Every year, there are always a few names who are in line for some awards glory after years of being the bridesmaids. Some of those names still haven’t had their moment, such as Glenn Close at the Oscars. But, this year, the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards could finally dish out some of those moments to some key names. We’re going to take a look at some of those names in just a tick but, first, a ground rule: we are only looking at people who have never won any type of SAG award, be that an individual gong or a Best Ensemble prize. There are some names this year who have won the latter but not the former, such as Bradley Cooper and Mark Ruffalo. We won’t be looking at those guys. Instead, we are looking at the pure SAG-free thespians. Here they are.

The Mediapro Studio will shoot from November Season 3 of “The Head,” its biggest international hit, filming in the Sahara Desert with John Lynch (“The Fall”) and Katharine O’Donnelly (“Mary Queen of Scots), attached once more to star.
Olivia Morris also returns to her role as Rachel Russo, the morally conscionable daughter of ambition-crazed biologist Arthur Wilde, played by Lynch.
“The Head” Season 1 took place at an Antarctic research station cut off in winter, Season 2 on a hulking freighter at mid-Pacific’s Point Nemo, the most distant place on earth from nearest land.
“The locations for this series have been a fundamental part of the show itself, always in an inaccessible place,” Laura Fernández Espeso, The Mediapro Studio CEO, told Variety before talking at a Mipcom Media Mastermind Keynote on Tuesday.

Saoirse Ronan's new movie Foe has received negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, ending her streak of positive critical hits. The movie currently has a critic score of 19% on the review aggregator, with an average score of 4.5 out of 10 based on the first 26 reviews. This marks a 10-year low for Ronan, whose previous movies have consistently received positive reviews, including the highly acclaimed Lady Bird and Little Women.
Saoirse Ronan has established herself as one of Hollywood's rising stars thanks to several major critical hits, but her new movie Foe snaps her Rotten Tomatoes streak. The 2023 movie is directed by Garth Davis (Lion) and sees Ronan star alongside fellow Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal for a mystery thriller based on a novel from a best-selling author. On paper, Foe was meant to be the next major hit for the actress. This assumption looked even more likely considering the years of success that...

Four-time Oscar nominee and indie darling Saoirse Ronan revealed in a recent Harper’s Bazaar UK interview that she’s keen to star in a comedy soon, referencing Paul Feig’s “Bridesmaids” and the Larry David-created sitcoms “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” as her favorite comedic projects.
“I would love to do something modern and funny,” Ronan said. “But to be able to do comedy well requires so much skill and musicality. I don’t necessarily think I have that yet — although as I’ve got older, I am more comfortable and confident to try.”
Ronan is best known for her dramatic roles, and has earned Academy Award nominations for “Atonement,” in which she plays the petulant and jealous younger sister to Keira Knightley; “Brooklyn,” which follows a young Irish immigrant navigating life in 1950s New York; “Lady Bird,” in which she stars as a headstrong teenager at odds with her mother; and finally,...

Before Margot Robbie was Barbie, she was Harley Quinn, Naomi Lapaglia, Tonya Harding, and many more characters. There's no doubt Robbie loves her job as an actor, and while tackling the role of an iconic children's toy wasn't initially on her career bucket list, it's clear she's happy she took a chance with the role.
A month before the highly anticipated July 2023 release of "Barbie," Robbie spoke to Vogue about how playing the role never even crossed her mind. "It wasn't that I ever wanted to play Barbie, or dreamt of being Barbie, or anything like that," she explained. "This is going to sound stupid, but I really didn't even think about playing Barbie until years into developing the project."
And while "Barbie" might arguably be Robbie's most hyped-up movie in her career so far, it's by no means the only role she's slayed. Take a look back at Robbie's best movies below.

The summer’s most anticipated comedy is Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. After her two box office misfires of 2022 — “Amsterdam” and “Babylon” — Robbie is on the cusp of her first critical darling and giant financial hit in a long while. Two of her acclaimed performances brought her Academy Award nominations in the previous decade, so with “Barbie” opening in theaters, let’s look back at Robbie’s two Oscar races.
Her first Oscar nomination came in 2018 in the Best Actress category for her performance as Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya.” Written by Steven Rogers and directed by Craig Gillespie, the film tells the true-life story of Harding’s rise in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and how everything came crashing down. Robbie had been received Oscar buzz for at least one of her movies before this — Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street,...

