Though only airing on BBC Scotland, I am a fan of Rab Florence's work and watched the first season of the show on the iPlayer, last year. I hoped that the second season would be relatively prompt and indeed it was, arriving in the run up to Christmas.
Colette (Louise McCarthy) and Darren (Lee Grieg) are now well into their pregnancy, and host a gender reveal party. Vincent (Rab Florence) is desperate to prove his worth to the family, beyond the "one with all the money" and comes to question whether his and Vonny's (Shauna Macdonald) decision not to have children was the right one. Henry (Iain Connell) is struggling too, with the isolation of being stuck in the office of his scaffolding film and with his wife, Laura (Sharon Young) being out of the house having established her café.
So, it's more of the same really. It's a funny sitcom, that I occasionally forget is supposed to be a reality show, although there are a couple of scenes in this one that bring that concept home a bit more. It's also still got quite a big emotional heart. As with the last season, it's about the male characters not opening up about their true feelings until it comes to a dramatic head.
On top of that, for me, there is the fact that Florence, and his writing partner Connell, pepper the show with references to their interests, wrestling, video games and pop culture that are also my interests. Warhammer 40,000K plays a big part in one of the episodes and, though I don't play that myself, I like the attention to details that has gone into that.
I hope that, despite not crossing over out of Scotland, in the way something like "Still Game" did - there is enough opportunity for "The Scotts" to find an audience that a third season is commissioned.
