Good enough
tenlegdragon2 July 2013
Remember Hellcats? Ever wish that it would cut the amount of cheese and angst in half and just have a relevant storyline? Hit The Floor is VH1's attempt at getting Hellcats right. A lot of the cheese is cut through. So far, we don't have any characters trying to get a grip on God vs Evolution.

The main protagonist is black, her mom is black, the evil bitch cheerleader (because there has to be one) is also black, as are the two guys involved in the burgeoning love triangle... but I don't think it falls into the "black show" category. There's enough white/ latino/ non-black people included in key roles to make it not a "black show". Or at least, it's a "black, but not exclusively black, show".

It's on VH1, not BET.

Also: it's not done by Tyler Perry; stars Dean Cain; has a good enough number of whodunnit subplots running through it to make it quasi-mysterious, like a ABC Family show dialed way down; good music and actual dancing by people who can dance. Not to say that they hired dancers and gave them an "acting for dummies" crash course - the acting mightn't be top notch from everyone all the time, but it's not jarring, and no way near as cringe-worthy as anything on CW. It's at a Friday Night Lights level.

All the characters, from the foolishly naive protagonist, to the fallen from grace single mom, to the HBIC, to the country girl hooker/stripper, to the clingy-ish poverty-riddled boyfriend - they're all tolerable. No one crosses over too far into "unlikeable" territory, and no one spends too much time there as to become hateful. Honestly, I'm most invested in the Country Stripper who's a self proclaimed unashamed gold-digger - she's just awesome.

It's not Breaking Bad or The Borgias, but it's not trying to be. Definitely in the guilty pleasure category, but it's entertaining. Bottom line - it's entertaining! In a new age soap opera, rnb/country/dubstep professional Tiny/Private Dancer kinda way. With good music featuring a diverse lot of people who are easy on the eyes.

And there's Dean Cain. No Van Der Beek, but, lol, Dean Cain people! How can you not give this a chance?

The only thing missing maybe is the actual basketball... We don't get a lot of that. I don't think they've even shown a game. Or five minutes of a game. But as I'm not into basketball, at all, that doesn't detract much.

Fun; Entertaining
rk15794 July 2013
The show has a racially diverse cast. They are all beautiful. Especially Logan Browning, the sexy and opportunistic villain. I can not wait to see more of Katherine Bailess. She makes the show sexy and fun to watch. I love the dancing! Great show! My only wish is that there were full episodes of the show available to watch on a mobile platform so that I could enjoy the show at work. The music adds energy to the show. It's current and gives another level of dimension to the show. I can not wait to see more of the characters develop. It's refreshing to see actors who are physically beautiful and are actually able to "act". They may not be as intense as Julia Roberts or Al Pacino, but I don't think the show is made to be intense, but rather entertaining. It hits the mark!

great show abroad... take a break "Cafesmitty from Maryland"
flyonglories10 February 2016
Poor Cafesmitty from Maryland: hopefully I'm not a English native speaker so I didn't understand all of your bullshit complains about the great vh1' show. From abroad at least the show succeed to explain to the poor European that we are what is going on between US and the cheerleaders. Of course as the girl got most of the powerlessness shown on screen end that one of the most unassertive love story is between two (f... hot) gays, I assume that was too much for you Cafesmitty...And as someone already said :"A show does not need to have A-list actors and Emmy caliber dialog/scripts to still be entertaining. I watch shows to be entertained, not to critique the dialog." Of course it's not Broth&Sist but it's not trying to be and at least It's not Breaking Bad or The xth zombie'series.... primal pleasure , but it's entertaining.

Hot Fun Dramatic
bootznstuff8 July 2013
Very exciting, fun, with a dramatic twist. The dancing is an added bonus. It isn't a black or white thing but a mixed cast very refreshing. The acting is very good. You will fall in love with the characters even the ones you don't like. The cast have strong chemistry.

You don't just get to see the lives of the players. You get to see inside the life of the dancers for a change. I love the fact that the dancers have real different personalities, not stereotypical. Some of the dancers are independent and don't care about meeting a baller for money and others are the complete opposite.

I would recommend this show to everyone.

Hit the Floor -- a positive review.
ravenscorpion25 June 2013
I like the show.

Its fun, and many of the characters are fun to watch, especially Asha and the cute yet so evil Jelena.

A show does not need to have A-list actors and Emmy caliber dialog/scripts to still be entertaining. I watch shows to be entertained, not to critique the dialog.