Period pieces are hard to come by because they require high budgets, studios willing to take risks, and every detail to be one hundred percent accurate and authentic. From exact locations to extravagant costumes, dialect training for actors, and props, pulling a period piece off on a shoestring budget is nearly impossible.
With the entertainment industry only starting to be more inclusive and take risks on female directors, only so many female-directed period pieces exist. Many great films come from great books which feature plenty of women leads. When men direct films about women, they tend to lack authenticity. As these movies show, given the opportunity, women directors make great movies and bring a refreshing perspective to the screen.

The cast of Conversations with Friends helped to bring the complex and fascinating Sally Rooney novel to life in a gripping 12-part Hulu miniseries. The story concerns two young college students from Dublin whose lives begin to intertwine with a married couple who has strong ties to the literary world. Mixing elements of romance and drama, Conversations with Friends offered a wide range of emotions that attempted to capture the complex narrative that played out in Rooney's book.
The release of the 2020 Sally Rooney adaptation Normal People proved to be a big hit for Hulu, and the streamer wasted little time in adapting the author's evocative debut novel in a similar fashion. Critics were mostly mixed about Conversations With Friends, with the performances and characters being praised and the overlong and meandering plot being picked apart. Saoirse Ronan revealed last September to People that she tried and failed to film a cameo in the upcoming “Barbie” movie, which is directed by her “Lady Bird” and “Little Women” filmmaker Greta Gerwig. It turns out Gerwig eyed even more “Barbie” cameos, including one that would’ve reunited her and Ronan with Timothée Chalamet. The Oscar nominee also appeared in both of Gerwig’s previous solo directorial features.
“Well, it was always going to have to be like a sort of smaller thing because she was actually producing at the time, which I am so proud of her for,” Gerwig recently told CinemaBlend of having to scrap Ronan’s cameo. “And of course, it’s brilliant. But it was going to be a specialty cameo. I was also going to do a specialty cameo with Timmy. Both of them couldn’t do it and I was so annoyed. But I love them so much.

Tudor, or not Tudor. That is the question in “Firebrand,” a revisionist royal portrait of Henry VIII’s last wife, Katherine Parr (played here by Alicia Vikander), that features all the pageantry you’d expect from a lavish costume drama, while showing the ahistorical audacity to call “Time’s Up” on the gluttonous king (Jude Law). Never mind that Henry VIII died — of very different causes than the movie depicts — all of 476 years ago. When it comes to art, there’s no statute of limitations on taking toxic masculinity to task, which can be both encouraging (since history has excused no shortage of monsters) and frustrating.
There’s a big difference between exposing the truth and rewriting what came before to suit a contemporary political agenda, the way “Firebrand” does. Liberally adapted from Elizabeth Fremantle’s fast-and-loose historical fiction “The Queen’s Gambit,” director Karim Aïnouz’s tony yet dull British...

The two best actor nominees — Clooney for The Descendants and Dujardin (who went on to win) for The Artist — became fast friends on the awards circuit, which included cozying up at the 2012 Oscar Nominees Luncheon. They would go on to work together on 2014’s The Monuments Men, and Clooney enlisted Dujardin for a 2022 Nespresso ad that continued the friendly rivalry they had established during the Oscar race. An honorary mention for a Clooney awards-partner-in-crime goes to Brad Pitt, a longtime Bff, also nominated for best actor that year for Moneyball.

Neil Forsyth’s The Gold is a true crime drama with a distinctive perspective. As much as it’s about the cat-and-mouse chase between the robbers of £26 million’s worth of gold bullion in November 1983, and the special task force trying to catch them, it’s also about the British class system. Over six episodes (airing weekly on BBC One and available as a box-set on BBC iPlayer), Forsyth tells a story about villains on both sides of the social divide and the entrenched systems protecting those at the top. His London is just as veined with establishment corruption, freemasonry and snobbery as it is with armed robbers, hooky fences and locals who keep their mouths shut for fear of reprisal.
The ensemble drama covers the period from the 1983 robbery, then the largest gold heist in British history, to the investigation and sentencing of select ring leaders. The story, as the newspapers show,...

