It’s an interesting month on HBO and Max this March, as two acclaimed films hit the streamer along with some intriguing original programming.
First up in the movies arena is the streaming debut of Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet. From beloved Paddington director Paul King, the film follows the adventures of a young Willy Wonka as he looks to become the world’s best (and weirdest) chocolatier. Later in March on Max, there’s also Dream Scenario, a highly-regarded comedy boasting Nicolas Cage as Paul Matthews, who suddenly starts appearing in people’s dreams for unknown reasons, and who naturally becomes very famous as a result of this strange phenomena.
Series-wise, the biggest show on Max this month is The Regime. It packs a solid cast, including Kate Winslet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant, and tells the story of “life within the walls of a modern...

The two big original releases on Netflix this month are Spaceman and 3 Body Problem. In Spaceman, Adam Sandler plays an astronaut alone and far from home who desperately wants to fix things with his wife. When he discovers an enormous alien spider in the bowels of his ship, a conversation between the two gets underway, and Sandler has a chance to make some big changes. To be clear: this is not a comedy!
Meanwhile, new sci-fi series 3 Body Problem hails from Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Along with True Blood writer Alexander Woo, they’ve spun a tale that is set to blow your mind this March. Your mileage may vary, but it certainly looks interesting! And hey, we all love the show’s star, Benedict Wong.

Petr Jancarek’s ‘Havel Speaking’ Captures Czech Ex-President’s Bittersweet Foray Into Film Directing
Petr Jancarek’s chronicle of the last years of Vaclav Havel’s life, “Havel Speaking, Can You Hear Me?,” screening in its world premiere at the Ji.hlava Intl. Documentary Film Festival, is as naturalistic and down to earth as its subject.
The director, who filmed the former Czech president for nearly a decade in various capacities, says Havel was unlike any national leader he ever knew. “I could see this modest person who is incredibly hardworking,” Jancarek recalls, “a true director of everything, standing by his beliefs, despite discomfort or loss of personal freedom.”
In the years before Havel’s death in 2011, Jancarek filmed hundreds of hours behind the scenes as the one-time dissident playwright, who found himself leading then Czechoslovakia in the wake of the 1989 Velvet Revolution, endeavored to complete his life dream, directing a feature film.

In the ever-evolving landscape of music, where digital platforms dominate and streaming services reign supreme, one might wonder: Do album covers still hold any significance? After all, with the rise of digital music consumption, physical albums seem to be on the decline. However, beneath the surface lies a hidden world of artistic wonders, where album covers continue to play a pivotal role in capturing the essence of an artist’s vision. In this blog post, we will explore the advantages of album covers created with an album cover art maker like Vista Create and how they contribute to the overall music experience.
The Visual Gateway to Musical Exploration
At first glance, an album cover may appear as nothing more than a visual representation of an artist or band. However, it serves as a gateway to the auditory journey that awaits the listener. The cover art is often the first point...

Content removals are a sad truth in the streaming industry. People love seeing their favorite title added to a streaming service, but they must always be aware that if the series doesn’t attain the proper levels of viewership for the platform it resides on, it might eventually get pulled so the streamer isn’t paying maintenance costs on a series that doesn’t earn that money back.
Most streaming platforms in the industry are cutting titles these days, and now Netflix is preparing to shed some content. Starting in August, and continuing through October, Netflix will pull seven series from its service, all of which feature a Black lead performer. Unlike recent cuts from Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Disney, these aren’t Netflix Originals, but are instead shows from the long-extinct Upn broadcast channel, which the world’s largest streamer licensed in 2020. Those agreements are ending over the next few months,...

What is said at a comedy show does not stay at a comedy show. Weekend Update co-anchor and Saturday Night Live co-head writer Michael Che learned that this past weekend when a comment he made Friday during a pop-up show at a Minneapolis hair salon made national headlines.
“This is my last year,” Che said during the set, according to the Star Tribune. “You know my tie is a clip-on, right? What man wears a clip-on tie to work for eight years — that’s embarrassing.”
The story was picked up by a number of publication, prompting Che to take to Instagram on Sunday and weigh in, next to a screen shot of HuffPo’s headline “‘Saturday Night Live’ Co-Head Writer Michael Che Says He’s Leaving ‘Weekend Update'”.
“To comedy fans; please stop telling reporters everything you hear at a comedy show. youre spoiling the trick,” Che wrote.