This show reminds me somewhat of the Hellcats TV series a couple of years ago, but with less focus on the actual cheering and more on the behind the scenes drama. That show only lasted a year though as network TV has higher ratings requirements than Cable. Being a VH1 series I'm hopeful for a second season.

Worse
jaunipol15 July 2014
This show should be cancelled...the worse actors/actress and story line. This show is just going nowhere...dragging out for no reason whatsoever. It's like i have absolutely no clue whats going on with all these characters. They seem to have some hidden secret that we the viewers have to spend all season trying to figure out. LHATL is a fake reality show but i tell you what...they do a pretty darn good job at pretending in front of the cameras than these set of people who are paid actors. Please VH1 find us another show in that time slot. Don't these writers watch Breaking Bad..Sons of Anarchy...walking dead etc? these shows get to the point quickly and move on to the next story line. No villain should be floating around untouched for so long...it's ridiculous!! Please VH1 cancel this show already..Please!!!!...Please!!!! Please !!!!.

Awesome

Warning: Spoilers
I love this show and I only hope that VH1 will not cancel it. I would be very disappointed. Thanks for a great show. I love the story line between Ahsha and Derek. I think that they are great together. I hate that the actress who played Raquel decided to leave. She was one of my other favorites. It is nice to see Dean Cain acting acting again, you have some awesome actors and actress. I still can not believe that someone shot Jelena. That is one reason that we need season 4 so that we can find out who shot her. I think Ahsha done it or maybe Sloan. However it could be anyone she is hateful but loving. I thought that the dance for Raquel was the very best dance for that season. I cried when she died like I am sure others did.

WHY MAKING A 4TH SEASON TO RUIN THE SERIES?
serendipityhope8 November 2018
I will never get why they cannot stop a series when it's time and they go on to ruin all of it with terribble storylines that makes no sense at all. Hit The Floor has been very enjoyable with characters you easily came to care for up to the special episode 3x11 and than they had to ruin it with a 4th series that's completely surreal and ruins all the characters. if you decide to watch this tv shows stop at 3x11 which actually had a good finale and don't waste your time past that

AMAZING TV show
petala_guimaraes5 September 2016
This series is wonderful, because it is on television some conflicts that happen in real life. And besides representing homosexuality in a great way, with a very lovely couple and very successful on and off the show. We love Jude and Zero, they are perfect, and show the relationship of a simple, spontaneous and majestic why the world loves them. Addresses beyond homosexuality, we like drugs, addictions, friendship, companionship, greed, envy and murder. All this covered in a simple, easy to understand and that is not a very heavy thing. It also shows sex as a natural thing, as it has to be, not a thing erotica or in an aggressive manner which is a great thing for the series. It shows the life of people trying to be something else, follow your dreams, achieve their goals. Due to be a great series, Jude and Zero are a couple that appeals to everyone, HIT THE FLOOR series should be renewed for 4th season. And those who have not watched run and watch soon!

Worse Acting, Writing, Directing for a debut in recent memory
cafesmitty28 May 2013
So I watch another program on VH1 and I saw the adverts for this show. Being a straight guy, I figure the show would be tailored made for me, hot chicks wearing skimpy outfits dancing to a good grove. I couldn't be more wrong. The chicks are hot, but the writing, acting. music and directing is so atrocious that it inspired me to read, go hiking, count the imperfections in my ceiling.. anything but watch this show. The characters are cookie cutter characters... the new and kind girl who wants to be friends with everyone. The head evil cheerleader who is extremely mean spirited. Throw in the love interest, the basketball player who LITERALLY gets run into by accident by the new girl. And throw in the most unlikely person to play a coach of a head basketball team, Dean Cain (Lois & Clark). How this show ever get green-lit it is beyond me but it is a complete garbage of a show. The tryouts, the dancing tryouts? Uninspiring. Completely horrible. It as if this show has no one coordinating as they "actresses" (use very loosely) basically spin and hop like a chicken with it's head cut off that ran into an electrified fence! Then the worse of worse... line delivery... I am not even remotely an expert but I know bad when i hear it and it doesn't even measure up as "good" as bad. In the end, here is a show about cheer leading tryouts in the NBA, and a cheer squad, in a sunny location, with hot women in revealing outfits, throw in a relative hip hop beat, and it is the most boring thing on TV. Enough to stop me watching the moment that the cheerleader ran into the NBA player... (and the NBA player.. just some random black guy they probably grab from a local Olive Garden or Applebee's). And by the Power of my remote control, I have vanquished thee from my television.

