rise of the Footsoldier movie series. The latest, entitled “Vengeance”, sees the actor reprise the fan-favourite role of Pat Tate.
We discussed the popularity of the character, and what audiences can expect from this latest entry. He also talks about the talented ensemble, while looking back to Cliffhanger, a film that means a lot to the actor, and recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. He also looks ahead, to the exciting new crime series Boat Story.

Correction: Craig accidentally referred to Boat Story co-star Joanna Scanlan as “Patricia”, and has since reached out to correct the mistake.

Crime dramas can sit on a pretty broad spectrum: some are campy, cosy and even comfortingly formulaic, whereas others make you need to sleep with the light on. The one guarantee is that in the UK at least, there’s such an appetite for detectives and crime stories that TV will never run out of new cases to solve.
We’ve already had some top examples in 2023, from the Happy Valley and Endeavour finales to the excellent Belfast-based Blue Lights, but there are plenty more fresh crime dramas on the way, from police procedurals to true crime and murder mysteries. See what’s coming up below.
After The Flood
Very much what it says on the tin, After The Flood begins… after a flood, which devastates a town, but when the waters clear they leave behind an unidentified dead man in the lift of an underground car park. PC Joanna Marshall is on the case,...

After five years of quietly gathering steam within the international TV community, the 2023 edition of the London TV Screenings is its biggest outing yet.
Running Feb. 27 to March 3, the event features more than 25 distributors and 400 buyers. But how did the confab evolve from a set of casual screenings by rival distributors of the BBC into an event that now rivals MipTV in Cannes?
Its genesis goes back to 1976, when BBC Showcase was created from 25 European buyers gathering in Brighton’s Old Ship Hotel to watch episodes of shows such as “Fawlty Towers,” and buy such programs for audiences back in their home countries. The showcase then moved to other locations, including Edinburgh and Harrogate, before returning to Brighton, and eventually relocating to Liverpool in 2012.
