Charlie presents new patient Mel to his civil therapy group, unaware it's his 'slumpbuster' from Beloit, Wisconson, which he once picked up as ugliest pie-eating contest girl in the superstitious hope to reboot his minor league baseball career. He never called, but she never stopped dreaming about him and explains she was the local star until someone learned about slump-busting. Charlie tries to restore her self-respect by offering to cook for her, complicated by his ex and daughter finding out and liking his 'for once normal' date. Worse are her expectations, which he keeps trying hard to refuse gently, even after his therapist Kate points out she's his stalker.