Awesome and Addicting

Warning: Spoilers
Love this show. The entire series is fantastic so far.Every single actor and actress is amazing. Overall great show I would go higher then a ten if I could. The writing is genius. I am kept at the edge of my seat for the entire show and I can never guess whats going to happen next. absolutely brilliant show. #Amazing #Awesome #totsamazballs

In last week's episode titled "Carrying," Sloane was arrested for the death of Olivia. Her arrest was made after she once said that she hated Olivia. Episode 7 also depicted the end of German and Ahsha's troubled relationship. He finally found out that his girlfriend still harbours feelings for her ex, and let her go. These relationship problems resounded in Jelena and Terrence's hassle free relationship. Jelena (Logan Browning) found that her fiancé was soon going to be a father to an unborn kid. This threw her off guard and she suggested that they do a test to confirm if the baby is indeed Terrence's. #can't wait

Best show ever
evelynekemartin14 October 2016
About Hit the floor:

My sister and I watch a lot of series on the internet, but this is definitely one of the best series ever made. So much fun to watch.

Lots of drama, comedy, romance and great dancing! Great cast as well. They all have great energy together. Season 3 was so exciting I had to watch the whole season in 1 day! Almost :)

The actors can dance for a change / the dancers can act for a change. You can see they all have great technique. That for me is also important.

Can't wait for season 4. I hope there also will be a season 5, 6, ... I would even vote 11 out of 10.

Too Cliché
coljam2127 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I had such high hopes for this show mainly because Kimberly Elise was a part of it and I think she is a very talented actor. Never in a million years did I think she would ever associate herself with this juvenile, campy, sophomoric cliché travesty. I recorded the entire season one marathon 2 days ago and figured I would spend the holiday weekend relaxing on the couch with a belly full of Bbq and 9 episodes of this show for entertainment. Sadly I could not even get through the first episode.

Too many clichés for me, from the naïve girl who makes her single mom believe she's going to a job interview at a bank, but instead goes to try out for the basketball cheerleading squad, to the bitchy cheerleading captain who is threatened by the new girl and tries to give her hell, and oh let's not forget the one girl on the squad who tries to protect the new girl……YAWN. Watched it for about 38 minutes before I switched it off, but I already know that the new naïve girl will make the squad and drama will ensue between her and the captain blah, blah, blah. No thanks I'll pass.

If it weren't for Brent Antonello and Kristian Kordula.....
Fleharty8 September 2023
.....kissing (devouring each other) in each episode, this tripe wouldn't be worth the time I spent on it. The truth is, it's the only reason I watched it.

I'll thank them and the producers for giving us that much, at least. Ibsen, this ain't; but it doesn't try to be. It's "Hooters" in different costumes. Predictable, snoozy and boring. There have been myriad opportunities over the eight decades of television to make it anything but vapid and vacuous, but smart money is not on entertaining and educating; it's on stuff like this, more and more. I gave this one star each for Brent and Kristian, and one star for diversity of the females in the "cast". The other seven stars I'm giving to almost anything and everything else.

So much potential...what happened??
ellaronci12 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Im halfway through S2 (the reason im reviewing now is because thats probably where im stopping) and honestly could not tell you a single thing about the storyline, much less anything that took place in season 1. In other words, i could not be less invested in this show. I started watching it after seeing some zero/jude edits on youtube and for having so much promise, it just fell so short. I will say I like the diverse cast, all the actresses are gorgeous, the dancing is great and some of the storylines could have been really interesting but the show just failed to grab my attention and make me care about the characters. For example, when Olivia got fired in s1 i honestly didnt care because i didnt care about her as a character, and (dont hate me), but when she died it was still kind of meh. They didnt develop her character enough for her death or the aftermath to leave much of an impact on me. TBH i didnt even remember Dereks name for most of the first season. Most shows I remember specific bits of, iconic lines or scenes that i really liked, but for this show when i try to think back, theres nothing. Not a single scene that i can quote exactly which is rare for me, even after only one watch. Kyle had a few scenes that were close, but none of them stuck out because of the writing, they were all because of the actress. If you want a drama show you dont have to think much about and dont have to get invested in, and you like dancing/basketball, then sure, give this show a shot, but otherwise its not worth your time.

Edit: I continued watching to see what happened with zero and jude, and yes, its a cute gay storyline but it feels like it came out of nowhere and was underdeveloped, like everything in this show.

Edit 2: Season 3 was definitely way better then S1/2, still not great, but I enjoyed watching a lot of the episodes and it didnt feel like i was watching 12 episodes of filler. S4 drops back down, the plots were weak again and kind of confusing. There were way to many new characters and the old ones seemed to sort of disappear without any explanation.
