Bloodthirst is from the folks at Mahal Empire, last year they gave us their version of the zombie apocalypse, Bridge of the Doomed. This year they’re revisiting the apocalypse, only in Bloodthirst the threat comes from a different strain of the undead, vampires. Interestingly, both films were directed by Michael Su and written by Adrian Milnes this time with a story credit to Massimiliano Cerchi
In the world of Bloodthirst two factions of vampires fight for control of what’s left of the planet. What’s left of humanity is caught in the middle and rapidly heading for extinction, something that would doom the vampires as well. John Shepard walks that world as a vampire hunter who’s on the trail of The Master Vampire.

With her 2022 Emmy victory for “Hacks,” Jean Smart became the seventh woman to take the Best Comedy Actress prize for both of her show’s first two seasons and, at age 70, broke her own record as the category’s oldest winner. Her history-making performance in her submitted episode, “The Click,” amounted to 21 minutes, translating to a sizable 62.31% of the roughly half-hour installment. If she were nominated for the exact same performance this year, however, she would land toward the bottom of the lineup’s screen time ranking.
Since “Hacks” has yet to return for a third season, Smart is incapable of retaining her title for a second time. The five current nominees (two of whom were bested by Smart last year) boast a screen time average of 27 minutes and 50 seconds, or 55.89% of their chosen episodes. Poker Face pulled off many things in its debut season. With its murder-mystery-of-the-week plot in a new spin on the detective genre, the Natasha Lyonne-starring Peacock series from Rian Johnson revived the concept of procedural television for streaming, saw Benjamin Bratt turn a catchy Blues Traveler song into a poetic monologue and recruited Star Wars legend Phil Tippett for one episode’s special effects. But perhaps most impressive, Poker Face assembled an eye-popping roster of guest stars.

Rian Johnson‘s “Poker Face” has emerged as one of the most enjoyable new TV series of the last year as he returns to the murder-mystery genre with this episodic, case-of-the-week format that clearly delights those on-screen as much as it does those watching it.
The comedy show follows Natasha Lyonne as Charlie, who has an uncanny ability to determine if somebody is lying. She goes on the run from the casino she used to work at after a suspicious death occurs and then, on her travels, she meets a vast array of colorful characters as she solves a new murder each week on her road trip.
Each week presents new actors having the time of their lives and one of those people is the Oscar-winning Adrien Brody, who features as Sterling Frost Jr, the casino manager who is also the son of Ron Perlman‘s ruthless Sterling Frost Snr.

When Rian Johnson comes to television, he does so with a “big swing,” as music supervisor Thomas Golubić puts it. The multiple Emmy and Grammy nominee is on board for Johnson’s “Poker Face” starring Natasha Lyonne, who also executive produces the hour-long dark comedy.
A former Guild of Music Supervisors president, and three-time Gms Award winner, most notably for “Breaking Bad,” Golubic brings his more than 20 years of music supervision experience to “Poker Face.”
The first season put Golubić’s cross-section of skills to the test with hurdles like difficult clearances to on-camera musical performances and creation of original songs. Golubić met these challenges head-on with support from his team at SuperMusicVision, which includes Olivia Schlichting and clearance services by Jill Meyers Music.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Poker Face, Season 1, Episode 1, “Dead Man’s Hand.”] Peacock‘s highly-anticipated mystery-of-the-week series Poker Face has arrived and begins its run with four very different murders, none more important though than the premiere’s scene-setting story. Introducing viewers to Natasha Lyonne‘s human lie-detector character Charlie Cale, the opening episode sees her run into a situation at work when her pal Natalie (Dascha Polanco) winds up dead. Unlike the episodes following this one, viewers are clued into what led to Natalie’s demise in the opening minutes. A housekeeper at Frost Casino, Natalie discovers what is presumably child pornography (viewers are never shown) on the open computer of a high-roller guest. Snapping a photo herself, she rushes out to find Cliff (Benjamin Bratt), the right-hand man of current Casino boss Sterling Frost Jr. (Adrien Brody). As she’s escorted to Sterling’s office, the three discuss what Natalie has seen and...

After emerging from another season of Russian Doll’s mind warp, Natasha Lyonne threw herself into a new character.
This time, it was Charlie Cale, the star of her and creator Rian Johnson’s new Peacock series Poker Face. And there are some big distinctions between Nadia — her time-looping and time-traveling lead on the formerly mentioned Emmy-winning Netflix series she co-created — and Charlie, her on-the-run “human lie detector” who anchors the murder mystery-of-the-week Peacock show.
“Nadia is a bit more of a city slicker. She’s got more Lou Reed in her. And Charlie is more like The Dude from The Big Lebowski,” Lyonne, who also writes, directs and executive produces for Poker Face, tells The Hollywood Reporter when comparing her two TV roles. “Charlie sort of has the sun at her back, lives in the desert. She’s not in too much of a rush. And she...

Midway through the “Poker Face” premiere, Adrien Brody’s smarmy casino boss recounts the legend behind Natasha Lyonne’s card-playing prowess. “She played straight,” Sterling Frost Jr. says. “And yet she played with an almost unnatural infallibility.” Soon, we find out why: Lyonne’s Charlie Cale always knows when someone’s lying. Whether it’s her best friend promising she’s fine after a fight with her husband or a stranger trying to bluff his way to the pot, Charlie sniffs out bullshit every time it drifts her way. “Just that something is off,” she says by way of explanation. “I can just tell.”
Charlie’s miraculous modus operandi — the ace up her sleeve, if you will — isn’t just a savvy twist for a TV detective; it also doubles as an explanation for how great storytellers should present a mystery. Even when watching a con, audiences don’t want...

With a good portion of contemporary television obsessed with reboots, reimaginings, and revivals, it’s somewhat odd that that same amount of energy isn’t necessarily given to series that function more as homages and pastiches that also maintain their own singularity. But as writer-director Rian Johnson proves with his Peacock series “Poker Face,” that is arguably a more refreshing approach to the form — using a familiar structure to create a new, unique story.
Johnson has made perfectly clear just how much “Poker Face” series is an homage to classic procedurals like “Columbo,” “Murder, She Wrote,” and “Magnum P.I.,” specifically telling a new “whydunnit” story with each episode that throws back to the ’70s and ’80s but is set in modern day. And alongside series showrunners Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, Johnson absolutely succeeds, to the point that — early on — it’s sometimes jarring to even see a cellphone or a vape pen in the series.