While the other streaming services set up recurring franchises, Hulu has opted to get a bit more experimental with its original offerings in August 2021.
Hulu’s list of new releases this month is highlighted by three original series concepts with promise. Reservation Dogs premieres on August 9. Co-created by Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), this story will follow four indigenous teenagers in Oklahoma as they stave off boredom and adulthood. Next up is Nine Perfect Strangers on August 18. This miniseries, based on a book of the same name, is produced by David E. Kelley and features staggering cast of Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Samara Weaving, and more.
Only Murders in the Building is likely the biggest thing to look forward to in August though. Premiering on August 31, this comedy stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as three true crime-obsessed friends who stumble into a true crime of their own.

Steve Zahn was running a few minutes late because he was tending to a horse who had had surgery and needed bandages redressed. “Life on a farm is serene,” says Zahn, “until your horse goes lame and you have to turn into a vet.” The actor has spent the past two decades living in rural Kentucky — and 2020 marked the longest stretch of a project not pulling him away from the homestead. So when he got a call to star with Connie Britton, Natasha Rothwell and Murray Bartlett in HBO’s The White Lotus, a darkly comic miniseries ...

As the year winds down, streaming services appear to be taking a step back, licking their wounds from this strange pandemic production season, and looking to a hopefully brighter future. This is all to say that Hulu‘s list of new releases for December 2020 isn’t quite its most inspiring batch yet…and that’s Ok.
Hulu’s biggest original title this month is undoubtedly The Hardy Boys. This adaptation of the classic boy detective novels is aimed at younger audiences and will premiere on Dec. 4. Then, near the end of the month, Hulu is bringing a new season of a show that is decidedly not for younger audiences. Season 9 of the very funny and very Canadian Letterkenny arrives on Dec. 26.
Hulu also has some recent movies of note coming in December including Amy Seimetz’s diabolical She Dies Tomorrow on Dec. 4 and children’s movie The Secret Garden on Dec.

If you were concerned about there being a content drought in August due to the coronavirus pandemic shutting down Hollywood, you were…absolutely right in those concerns.
For its new releases in August 2020, Hulu is following Apple, Disney, and even Peacock’s lead in taking things nice and slowly. The vast majority of the notable offerings here are of the library variety. Hulu adds classic movies like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Rain Man, and Top Gun on August 1. Those go along with the very much still-holds-up Casino Royale on August 31.
Hulu also has room for some interesting recent indie movies like Ordinary Love (Aug. 3) and Peanut Butter Falcon (Aug. 6). But when it comes to Hulu original content there’s not much going on. The unheralded Find Me in Paris debuts its third season on August 21. That is followed by original comedy The Binge on August 28. And that’s about it!

Glue, the highly-anticipated new drama series created and written by BAFTA-winning writer Jack Thorne, comes to E4 on Monday 15th September at 10:00pm.
Set in a small village called Overton, it's about the murder of a boy, and how it affects his friends and the community that they live in.
Yasmine Paige plays Ruth Rosen, a 20 year old provisional police officer from a Romany background. She and her Romany mum are estranged from the travelling community, but that doesn’t stop Ruth. Not much does. Not being a young single mum, or the fact that she lives in the same village as a group of friends who no longer talk to her. She’s made of stronger stuff, or at least she thinks she is. Yasmine (represented by Curtis Brown), starred in the critically-acclaimed Submarine, and was named as a Screen International Star of Tomorrow in 2010.
Charlotte Spencer plays 19 year old Tina Fallon.

Never meet your heroes. Or so states the tagline for Andy Goddard’s feature-length debut. Far from a paint-by-numbers biopic, the Downton Abbey alumnus makes the leap to silver screen with an understated elegance, only snowflakes and the swirling of cigarette smoke fracturing Chris Seager’s crisp black and white casing. This may be a world of post-war dreamers, but the choice of monochrome certifies Set Fire to the Stars worthy of timeless status.
Harvard graduate and poetry teacher John Brinnin’s (Elijah Wood) precise opening steps accompany his equally meticulous repetition of tour dates prepared for literary hero, Dylan Thomas (Celyn Jones, also on writing duties). But it is clear from the initial jazz-dowsed introductions that Brinnin will remain the steady bassline, Thomas the improvising drums and brass. Recounting the celebrated Welsh poet’s first trip to America, breaking their first host’s Crock-Pot is the least of this magnificently cast duo’s worries.

In her latest film Helen McCrory is once again playing a mature woman with a youthful lover. And why not, she asks? Though in real life, they'd have to fight off her husband, Damian Lewis, aka Brody from Homeland…