The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo's most beloved video game series, and players have long hoped that it will one day get adapted into a live-action fantasy movie franchise. Although other gaming series have struggled to make the jump to live action, the expansive and immersive world of The Legend of Zelda makes it ideal for a movie series in a similar vein to The Lord of the Rings, as there are endless amounts of epic stories to explore. The characters in The Legend of Zelda are one of the series' most important aspects, though, meaning that the movie's casting needs to be perfect.
With the success of live-action video game movies like the Sonic the Hedgehog series, it may finally be time for a The Legend of Zelda adaptation to get its chance. Although The Legend of Zelda doesn't feature a continuous overarching story, each of...

Margot Robbie has said she didn’t know the definition of sexual harassment in the workplace before making “Bombshell”, Jay Roach’s 2019 drama following the women at Fox News who exposed CEO Roger Ailes for his misconduct.
The actor opened up about her career and experience of the film industry during a BAFTA Life in Pictures talk celebrating her career. At 32, she’s the youngest subject of the event series to date. Margot Robbie is excited for the future of her iconic character Harley Quinn.
In a new interview with MTV, the 32-year-old actress shared that she is “so happy” that other actresses will have the opportunity to fulfill the role of the delightfully deranged character, specifically Lady Gaga, who is rumoured to play Quinn next in the forthcoming “Joker: Folie à Deux”.
“It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor,” Robbie said. “And I feel like in not so many cases are they female characters.”

As the credits roll at the end of the season two premiere of "Bridgerton," you may notice a card dedicating the episode to the memory of Marc Pilcher. While you might not recognize his name right off the bat, Pilcher was instrumental in creating the vibrant visual world of "Bridgerton" and setting the tone we all know and love.

Eyes were on the Best Director category at the 91st Academy Awards after Greta Gerwig became only the fifth woman to be nominated in the said category the previous year. Contemporaneous articles expressed disappointment with this fact, but this Oscar year was also plagued with other issues: no ceremony host, plans to give out awards during commercial break, and divisive films like Green Book, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Vice being major factors, too.
In a way, these other controversies clouded what could have been a more extensive discussion regarding representation in the Best Director category. Out of the 347 films included in the Reminder List of Eligible Films in 2018 (91st Academy Awards), 62 of them (or 17.9%) were directed/co-directed by women.
Oscar-nominated Female-directed Films (in alphabetical order): Animal Behaviour*, Bao*, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Capernaum, Free Solo, Late Afternoon*, Marguerite*, Mary Queen of Scots,...

Marc Pilcher, the Emmy Award-winning hair and makeup designer for “Bridgerton,” has died of Covid-19, his agency Curtis Brown confirmed to Variety.
He was 53 years old.
The news comes just three weeks after the U.K.-based stylist — who was double vaccinated and had no underlying health conditions — picked up a Creative Emmy statuette in Los Angeles for his work on the Netflix series.
Pilcher took and tested negative on multiple Covid-19 tests to make the trip across the Atlantic and back again for the ceremony. Not long after his return he took ill and his condition deteriorated over the weekend. He died on Sunday.
As well as “Bridgerton,” Pilcher was known for his work across a variety of West End shows, television programs and films. In 2018 he was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on “Mary Queen of Scots” with Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie.

One thing Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews) didn’t seem to have in her 1800s societal gossip pamphlets is how the various men and women get their hair game on before heading to all those afternoon teas and fancy balls. Enter “Bridgerton” department head hairstylist Marc Pilcher, who received his first Emmy nomination for the Netflix series (following an Oscar nomination for the Saoirse Ronan-Margot Robbie drama “Mary Queen of Scots”) that captured lots of beating hearts and high-profile ratings over the 2020 Christmas season.
“I wasn’t expecting it to have such a huge reaction,” says Pilcher. “We knew that we were going for a new kind of audience, not necessarily going for the people who would watch ‘Downton Abbey,’ although I think the people who watched ‘Downton’ probably love ‘Bridgerton,’ we just wanted to do something new and different.”
And the new and different presents itself as genuinely multicultural period society,...
